I know, right? For being so poor (as I remember) I sure had a lot of these. Granted we did not get color TV until 1979, or an car with aircon until the mid 1990s ha ha 😎
I had a little over half of the toys shown here. Made me nostalgic and grateful to have had parents that tried so hard to get nice things for me even though we didn't have much money.
These really take me back to a simpler time . I remember most of these, and the feeling of wonderment that I felt upon first encounters...even where I was at the time....God, I miss being a kid !
I was born in the middle of the year of “ 72 .. didn’t recognize the comic book , I had a few of the items but the spoiled children I played with had all the other ones.
As an adult, or as the kids you were? I think what a lot of us miss is not the specific decade, but the innocence of youth, that time when we were not as burdened by the stresses of the world. No bills to pay, the news was just a dumb tv show for grownups, our bodies were still full of energy and growing. All we knew were toys. Everything was a potential toy. And I think even in the 70's the adults had plenty to stress about. It had it's pros and cons.
I remember a game from the 70s. It capitalized on the movie Jaws. It was a plastic shark with a hinged jaw that was filled with little plastic items that held the mouth of the shark open. The players then removed the items 1 at a time until the jaws snapped shut. Does anyone else remember that?
On the British comedy "Are You Being Served?" the toy department mentions a similar toy "Wibbly Wobblies" Was this a real British equivalent of "Weebles" or a fictitious brand name?

I remember getting Evel Knievel when I was in 1st grade. I took it to school and everyone wanted to play with it. Strech Armstrong was another fun toy I had too.
Those Evel Knievels were a huge toy in that time period! If you had one you were certainly cool! I never had the original stretch Armstrong but I did have the hulk one. Thank hou for watching William!

I always wondered what was inside Stretch Armstrong! I found our original Atari with the games and joysticks at my dad’s house before he moved! Thank you for bringing back such wonderful childhood memories!
I too still have my original atari 2600, games and controllers, plus I still have the nerf ball that came with those standing cardboard basketball hoops. Such good memories and time.
My cousin has two grandchildren, aged 3 and 5. Connect Four was one of their Christmas presents for 2020. I watched them play it just three days ago! Obviously, the 3 year-old didn't understand the game. He just liked putting the checker pieces into the grid. I had a great time watching the kids playing a game from my own childhood. A blast from the past!

My Atari is in my parents basement wrapped in plastic. In the 80’s me and my brothers spent hours on end fighting over who got to play Pac-man, Jungle Hunt(AKA Pitfall), asteroid, Star Trek....lol. Good times😎

I was born in 1967... so growing up as a kid in the 1970s was definitely my thing. I found it amazing that I actually owned about 80% of the things on this list (and recognized the rest). Oh, and PS, Evel Kneival crashed a lot more than once! He also appeared in an episode of the Bionic Woman! So 70s!
Yes he did crash q lot more. I really meant that to be after one particular crash. Im not even sure if he knew how many crashes he had. There were some great toys that came out of this decade.
Same here 1967 born myself. I remember Evel Knievel being on ABC's Wide World of Sports and yes he crashed a lot. As a note of painful history Evel broke almost every bone? Something really bad like that, I'll have to look and see, but he was beat up bad from some major crashes.

My Mom, "He tried to jump three!" My Dad, "YOU ARE A IDIOT!" Ah MEMORIES!! 😆🤣😂😹😆🤪🥴😸🙉 Even animals laughed at me!

Between me and my friends growing up in the 70’s, we played almost everything on this vid. Great job putting it together. Reminded me of some other favorites too like Tobor and Big Trak. Good ole days...
LOL! I still do, sort of. I collect die-cast cars like Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Auto World, Johnny Lightning, M2, and others. Myself and other people set up races, either off the peg cars, meaning brand new unopened, or cars that are loose. It's a blast, kids LOVE IT! We had a nice set up with 1st place getting 5 cars or 3 depending on the event. 2nd place got 3 or 2 cars again depends, and 3rd place got 1 car for each event. Or kids and adults could "bank" their winnings and use it for say a premium car(5-7 cars), or a Monster Jam Monster Truck(4 cars). Point is it was a blast, but now the pandemic has ended that, AND before that even scalpers here empty the cases before any kids or adult collectors even see them. They outnumber us 20-1. But it is what it is. Sadly. Merry Christmas!🎅🎄
Hey Rhett, my wife and I bought many of these for our kids in the 70's. I never conquered the Rubric cube, but really liked the Slime, we bought for our son. Merry Christmas my friend.
This is a large part of my childhood. Trouble game, perfection, the water games(had fishing, basketball ones), Mattel electronic football/baseball, Atari 2600. The handheld Mattel games were ahead of their time, cool games for sure and they still work to this day.

