Husqvarna’s Norden is the same as KTM’s 890 Adventure, but different. And arguably better.

The tourist pitch was spot on. Many of my favourite riding and driving roads are in the region. Luckily I live not too far away and get to visit fairly often. It’s even on route to the Alps so I get to enjoy good roads on the way to the mountains. 🙂

Lucky man, but don't tell the locals that these here hills aren't mountains, they'll be most upset. I've got so much more to explore in this region, I'm looking forward to having my own bike (very soon) rather than waiting form test bikes - more on that shortly.

Our pleasure Erwin, please keep tuning in because I'm going to start a new series of 'Great Biking Roads' where I share some of the amazing roads that I keep stumbling upon as we travel Europe looking for stories and bikes to test. I'm buying myself a bike so that I'm not reliant on test bikes, and as I happen upon a road worth making a visit to ride, I'll stop for a few days and make a video.
It may not have the wide appeal of an actual bike test, but I think some of you might enjoy sharing the travel aspect of my job. It might bring a new audience to us as well, which would be nice to see.

I agree completely with your views on the Auvergne. And just like the other mountain ranges that you mention, the Auvergne is even better for a summer bike tour because the temperatures don't get as crazy as they do at sea level. I'm just south of The Pyrenees, and I avoid riding during the middle of the day in summer, it just gets dangerously hot. By that, I mean that you get so hot, you end up not concentrating on the road conditions, just on getting out of the heat.

@@IgnitionBikeShow Agreed. Not sure I'd want your winters, though;).
Even so, I could probably be persuaded to live where you are just because the summers would be so good. And that coming from someone who left the UK because of the pain to the old bod when the weather turns cold (too many bike accidents cause everything to ache in the cold and damp).

To be fair, you'd be far more confident on the dirt roads if the bike wasn't fitted with street tyres. Even a set of Scorpion Rally St as fitted as standard to the Tenere 700 would have helped you destroy that climb.

I've been interested in the KTMs for quite a while, but never got along with the design. And aesthetics is important to me. So when KTM launched Husqvarna road bikes the problem was solved. My need for a big KTM thumper was happily satisfied by a 701 Svartpilen. For a second bike, I'd definitely get the Norden over the 890 Adventure.

My wife blushes and says thank you, and as for riding some of the custom creations I'll definitely work on it. It's sometimes difficult given the rarity and cost of each of those bikes, and the fact that I'm unknown to most of them, but I'll keep trying. I do have an open invitation with Radical Guzzi, a fantastic family operation, genuinely lovely people and I'm heading that way this summer (I owe him some beers!) so maybe I'll film a couple of his bikes.

Very kind comment Ozem, it looks like our passion for bikes is coming through, and that's all we can ask for, really. I'd say yes, the KTM will do you proud, but we do get more comments regarding KTM reliability issues than any other manufacturer on this channel. I know, via friends and acquaintances and professional relationships many, many KTM owners in South Africa - where the bikes tend to get a hard life - and I'd have to say that the overall feedback is extremely positive.
Are they perfect? No. Perhaps more importantly, should anything go wrong, is the back-up service from dealers good? The answer there (at least in SA) seems to be a resounding 'Yes'.

We've already had several 'trail' customers do 15,000km or so, with no off-road experience, and they've loved the adventure.
