Learn how to successfully shoot with side spin, with ANY cue. Shots performed in vid with: JFlowers SMO shaft and Legends cue jflowerscues.c... & Wood Cue: Lucasi Hybrid
Hello Al, really appreciate your videos. At eight minutes and one second you mentioned you’ve made a video about. HOSS. i’m trying to find that video that you’re referring to. Do you mind putting a link in the comments for that video?
Thank you! Very informative, but is there another video to explain the cue alignment? Are you using front hand or back hand English, or are paralleling the whole cue equally to the English applied? Sorry, new subscriber long time player....
Great question. Yes, Front hand English. Which essentially is paralleling the whole cue to the English applied. However, when doing this, you should already build your shooting line (feet alignment) before you even get down in the shot. You should not have to move your front hand when down in shot, you should fall right down into your shooting line, including the English you are applying, otherwise the entire stroke will be slightly out of alignment. 😁
I did say in the first minute that there are many factors and no specific recipe. Cue, tip, stroke, cloth, and balls ALL make a difference. (as I said in the vid) I find cue to be the largest factor, but I outline how to make the shots with any cue/tip by making the proper adjustments. 😁 You absolutely could take the tip off, but leather seems to grip the ball a little better than plastic. But, I could still make these shots with a phenolic break tip...no problem. 😁
Al, this has been one of the most informative videos i have seen on Spin,,,, your examples were so simple even i could get a grasp of what really goes on with the physics of the shots.... Thanks again for your straight forward approach to playing this great game.... Vince
YOOOOOOOOO i wish You were in Akron Ohio 😂 whenever i talk about every table, cue balls, and felt on the table is different and its all about making Your adjustments (if You can make them in time) then alot of MFs say im over thinking 😂
Hello AI... on the shots you made here, how did you apply the english? BHE, FHE, etc.. or you were already in the position on where to apply the english when you were going down for the shot? Thanks
Like the video Al,what if you have a object ball on the rail close to either pocket corner of course is there a way to aim on those instead of just trying to skin the ball in.
Took me 18 years to understand this but yeah you are 💯 right but the speed in the center of your shooting line to the butt of your cue is also important
At 18:32 i demonstrated that force follow shot to My friends friend because He kept teaching and talking but wouldn't play for money or He wouldn't demonstrate what i did or what You did in this video, but thanks alot for making this video
Because 80-90% of viewers watch on their phones in portrait/vertical mode. Also, easier to get the person talking in the video, as we humans usually stand vertical. 😁
Any tips for tournament play where you are playing on an unknown table? Some quick way to test the effect of felt (worn or brand new) and mentally adjust?
Great question. Yes, I start by doing some 3 Rail Kick rotations. Some easy masse shots. Then some inside and outside spin shots, like in this vid. That gives a guy a decent feel.
Thank you for your videos. They are helping me regain my ability after a 20 year sabatical!
First time hearing H.O.S.S. Acronym. Wow that helps me a lot. Awesome video!
Something I came up with to help players remember the concept. 😁
Glad it helps.
Love your lessons Big Al!
Probably the best and most complete explanation I've heard in years. Thanks
good explanation...
Thank you Al Great Video Can you do a video on Side to Side Bank Shots up an Down the Table with Q Ball not lined up perfectly with Object Ball

I believe it was on Facebook, but I cover it better on this vid anyway. 😁

What tip do you use with it? The medium / hard they have by default or did you switch it?

If it’s is the cue that makes the difference and not the tip why not just take the tip off

Thanks for taking the time to explain and demonstrate. I'll need to watch a couple times and try the shots myself.

Front hand for sure.
I seldom use back hand, other than a bit of controled "steer" on certain shots.

I cover those kind of shots in this vid.

Can you explain this a little more please?

Good video but why oh why did you film it vertical?
Honestly though, this is the best explanation I've ever heard of this phenomenon.
Because 80-90% of viewers watch on their phones in portrait/vertical mode.