had a game called Toss Across. You had little colored bean bags that you used to toss onto a tic tac toe board that turned the block either to a circle or square depending how it landed.
I had every one of the toys at the beginning. The ones that “didn’t make it out of the 70s”. What great memories! Edit: we also had an ATARI. I didn’t realize how expensive they were. Thank you, Dad. 💕
We had one too, and by a stroke of luck, I ended up getting it. Good thing too, because neither of my both younger brothers would have taken any measures at all to see to it that it survived much more than a year or so. My eldest of them didn't even want it at all, and the youngest didn't even care, just because. He barely knew what it was and there were better games and consoles by the time he was old enough to even care about video games at all. I don't even remember if it went with me when I moved out on my own, or if it was maybe even several years later. Dad bought it as a family present for Christmas in either '79 or '80, and I never knew until just now how hard and how much overtime Dad would have had to put in to even begin to think about getting one. I would have understood, even back then at just 11 years old, and would've been extra, extra thankful to him for it.

You're right about that. I never had any broken bones but I did have a lot of bumps, bruises, scrapes and stitches in my head ones. I supposed now days it would have been a confusion too.
Who remembers the yellow metal Tonka dump truck that you used to put your knee in and push yourself around? Hot wheels race track, Big Wheels with the handbrake and Huffy BMX bikes with the banana seat? I could go on and on. What a time to be a kid. Miss it. This video brings back so many memories!

I was a Wonderful World of Waterfulls fanatic! I had the Ring-Toss, Baseball and the Basketball one. We had lots of fun with Water Weenies & small water guns. Also, I wanted the sand toy, Magic Window by Whamm-O. Kenner, Whamm-O, Mattel!
Did anyone own the Odyssey by Magnavox video game console? It was extremely expensive. We never got one. I only could afford, Intellivision video game after it was very old, also Sega Genesis and I just bought an old Wii 4 years ago.

OMG, this video was epic!!! I'm sitting here grinning from ear to ear -- I had just about ALL of these toys growing up!!! 👍👍👍👍👍 And, nope, I never could solve Rubik's Cube; I used to take it apart all the time! Looking back, I now realize it's kind'a funny that Rubik's CUBE was originally packaged in a ROUND container, LOL. Awesome video, Rhetty! SUPER collection of toys!!! 😂
I loved the Rubik's cube and it was fun to figit with. I tried to solve it but never could. I had two brothers and the only one that could was my oldest. He did it in just a couple minutes. We spent hours trying and even him trying to show us step by step. I had a lot of these toys but not all. Thank you for watching!
I could never do the cube and got so frustrated that I ended up peeling the stickers... it was a mess! but I could do the rubiks barrel in minutes and make so many of the shapes with the rubiks snake.
I couldn't solve it either. But I could take it apart and re-assemble it in record time. Turn on layer 45 degrees, use something as a lever to pop the middle edge piece, pull it apart, re-assemble in proper order, and that's it. Super easy mode.
This was great! Between my sister and me we had most of the toys shown in this video, which is kind of amazing to me because I never thought we had that many. I guess the ones we did get were the most popular. Something that I expected to see but did not was Lite Brite. My parents were afraid of it catching on fire, so we never got one, but I had friends who did and that one always amazed me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

