Goynuk Bolu Vlog | Cittaslow Titled Slow City | An Ottoman City of Culture

Hello, on this trip, we discovered for you the district of Göynük, known for its streets with a wonderful historical texture, houses with bay windows and natural beauties. Goynuk, three hours from Istanbul, three hours from Ankara, and five and a half hours from Izmir, is a charming district with a deep-rooted history. Its historical ruins date back to B.C. It dates back to 5000 BC and is a region where deep-rooted civilizations such as the Phrygians, Hittites and Bithynians ruled.
Goynuk was conquered by Osman Gazi in 1323, and during the reign of Orhan Gazi in 1333, Goynuk was completely included in Turkish sovereignty with the settlement of Turkmens. The Mosque and Baths built by Orhan Gazi's son Süleyman Pasha in the district are quite remarkable and must-see works.
One of the most important features of Göynük district is that it has the title of Citte Slow. It is another source of pride that this title, which is available in thirty countries around the world, is given to Göynük district. Citte Slow is the title given to quiet cities and there are eighteen members with this title in Turkey.
Finally, one of the best things you can do in Gönük is to go up to the Clock Tower Victory Monument and watch the beautiful view of Gönük. It was built by the district governor of the time, Hurşit Bey, in 1922, in memory of the Battle of Sakarya. The tower, which was destroyed by fire several times, was restored and became a wonderful work of art that has been brought to tourism.
