      i still dont understand why are people thinking that AGA is some silly condition. I see these comments often. People please understand that AGA is very aggresive and very complicated condition that is why we only have 2 meds that work for it. Many have tried to develop something and they have failed because this is very hard condition to solve. I dont want to compare it with Cancer but in aggresivness they are up there. Ofc you wont die from it witch is good, but you might end with psychological problems.

    People really underestimate the other side of the argument, i.e. what are the consequences of going bald on fertility??
    Once you go bald, your effective fertility drops by 80-90% as you become massively undesirable to the opposite sex. What are you going to do with your unaltered testosterone when no woman will come close to you in the first place?? Life is all about tradeoffs.
    I went on a date with an 8/10 because I still have my hair and self-confidence, thanks to Finasteride. That wouldn't happen if I was bald, even if my testosterone levels were through the roof.

    The worst way to evaluate finasteride is thinking that taking it means being impotent and not taking it mean accepting being bald, like no aim for balance, doesn't have to be 1mg, but 0.25 to 0.5mg to 1mg, 3 to 5 times a week.

    It lowers fertility by 30%, but hopefully when you stop taking it, fertility recovers to your base levels. I also noticed that my voice lost it’s weight and is higher. I was a low baritone before, but now a high baritone. The voice overall sounds younger. Like I’m a teenager. The recent adverse effect is that I started to come faster after 2.5 years of taking it. Would probably start investigating during the next year. This last symptom is the most alarming to me.

    I love the content as always man !! I just wanted to hear your perspective on how finasteride increases total testosterone, but actually lowers free testosterone and how this could be associated with the side effects of finasteride in a small percentage of users (not the trash hormone DHT).

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks bruh. The majority of studies I have seen show that finasteride increases serum testosterone, including both bound and unbound free testosterone, the latter of which only makes up 1 to 2 percent of total testosterone in the body anyways.
      I don't think that is a casual factor in finasteride's side effects, especially since side effects are already so rare to begin with.
      The mechanism isn't known but I think the most plausible theory is the increase in total testosterone may cause aromatization into estrogen for some people.

    That thumbnail is hilarious. Personally, I'm not interested in having children at the moment so fertility isn't important to me but atleast now we know finasteride doesn't affect it so that's a bonus!
    Also Kevin, if you don't mind me asking, which of these two options do you think would give me the most consistent result:
    - 0.5 mg every other day
    - 1 mg thrice a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
    I want to cut down on the cost even more ever since I found out Proscar at Costco ($70) is over doubled the price of generic finasteride ($32).

      @@sanskar4539 Thanks for replying. Why are you taking both? I don't think that's a good idea. It could be the reason why you're shedding so much. • @sanskar4539
      @sanskar4539 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheSaltisReal okay so the reason is because my hair are hyper sensitive to dht and I’m just 19 and My hairline is receding since I was 14 or 15.So finasteride alone won’t do much as it blocks 70% dht but dutasteride blocks 90-98% or even in some cases 100% dht.And what I’m taking is a combination of both nd dutasteride just twice a week so to avoid side effects and get the maximum efficacy and dht blockage as dutasteride half life is really long compared to finasteride.So according to my doc it’s a good combination for me and it just costs me 4$ a month for the supply of both finasteride nd dutasteride.And shedding is just a phase of my haircycle too the hair will grow back thicker and in the long term my hair loss will stop and I’ll get good hair regrowth.I’m still shedding but i can see new hair even below 1cm to 2cm of my hairline temples.Some are thick hair some are thin and some are baby hair and it’s not even 5months.It takes minimum 6months to see result and maximum 1year in some cases even 2years so ig by 2023 I’ll get my final results and I’m happy with this treatment bro.Atleast I’ll have my hair.

      @@haircafekevin ok I watched it again and you talk about how there is pretty much no measurable finasteride in semen. but what I am unsure about is what determines the amount of dht/testosterone the baby has. like if you have high dht or say low testosterone, would that affect what the baby gets or is that determined just by genetics. It's kinda off topic but just something I've wondered about

    if one gets results on finasteride and returns to NW0, should he just stop taking it or will the benefits disappear with time as in minoxidil ? If he gets back to NW1 or NW2 will going back to finasteride again reverse it again ?

      Keep taking it, you stop taking it and you will lose hair in 6-8 months. However if u have a problem you can either reduce to the days you take the dose or maybe give a shot to topical fin.

      Yes, ethanol content should be high enough.

      @@haircafekevin have you seen the low oral minoxidil hair loss study? 1400 patients concluding it's safe. I think I might do it. Save my ass time from the topical.
