Many times I offered up my suffering for my parents' conversion. But then, to my surprise, God removed my suffering and healed me.

My husband was diagnosed with a very rare metastatic prostate cancer in May 2018. He had suffered kidney failure prior to the diagnosis of Cancer. He went through very strong chemotherapy and later, radiation, when the cancer had spread to the brain. He suffered through the seven months until his death. However we were given those seven months to be with our family: siblings, children; grandchildren; nieces and nephews and make wonderful memories that will last us forever.
My husband had Cancer but, …”in sickness and in health…”, I shared it with him. I was with him throughout all of his treatments and hospitalization.
I prayed to God that John would have a Peaceful Death. He would not be cured but I prayed that God would come to him, take the pain away and, bring him into His Eternal Kingdom. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🕊🛐🕊🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you, Fr. Chris, for this excellent video about suffering and healing. Your explanation about them was very enlightening. By the way, being a nephrology nurse, I see patients with end-stage renal disease everyday. So please be careful with your kidneys. Drink lots of water and decrease dairy and salty food intake. If nature calls, don't hold it in. Keep your blood pressure in check and take your bp meds if you have any. These are simple but very important advice that I can give and hopefully help anyone reading my comment. You're always in my prayers, Fr. Chris. May God continue to bless you.🙏

I was praying to God this morning when I woke, asking him to 'see' me and love me. My family is going through an awful time, my mother is practically bed ridden, my sister has M.E. and my brother, with intellectual disabilities is in hospital with cancer of bowel and liver, he's 48. My life centres around this as I rear my youngest daughter 15 alone, my friends are busy with their lives and I'm very lonely. My marriage is annulled and I'm with a man who really doesn't care for me very much. I was crying in bed asking God to give me strength but also doubting He was even listening to me. Then this popped up as I was getting breakfast ready. Thanks God, sorry for my lack of faith, 'I can do this'. God bless you all, 🙏 ❤️ love and prayers from Ireland 🇮🇪

Now that I'm older I have it for a few hours and I believe that I'm more in tune with with my Catholic..faith....wen I feel sick I pray and no that my KING JESUS will heal me. I'm not a worldly person.. please keep me in prayer.thank You FATHER....from across the world

As a former Protestant, the theology of suffering is one of the most beautiful aspects of Catholicism. I love that I can "make use of my pain" by offering it up. I first learned about this while I was depressed and being mistreated at work.

For reasons known to God alone, some are healed and some are not. That is where Faith and Trust enter. How many of us question why good people suffer physically and emotionally and they still maintain unflappable faith?
I am always in awe of the gifted and compassionate doctors, nurses and support staff who effect seemingly miraculous cures. It is my hope that they embrace that their ability to heal is a God given gift. For me, therein is the power of healing. It always comes from God.
When I experienced multiple hospitalisations several years ago, I did hear the expression “don’t let any suffering go to waste,” but I know I did not bring it to the same high level as Father Thelen.
For me, it comes back to ABC that I wish I knew then
ASK for God’s mercy in suffering.
BE merciful to the caregivers. (I was not a great patient)
    COMPLETELY trust in God’s mercy.
God bless you, Father Chris for this viewpoint on suffering and healing
Prayers always for your mom and dad.

Fr. Alar, thank you for inviting Fr. Thelen, reminded me of my own kidney problems the same pain and medication. All my life from age of 10, I have been seriously Il with lengthy hospitalizations. I have passed my 80th birthday. If it wasn’t for my mother’s deep devotion to our holy Mother and her daily church attendance asking Jesus to keep me alive, I would not be here to listen to your live streams. Bless you Fr. Chris for this opportunity, I am not alone.

Thank you for this important episode on suffering and healing, Fr Chris. I believe many people are eager to know and learn on how to handle it and to whom we should put our trust. Thanks to Fr. Mathias Thelen for sharing his extremely painful experience of his illness and Jesus’ miraculous way of entering into his interior life. It’s so moving and life-changing to anyone who hears him speak. Prayers for his continues healing ministry in the vineyard of the Lord. Thanks to Fr. Gabe and Fr. Joe for the readings from the Bible and St. Faustina’s diary that support the subject of suffering and healing. Fr. Chris, again my endless gratitude of your thoughtfulness and generosity for providing us spiritual food that increases our faith in God. Prayers for all of you and may the blessings of Gods be always upon you.

This episode reminds me of the song “Bring the rain” by Mercyme
The chorus of that song says:
“Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
    Jesus, bring the rain”

Thank you, Fr Chris, for another great EWTN show! The existence of suffering is one of the reasons there are atheists in our world today. They ask, “how could a loving and merciful God let this (fill-in-the-blank disaster) happen?”. Father Chris clearly answered this tough question in this episode. Once we can wrap our head around this concept, we can then live in peace, knowing our Lord loves us and is always with us. It is my prayer that all listeners can fully place their full trust in God and live a more peaceful life. God bless you, Fr Chris, and God bless all your listeners!

Father, where did the loss of my unborn child fit into God's plan? I'm struggling to understand and accept it. The fact that we were trying for a long time to have that babe made it harder for my ignorant and stupid brain to grasp. The countless tears and prayers that I said, begging everyone to pray for my poor child...God answered by allowing my miscarriage, and I found out that I have a health condition that might make fertility more challenging. Sometimes, God's plan is just way to grand for a stupid and depressed mind like mine to understand...

Dear Candice, my heart aches with you. I am so sorry to hear that and know that you're in our prayers. Yes, we will never understand it on this Earth but only after we get to heaven. But remember that precious child soul is in heaven right now interceding for you so now the fact is those prayers are so powerful that maybe that is what is going to help save you and your family through their precious intercession. Remember, God always brings a greater good out of even the worst evil.

Why does God make some people so sick they can’t participate in the sacraments?
I found God again through my suffering from a debilitating illness that keeps me homebound and unable to have people at my house. Now that I’ve found Him and surrendered, why am I still unable to participate? My heart aches to participate in mass and confession but I have no way of doing so. And of course i can’t be the only one who wonders this. I’m not mad at Him, just confused why He would make someone so sick that they can’t receive Him and be stuck in a state of mortal sin with no way out?
