One day we're gonna reminisce about the Saddledome just as we did about the Joe, Mellon, Aud, and any of the Garden[s]. Enjoy the Saddledome while we still got it!
@@_TheRinks Calgary's getting a new arena. It's currently scheduled to be completed in 2024. At the moment the Saddledome is planned to be demolished once the new arena is complete.
sorry if I am too late intro the series. despite its age, the feature that I actually like is the initial inside of the arena that also supports international-sized ice rink (which is 60 meters by 30 meters, or 196.9 feet by 98.4 feet). I think other future NHL arenas should also be more flexible and versatile, making them also able to accommodate international/IIHF/Olympics rink. who knows, maybe the IIHF World Championships could ever go again to Canada and the U.S. in the future and, instead of them conforming to NHL rinks, require the arenas to use international rinks.
I've spent many, many hours in the Saddledome. One secret I wanna share: if you're desperate to go to the bathroom and there's lineups, on each end of the main concourse, look for a bathroom with one door per gender. They are about three times the size of the others.
I still remember when the Olympics were held there. That’s where the “Battle of the Brians” took place between men’s figure skaters Brian Boitano from the United States and Brian Orser of Canada.
Man I love this series, my Mondays are alot better now that I have something to look forward to, keep up the good work. 👍 Now I just gotta wait until you get to my favorite team The New Jersey Devils 😈
The lower bowl used to be much deeper prior to the renovation in the 90's which added a suite level below the main concourse. You can see the original depth of the lower bowl at one end of the rink where the stage goes during concerts. The main concourse would be expensive if not impossible to expand because the outer wall of the concourse holds up the roof.
Yeah I mean the only way to expand is to expand outside the existing walls. But doesn't matter anymore since the new arena has been approved. What would love to see in the new building?
@@_TheRinks I'd like an area honoring the history of the team. Something with statues of players like Lanny or Iggy. It looks like there's going to be street retail attached to the new arena along Olympic Way so I'd like to see a team store that can be accessed from the street when there isn't any event going on. Every July the Calgary Stampede has unique food offerings (last year they had Bacon Onion Rings on a Stick, Granny's Apple Pie Smoothie, Deep-fried Twizzlers, etc) I'd like to see some of the more popular foods stay for the following NHL season. Reuse the name Corral (Example Scotiabank Corral, Westjet Corral, etc) it would be a great way of honoring the history of the old building and the name fits the City.
@@MrZics All great ideas! The have a survey going on right now: www.calgarymlc.ca/ecengage Yeah Statues would be cool. Usually they coincide with jersey retiring or Hall of fame introductions. I'm not a Flames fan but I would think a cool statue of Theo Fluery Knee sliding would be awesome! What about in game stuff? How can you take the enmax flames and make them bigger or more effective?
The upper bowl is really dumb I love in Edmonton and I went for the 2012 world juniors final game and I was sitting at the very top on the one side and it is sad up there you can't even see the score board to the point where they have two big screens up there in front of you so you can see closer
I still want the saddledome to exist, but in its majorly-renovated version, similar to that of Madison Square Garden (MSG was renovated twice, in 1991 and in 2013). the only feature that I still want the saddledome to keep is the ability to also support international-sized ice rink, which is 60 meters by 30 meters (196.9 feet by 98.4 feet).

marble cake yup this episode was actually a lot of fun to put together. Maybe one day Calgary will get a new rink...one day

i know Im pretty off topic but do anybody know of a good site to watch newly released movies online?
@@MrZics Almost '24 & the arena situation is still in limbo!!
If they ever do build a new rink in Calgary, it needs to have the same design, it's WAY too iconic.

I live in Calgary. It’s a great atmosphere to see the NHL. I highly recommend it 😊

bro the Rock is a beauty, very underrated rink imo
Thanks for the comment! Feel free to spread the word! Yes I’ll get to Jersey eventually! They do have a nice facility!
we love the scotiabank crumbledome 😇
Keep up man. You will hit 1 million subscribers one day.
Thanks for the kind words! Thanks for watching and tell your friends! Haha
Though the arena is dated, it looks like a pretty intimidating place for visiting teams. Very claustrophobic.
Cool series, very interesting.
Thanks! Tell some friends! haha

Smitty Plays yup! You almost need a Sherpa to get up there!
i think well still have the saddle dome by 2028 if we don't get started on building the stadium

I never knew the whole upper deck has blue seats
nic 326 Yup! Also weird was that Back when it was known as Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, it had red seats! 🤷🏻♂️