This was my favorite decade for toys. I remember getting that Atari 2600. That joystick killed my hand but I spent literal hours playing Atari. I gave a Simon to my granddaughter last year. My son ( her father) couldn’t put it down. And perfection!
I knew about some of these but was busy working to keep my family fed and housed. Our kids were born early 70s so they got into some of these toys. I usually found out about them bare footed in the middle of the night. (Ouch). Thanks for the memories Rhett...Peace!!! Bill

I grew up in the 80s with Transformers and G.I Joe. But several of those (aside from the Robix Cube which is still sold today) I vaguely remember having. Since they were just before my time, they were most likely stuff my Grandma picked up at Yard Sales.
Ahhhhh the memories. I had nearly every one of these toys. What a great childhood I and my two brothers had. My dad actually broke his nose trying to put together our sit n spin. He put the handle on wrong and had to fight with it to get it off and when he finally did it came straight up on his face and broke his nose! Christmas Eve 1975
Who regrets selling their Atari in a garage sale back in the 90s?!?! Me!!!! 😫 I also remember selling my “Muppet puppets, Wonder Woman Barbie and Big Jim Camper”... but hey, I was 21 and too cool for this stuff anymore.. then EBAY came along and I sobbed. 🤭 these are all amazing memories from a kid born in 71.
I regret getting rid of my Atari along with the commodore 64 although neither ever made it to the 90s. We jumped the gun on that because many of these old toys are worth money besides just being plane fun!
No ball playing in the house! Love Weebles! Evel Kneevel crashed way more than once. When he did big jumps my Dad would call us in to watch him on the Wide World of Sports!
Much of what you mentioned is actually from other decades. They were so incredible that they carried over into other decades with their popularity. My sister and I had almost everyone of these. I would spend hours playing with my Micronauts. Another favorite of mine was called Big Trak. It was like a sci-fi tank you could program with a keypad on top to where you wanted it to go. My sister had Baby alive and baby burps. There was also a smash up derby with the same pull strip as the motorcycle one. I had both. Watching this video my mind for a split second is right there playing with them again. I was born in 1969 so I was the perfect age for all this stuff.

I remember getting my older brother the Rubiks Cube as a gag gift for Christmas in the early 80's with a little gold platted hammer as a "cube solver". My brother was up till 2am in the morning and my mom asked him did he solve it yet and I'll never forget his answer...."I want my hammer!!" with a child like whining in his voice even though he was in his late 40s at the time. So after that every Christmas, as a gag, we got any Rubiks puzzle we could find for him!!😁😁 Happy memories!!😁😁🎄🎄

Wow I had almost every toy on here. Even had the first gaming console Pong till Atari 2600 came out. My dad still owns the pong system. I just watched the 6 million dollar man yesterday!
I remember dissecting my Stretch Armstrong to see what was inside. I wanted a pet rock and my parents laughed at me. I also had a container of slime and I left the top off, it dried out and got hard. Those were the good old days.
"Action Garage" at the the end brought tears to my eyes. It's the earliest toy I can remember. Haven't seen it since I was a child. But when I saw a picture of it, I recognized it immediately. I loved this thing. You could drive the cars into the elevator, which would haul them to the second floor, which had a killer ramp. I loved that thing and I'd forgotten how much I loved it until I saw this picture. Ha. thanks for that.
I had a commodore 64 and loved it! I do not have that or the old Atari or original Nintendo. But my wife saved her original Atari and Nintendo. We need to try it and see if it works. I would love to show my kids how you loaded a game on the commodore 64. LOAD,8,1"*"
@@RhettyforHistory the old commodore was great in it's time. i actually used it for a while in business. writing my own programs to suit the needs. there were some pretty good games around for it too. i still also have both commodore and atari games.
@@RhettyforHistory I just fired up my c64 the other day for some retro gaming. I have about 150 games for it and the 1541 floppy drive. Satan's Hollow was one of my favorite shooters on the c64. So many good memories.
GI Joe came out in 1964 and Big Wheels came out in 1969 so I have them in the 1960s decade video even though they still remained popular for decades. Thank you for watching!
9:24 The tracer gun was such a blast. The discs would get lost with all of us playing with it. You could get replacement discs though. We did a version of hide and seek where the seeker had the disc gun and needed to shoot the hider before they got to homebase.
Those things were awesome! I think the brand name was Zebra. My friends and I figured out that you could shoot pennies out of them as well. LOL. At least the older ones could, later in the 80's they started putting weaker springs in them, and finally stopped selling them around 1990 or so.

