It's really sharp when stopped down on my EOS m100. Much sharper than ef 50mm 1.8. Mount is a little bit too tight. Sometimes when used against bright light, it does something weird with enchancing the contrast and pictures come magical just out of camera.
I’ve watched a handful of your TT artisan reviews. General consensus seems to be, shoot between F4 and F8 and it brings a lot of value to the table for the cost. Great reviews! Quick, simple and technical. Perfect for my tastes. Thank you!
His reviews are basically for pixel peepers who want sharpness and perfection across the board. These lenses don't do that, it has its own character and charm that makes it great.
I've had this for almost 6 months now and I love it! Sharpness is not everything for me, I have other glass for sharpness. But this thing has a lot of character and it's a steal for the price! In fact, this made me go all in with TTArtisan buying all their APS-C lenses for my Nikon Z fc which would otherwise be restricted to 3 pieces of dark zooms from Nikon.
Paired with a Fujifilm X-E1 and its 16MP sensor the lens is a very good match as it provides vintage like character without vintage flaws. The main issue that I've noticed is in close-ups where there is visible longitudinal aberration. High contrast areas in front of the focal plane have a magenta fringe, areas behind a cyan fringe. This is no longer discernible at distances greater than 1m so it barely matters.
I used this lens on a Fuji Xt1 I bought in kit. I sold it since but I regret doing so. It was an awesome lens to use, with great mechanical quality, and very nice rendering for portraits. Technically far from perfect, as shown in this review, but the results are lovely.
I still have it on my X-T1 as my EDC (Everyday Camera) and it's such an enjoyable process to document daily life with it. One moment you're documenting streets/random things next thing you know you're at F1.4 for a portrait and it got its own character indeed.
In terms of VALUE it gets 10 out 10. I've got some vintage lenses that cost me more and have worse performance, which out of some nostalgia, people don't mind in old lenses and refer to it not as a flaw but as a "character feature" these days. At the price TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 model is offered, there is nothing to complain about.
YT testers usually test lens prices and you're no exception. Whenever I see you testing a 800$ Voigtlander or a Leica with VERY similar performance to this little 80$ guy, you just have praises. Considering you're one of the good reviewers out there, somebody looking for serious lens advice has a really hard life.
I have this Lens exactly 8 days before xmas last year, really like it much. Haptics, optics, fine for so little money (paid new 58 EUR into 2021) Matching lens hood from TTA costs a few bucks. It's only that ~53mm (x1.52) on APS-C are not my fave focal length. Chris, the TTA Lens hood is 100% pure metal - not plastic. It costs separately bought 6 to 8 EUR.
Hi Christopher, I compared your review of this lens and the XF35 f1.4 and noticed the color produced by these two lenses differ greatly, with the Fuji being much more saturated(at 2:46 here and 2:10 in the XF35 f1.4 review respectively). Is it because of the different lighting condition for different review videos, Fuji XT2 vs XT3, or is it the result of the lenses themselves?
Love your reviews! Especially the way you structure them, allways know where and when I can get the information I value more. Any chance of getting a review from 7artisans 35 1.4 aps-c ( also named 35 1.4 II )?
• Anyone whos purchasing or purchased ttartisans 35mm f1.4- it has a 39mm filter thread & if wanting to use filters on front of Lens & you already have filters but larger sized ones, just buy some 'filter step-up rings'..for example: 39-52mm, this may save you money, rather than buying same filter/filters in a 39mm size too. Enjoy! 👍
Focuses past Infinity. It's not a complaint because it is so inexpensive, but I wish the lens did not go past the Infinity mark. I might have a bad habit of just going to the stop and expecting to be at Infinity. Everything else about this lens is fantastic. I bought the silver one. I also see that the voigtlander 23mm and 35mm lenses have the same issue. I would be angry if I bought a $700 lens with this issue. Chris love your reviews keep them coming and thank you for everything.
you can calibrate focus by focusing at infinity then loosening the screw at focus ring and turn the focus ring at correct mark before thightening it back
Hi Christopher, I hope you can review the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.2 X for Fuji. Really interested in this lens for my X-Pro3, and not many reviews out there. Thanks!
Impressive little lens. Actually better than the vintage Pentax lenses you can find for 50ish bucks. Although those definitely have a certain charm as well. Would definitely pick on up if I didn't have a host of old Pentax lenses 😅
I have this lens and honestly it looked sharp on my version even sharper than the fuji expensive kitlens, i enjoyed using this lens specially with the bad fuji focus , starting at f4 real world images looks very sharp .
"Bad Fuji focus"? What camera are you using? The Fuji xt3 or xt4, with the latest firmware updates, havem pretty decent focus, just slightly behind Sony cameras in the same price range. In certain situations, when paired with new lenses, even better than Sony and close to Canon's dual pixel autofocus. From what I heard, the new generation of x mount cameras are significantly better and will only improve with future updates.
Looks like a great street photography lens, to be honest. You'd probably have to stop down to at least f5.6 for manual focus street photography anyway. Shoot by estimating your distance from your subject.
the lens quality varies by copy... and mine seems like the optics doesn't put in a perfect straight line, so some parts of the image can have lighter or darker vignette. i already have it for two years... if you have this lens, keep it inside a plastic bag that was sealed or in a nice drybox... it can caught some fungus pretty easily.
Hey Christopher. I have one of these lenses for my Canon M-mount bodies (M10, M6, M100), but it doesn’t work, because apparently it requires some specific firmware from TTArtisan. I’ve searched all over the internet, no luck. I’ve contacted both TTArtisan and Canon, no response from either. Do you have any idea where I can find this firmware?
It doesn't need a firmware, it's just a metal meets metal. No electricity happened between them. Just like every manual lenses, set your camera to shoot without lens..
Can someone give a list of 5 manual Chinese lenses (apsc and sub 200 eur) that are considered good? It seems like ttartisan 50mm f1.2 is considered a good one.
hi, I got this lens for XT30-II but when I put this on my cam, and try to take images it doesn't do anything and the cam doesn't take photos. I think I have to make some setting changes, can anyone help, i. am new to this cam n lense as well
This lens has character that is worth more than its asking price. Fantastic real world performance vs nitpicking that nobody really does.

