Smart dude! More often than not, I'll use a Rat pedal style plugin on my vocals and I find it works a lot better than a "real" vocal distortion or saturation effect. The drive sounds nice and the Rat's filter helps with keeping the nasty top end in check.
From the stuff I've tried for this purpose, it seems like two separate instances of Essence is what I almost always end up with. Sometimes dynamic eq works too, but I love how smooth and even the vocals sound after Essence. - Vitaliy
@@bebopsamurai_music Hey faster for me and more clear is run two de-essers than muliband eq. Somehow Soothe doesn't speak to me - I feel often that he makes one thing better but somehow it destry the signal too much for me. Wojtek
Never even considered putting a de-esser on the low range. Really unique tip. Makes sense: it's just a compressor after all. Definitely going to try this on a future mix. Similarly, never considered an amp for vocal saturation. This series is an absolute treasure trove of great and interesting ideas!
This was an a excellent and helpful video. I love this one on one fix the mix approach. I learn so much from this approach. Hope to see more videos like this!
Awesome video! Definitely some interesting tips! For my taste, the vocal is still too loud relative to the instruments. It sounds totally separate from the rest of the mix.
To me the most stunning thing is how much better the guitars sound when you change to a different kick sample. Great video. What's the name of the band?
Thanks, we'll be making more of these! I just hope more people find and watch it. The two short sessions with Wojtek we've filmed so far completely changed the way I mix and helped me overcome barriers I'd been struggling with for years. So I really want to share this with everyone else. - Vitaliy

A de-esser is essentially a compressor that can be set to work very subtly only in a specific frequency range. Usually it's done in the upper range on vocals to tame the sibilants, but as Wojtek points out, it can be used to control any other frequency range providing a very smooth, natural-sounding result. So, that's what we're doing here, and it seems like it's working really well. - Vitaliy

id start by spending money on waves plugins, specifically those ‘turn a knob and voila’ ones. then id buy expensive outboard gear and make my studio look very nice. then im ready. every body will beg me to mix their track and i will be rich and start my own music label.
Big difference, my friends. The original mix borders with the desire to turn it off, but the professional mix draws the listener in. The quality of mixing matters more than I thought. Greetings from Ukraine.

Ha ha, .. Neural DSP on vocals? Never thought about this. Sounds really cool:)
Glad you like it. We're trying to show people that you can do whatever you want if it sounds good. There are no limits.
De-essing the low end is absolutely crazy but just works
Amazing 🤘
Thanks! Been using it in every mix since we shot this video, even for voice-overs - works like magic 😀

@@HertzDrums would you rather do two separate instances of de-essers or go with one multiband comp or even soothe to do two birds with one stone?
Learned this from Andrew Scheps, it just works. It's like the C4 trick that Andy Sneaps uses.

Thank you:) I will check your mix next week
That new kick cuts through so nicely when those fat guitar chugs come in. Well done!

I use de-esser very often - on bass, guitars, vocals, overheads. That the super tool for me:) Wojtek

I also like to use overdrive pedal plugins for vocals
Works really great too
Yeah, that's cool. Whatever sounds nice and adds harmonics is great
Very nice! Rocked it guys!
Thanks!
It's so funny when they mix the drums. 😂 But I gotta admit Hertz drums sounds so good.

Definite improvement. It feels like it is lacking something in the centre. Not sure if thats cause you have have widening on everything?
Thank you!
Hmm.. widening on the master bus is actually disabled in the final version. Maybe could've tweaked the balance some more...

Can u share your reaper layout? (Track layout)
Guitars are clipping in the fixed version, you can hear it bring the whole track down in volume temporarily.
Idk, I don't think I'm hearing that