During the seventies, the toys I most remember include Electronic football, Rock’em Sock’em robots, Atari, Perfection and Nerf footballs, but a regular football was essential for us kids back then.

I had the Mattel hand held race game and I can still remember how it was even now. When you got good you'd sort of anticipate/guess where to go next and if you F'd up you bit the dust, but if you got lucky you could do it in like 25 seconds or whatever the time was. I'd love to try that again just for kicks.
Born in 1960 I know we had the best toys ever! Waterfall Ring Toss, Connect Four, Trouble, Stretch Armstrong was my brother’s favorite and even the old Sit and Spin my Sister’s favorite and the Slime…. gosh what a great decade it was for us. We had the Atari 2600 and the games and it was such a blast! So if you don’t think you had a lot think again and remember to thank your Mom for making it all possible! But I wonder… does anyone remember Lincoln Logs, Barrel Full of Monkeys or even Klaidescopes? Where you can see colorful images by turning the tube.

I'm the "old man" of the 70's feedback...back in the 1970's, I was collecting items from the 1920-1960 period...and still love those 30 years of history and decor. Oh, yeah, I'm turning 79 this year.

I had both toys. Of the two Evil Knievel was my favorite. I poked a hole (on purpose) in my Stretch Armstrong and that was the end of that.
The Snake River Canyon jump... I was in elementary school and it was a sensation.

My cousin has two grandchildren, aged 3 and 5. Connect Four was one of their Christmas presents for 2020. I watched them play it just three days ago! Obviously, the 3 year-old didn't understand the game. He just liked putting the checker pieces into the grid. I had a great time watching the kids playing a game from my own childhood. A blast from the past!

My Atari is in my parents basement wrapped in plastic. In the 80’s me and my brothers spent hours on end fighting over who got to play Pac-man, Jungle Hunt(AKA Pitfall), asteroid, Star Trek....lol. Good times😎

I was born in 1967... so growing up as a kid in the 1970s was definitely my thing. I found it amazing that I actually owned about 80% of the things on this list (and recognized the rest). Oh, and PS, Evel Kneival crashed a lot more than once! He also appeared in an episode of the Bionic Woman! So 70s!
Yes he did crash q lot more. I really meant that to be after one particular crash. Im not even sure if he knew how many crashes he had. There were some great toys that came out of this decade.
Same here 1967 born myself. I remember Evel Knievel being on ABC's Wide World of Sports and yes he crashed a lot. As a note of painful history Evel broke almost every bone? Something really bad like that, I'll have to look and see, but he was beat up bad from some major crashes.

I remember watching him on ABC's Wild World 🌎 of Sports. His crashes were so brutal. The one where he hit the ramp and bounced up and over his handlebars was one of the scariest I saw. I loved his jumps, he was my Idol. I tried jumping garbage cans as a kid mimicking him. I jumped one ok, almost got two, but landed funny and slid on the gravel. Three cans? BAD MOVE! I barely cleared two, what was I thinking?🤔 I hit the 3rd can and HIT my back tire which launched me into my front tire, from there I face planted into the ground. Forehead was gashed, legs cut up, arm cut. BRAIN 🧠 INCONCLUSIVE (DUMB@$$!)! I wanted to be like my idol. My buddies were just lovin' my ignorance. You know what though, it's still a great memory! A painful memory, but still was so much idiotic fun!
My Mom....ANGRY! My Dad? Well he said, "If he was dumb enough to try and jump a garbage can he deserved to crash." My Mom, "He tried to jump three!" My Dad, "YOU ARE A IDIOT!" Ah MEMORIES!! 😆🤣😂😹😆🤪🥴😸🙉 Even animals laughed at me!

