Very cool! I'm over 60, just got a fat tire bike last fall and equipped it with Old Man Mountain racks. Planning on my first bikepacking trip in a couple of weeks somewhere in the Mojave National Preserve. Nothing too strenuous, maybe a 25 mile out and back. Maybe next season, I'll venture into Death Valley NP. Much respect for your ability!
Mojave Preserve is a great place. It is on my list. Fat tire bikepacking in the desert is the only way. Have fun in Mojave, and I think 25 miles out and back is a great way to start!
Which features do you think I missed 🤔? I didn't capture everything on video. I get lazy quite frequently when it comes to documenting my trips. I'll do better.
@@feedfacedeadbeef There's something interesting every couple miles. Things like petroglyphs, shiny rocks and minerals, rock alignments, and various guerilla art installations. At th-cam.com/video/1sb51qA8eJE/w-d-xo.html , for example, that canyon on the right holds petroglyphs; you can see the dark band of rock they are found upon in your vid. Again, epic ride, no way I would've had extra energy for exploring much.
I can't believe I found this, we drove to the Racetrack on the 13th to photograph the Geminids meteor shower (we had a Closed Road CUA that gave us access) and we could see your tracks the whole way and wondered if we would run into this crazy desert rat 😀Looking back, I think you waved at us at the Grapevine ranger station, should have stopped and said hi!
"Hi!" - yeah The Racetrack road opened up for all a day or two after I finished. Frankly, a lot of it was nicely graded. I didn't understand why it was closed when I rode it. I was just hanging out at Grapevine. It was a low-mileage day for me to rest up a bit. Yeah, next time stop and say "hi". Cheers!
I can't believe it! I had almost the exact same route planned for this week. I had wanted to go a couple weeks ago but waited for my partner who couldn't get away then. So now I aborted due to the incoming storm. Oh well. Did you see the 'marble bath'? It would have been at about 9:47. Great adventure! Cheers from Every Adventure Is Worthwhile!
I saw the marble bath in March, 2022 when I rode up from the hot springs over Steel Pass. It's just a short detour off the main route. That was hard climb when the road existed. Now that the road gone (lower 7 miles or so) I decided to ride the route counter-clockwise. The funny thing is the first seven miles descending from Steel Pass is in better shape than when I had done it in 2022. I think the storm washed a lot of gravel down filling in the big divots / holes dug by all the 4wd jeeps. It's a great route, particularly counter-clockwise.
@@feedfacedeadbeef Don't mean to spam you here but did a nice 9 day trip through central NV. you might enjoy reading. I didn't do a video although I attempted to, haha! Subbed your channel too. its4pm.blogspot.com/2023/11/bikepacking-sagebrush-ripple-9-days-in.html
Hey, it looks like a great route. I will definitely do this route. I bookmarked your blog and I already had Kurstin's bikepackingnv.blog bookmarked. BTW, funny stuff, e.g.: "But fortunately for you, my readers, both of you, I will keep it short and...mostly truthful."

Epic trip, I'm in awe of those of you who do those roads on bike. Except you rode right by some of the best features of the park! Slow down, lol.

By the way, I know your channel - I'm a subscriber. I posted a question about water on your Hamilton Ghost Town video. Good stuff.
