If it were based on you choosing the auto gamepass would ntot exist and the devs would not be able to calculate the rarity of that sword dropping on a card because its entirely based on what card you picked. the cards are there for cosmetics or fun. it also promtoes you to gamble more because you think you were so close to getting a mythical just because it showed up.