LOL! I still do, sort of. I collect die-cast cars like Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Auto World, Johnny Lightning, M2, and others. Myself and other people set up races, either off the peg cars, meaning brand new unopened, or cars that are loose. It's a blast, kids LOVE IT! We had a nice set up with 1st place getting 5 cars or 3 depending on the event. 2nd place got 3 or 2 cars again depends, and 3rd place got 1 car for each event. Or kids and adults could "bank" their winnings and use it for say a premium car(5-7 cars), or a Monster Jam Monster Truck(4 cars). Point is it was a blast, but now the pandemic has ended that, AND before that even scalpers here empty the cases before any kids or adult collectors even see them. They outnumber us 20-1. But it is what it is. Sadly. Merry Christmas!🎅🎄

We had one too, and by a stroke of luck, I ended up getting it. Good thing too, because neither of my both younger brothers would have taken any measures at all to see to it that it survived much more than a year or so. My eldest of them didn't even want it at all, and the youngest didn't even care, just because. He barely knew what it was and there were better games and consoles by the time he was old enough to even care about video games at all. I don't even remember if it went with me when I moved out on my own, or if it was maybe even several years later.
Dad bought it as a family present for Christmas in either '79 or '80, and I never knew until just now how hard and how much overtime Dad would have had to put in to even begin to think about getting one. I would have understood, even back then at just 11 years old, and would've been extra, extra thankful to him for it.

Some of them are big time collectors items so they would be good finds.
Who remembers the yellow metal Tonka dump truck that you used to put your knee in and push yourself around? Hot wheels race track, Big Wheels with the handbrake and Huffy BMX bikes with the banana seat? I could go on and on. What a time to be a kid. Miss it. This video brings back so many memories!

I loved the Rubik's cube and it was fun to figit with. I tried to solve it but never could. I had two brothers and the only one that could was my oldest. He did it in just a couple minutes. We spent hours trying and even him trying to show us step by step. I had a lot of these toys but not all. Thank you for watching!
I could never do the cube and got so frustrated that I ended up peeling the stickers... it was a mess! but I could do the rubiks barrel in minutes and make so many of the shapes with the rubiks snake.
I don't think I ever messed around with the rubies barrel. I did have the snake and that was a good figit toy!

I couldn't solve it either. But I could take it apart and re-assemble it in record time.
Turn on layer 45 degrees, use something as a lever to pop the middle edge piece, pull it apart, re-assemble in proper order, and that's it. Super easy mode.
This was great! Between my sister and me we had most of the toys shown in this video, which is kind of amazing to me because I never thought we had that many. I guess the ones we did get were the most popular. Something that I expected to see but did not was Lite Brite. My parents were afraid of it catching on fire, so we never got one, but I had friends who did and that one always amazed me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

This was my favorite decade for toys. I remember getting that Atari 2600. That joystick killed my hand but I spent literal hours playing Atari. I gave a Simon to my granddaughter last year. My son ( her father) couldn’t put it down. And perfection!

I grew up in the 80s with Transformers and G.I Joe. But several of those (aside from the Robix Cube which is still sold today) I vaguely remember having. Since they were just before my time, they were most likely stuff my Grandma picked up at Yard Sales.

Ahhhhh the memories. I had nearly every one of these toys. What a great childhood I and my two brothers had. My dad actually broke his nose trying to put together our sit n spin. He put the handle on wrong and had to fight with it to get it off and when he finally did it came straight up on his face and broke his nose! Christmas Eve 1975

Me!!!! 😫 I also remember selling my “Muppet puppets, Wonder Woman Barbie and Big Jim Camper”... but hey, I was 21 and too cool for this stuff anymore.. then EBAY came along and I sobbed. 🤭 these are all amazing memories from a kid born in 71.
I regret getting rid of my Atari along with the commodore 64 although neither ever made it to the 90s. We jumped the gun on that because many of these old toys are worth money besides just being plane fun!

Much of what you mentioned is actually from other decades. They were so incredible that they carried over into other decades with their popularity. My sister and I had almost everyone of these. I would spend hours playing with my Micronauts. Another favorite of mine was called Big Trak. It was like a sci-fi tank you could program with a keypad on top to where you wanted it to go. My sister had Baby alive and baby burps. There was also a smash up derby with the same pull strip as the motorcycle one. I had both. Watching this video my mind for a split second is right there playing with them again. I was born in 1969 so I was the perfect age for all this stuff.