This one is ugly, have the 50 f1. 2 for fuji and like it a lot, thinking the 23 also
@@SJ-eu7em the 23 is hot trash but i agree that the 50 1.2 is amazing.
If you were one of those types with your own "merch" i'm sure you'd have a t-shirt that said "Due to the effects of diffraction".
I'll buy one
Should have "Howdy everyone" with the logo.
“Hi. It’s me”.
Pretty sharp in the middle

Its called lens snobbery , our good pastor has it in abundance

It would be awesome if you get the chance to test the new fujifilm 150-600mm lens! I would love to see how sharp it is on the fuji aps-c sensor

I paid 30 dollars for a used one. Wide open is acceptable. Stopped down very sharp. Color is natural.
the bokeh seems quite pleasing

That zoom in on John 1 in Greek was nice brother! ;)

I’d really like to see how the slower DSLR version of the Tamron 35-150/2.8-4 compares to the new wunder lens the faster Tamron 35-150/2-2.8

I just got mine last weekend and I'm surprised with the quality and how close it can focus
If you want to be surprised, check out the TTArty 11/2.8 fisheye. Quite sharp across the frame even wide open, at a distance.

Please review the full frame lens version of this
Which is better compared to the Meike 35mm f1.4?
i would like to have Af version of this lens . great lens
Do you prefer this or the Meike 35mm 1.4 or 1.7?
39mm front filter threads are not unusual, a lot of Leica M lenses (old and new) use that size.
1:47 also changes distortion when zooming in??
I enjoyed the review even though I don't have a mirrorless camera. Do you study ancient Greek? Nice!
is this a soft focus lens?
i think i'll just buy a canon fd 50 1.4 instead.
I keep involuntarily moving the aperture ring along with the focus ring
PLease Test the 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 and 25mm f1.4. I believe they are better than the TTArtisan lenses.
Can you do one for 7artisan 35mm f1.4 apsc too?

Just like every manual lenses, set your camera to shoot without lens..
That is a nice lens, but I feel the 17mm 1.4 is the TTArtisan sweet spot for Fujifilm..
haha, I just bought it last week. Not bad, high cost-effective.
I have a no brand name 35mm f1.6 lens. I wonder if it is the same knock off.
I Friend i'm from belgium , i buy this with caméra. Whitout the screw-on. Where Can i buy 😢
Try TTArtisans 50mm f1.2
Chris, please test 50 1,2 from them!
Mine didn't come with a lens hood. Bought it for $45 equivalent
I liked this lens so far...the only downside is this 39mm thread...it's not comom to match filters in this size...
Could you review pergear 35mm f1.2 please?
Flaring is the only real problem with this lens. For $75, I'm amazed.
Can someone give a list of 5 manual Chinese lenses (apsc and sub 200 eur) that are considered good? It seems like ttartisan 50mm f1.2 is considered a good one.
What's the link for the lens hood ?
İs it do it for apsc so is 35mm is converting yo apsc or it became 50mm?
So on apsc it will be 50mm ?
AF 35mm is out now Gonna test it?
Suggest artisans lens for canon 700d
What a gatekeeper lens for under $100. Not to shabby actually.
wow, relatively amazing for
Seems like a decent enough lens at f2.8 and tighter, to hold me over until I can drop more cash on a good zoom lens.
Not bad for the low price
Thanks Chris! Because it is a APC-S lens, it is really a 52 equivalent lens.
...depends on the camera crop multiplier. lens is still 35mm.
Nice review as usual, but background music is too loud and annoying.
hi, I got this lens for XT30-II but when I put this on my cam, and try to take images it doesn't do anything and the cam doesn't take photos. I think I have to make some setting changes, can anyone help, i. am new to this cam n lense as well
i have same issues
@@haz7461 just go to setting, there is an option that says Shoot Without Lene, put it ON, ans ENJOY😊
I'm planning to buy it, how is it?
I have the 50mm APS-C version and I love it. I wish it was sharper and I have the weird feeling it is darker than my XC35mm
Thanks
Thanks for your support!
Does it have thread for filter
Great review as always. 👍
I'd rather save a little bit and get a used copy of the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN for around 200€
A lens thats affordable on this channel. Chris you're slipping. 😆
It looks a little like a jupiter 8
Just ordered one for 60$
whenever i hear "bokeh" i start to vomit
the real question here is; 35mm 7artisans 1.2 or 35mm ttartisan 1.4?