I remember getting my older brother the Rubiks Cube as a gag gift for Christmas in the early 80's with a little gold platted hammer as a "cube solver".
My brother was up till 2am in the morning and my mom asked him did he solve it yet and I'll never forget his answer...."I want my hammer!!" with a child like whining in his voice even though he was in his late 40s at the time.
So after that every Christmas, as a gag, we got any Rubiks puzzle we could find for him!!😁😁

Pre-video push-button pocket games were such a big now-forgotten deal. As a kid in the 80s, we still had boxes of them around for many years.
Wow I had almost every toy on here. Even had the first gaming console Pong till Atari 2600 came out. My dad still owns the pong system. I just watched the 6 million dollar man yesterday!

I remember dissecting my Stretch Armstrong to see what was inside. I wanted a pet rock and my parents laughed at me. I also had a container of slime and I left the top off, it dried out and got hard. Those were the good old days.

"Action Garage" at the the end brought tears to my eyes. It's the earliest toy I can remember. Haven't seen it since I was a child. But when I saw a picture of it, I recognized it immediately. I loved this thing. You could drive the cars into the elevator, which would haul them to the second floor, which had a killer ramp. I loved that thing and I'd forgotten how much I loved it until I saw this picture. Ha. thanks for that.

I had a commodore 64 and loved it! I do not have that or the old Atari or original Nintendo. But my wife saved her original Atari and Nintendo. We need to try it and see if it works. I would love to show my kids how you loaded a game on the commodore 64. LOAD,8,1"*"

@@RhettyforHistory I just fired up my c64 the other day for some retro gaming. I have about 150 games for it and the 1541 floppy drive. Satan's Hollow was one of my favorite shooters on the c64. So many good memories.
Also popular during the 1970s was GI Joe with the kung fu grip, Big Wheels, color forms, and Super hero action figures.
GI Joe came out in 1964 and Big Wheels came out in 1969 so I have them in the 1960s decade video even though they still remained popular for decades. Thank you for watching!

The tracer gun was such a blast. The discs would get lost with all of us playing with it. You could get replacement discs though. We did a version of hide and seek where the seeker had the disc gun and needed to shoot the hider before they got to homebase.

Those things were awesome! I think the brand name was Zebra. My friends and I figured out that you could shoot pennies out of them as well. LOL. At least the older ones could, later in the 80's they started putting weaker springs in them, and finally stopped selling them around 1990 or so.
@@peterbelanger4094 I forgot about the pennies! We did the same thing. The springs were killer in the early models.

During the seventies, the toys I most remember include Electronic football, Rock’em Sock’em robots, Atari, Perfection and Nerf footballs, but a regular football was essential for us kids back then.

I had the Mattel hand held race game and I can still remember how it was even now. When you got good you'd sort of anticipate/guess where to go next and if you F'd up you bit the dust, but if you got lucky you could do it in like 25 seconds or whatever the time was. I'd love to try that again just for kicks.

Waterfall Ring Toss, Connect Four, Trouble, Stretch Armstrong was my brother’s favorite and even the old Sit and Spin my Sister’s favorite and the Slime…. gosh what a great decade it was for us. We had the Atari 2600 and the games and it was such a blast! So if you don’t think you had a lot think again and remember to thank your Mom for making it all possible! But I wonder… does anyone remember Lincoln Logs, Barrel Full of Monkeys or even Klaidescopes? Where you can see colorful images by turning the tube.
Awesome nostalgia right here. I had the Atari 2600, Rubik's Cube, and Simon Says. All super fun, but I remember the Simon Says taking a lot of big batteries haha.

In 1976 I had a doll "Pulsar". You would pump it's back and watch the heart, lungs and blood pump..

I'm the "old man" of the 70's feedback...back in the 1970's, I was collecting items from the 1920-1960 period...and still love those 30 years of history and decor. Oh, yeah, I'm turning 79 this year.
