Our culture and tradition will forever remain. Its good that a prominent Kenyan pastor leads by example, to show that despite of being a serious christian he believes in his peoples culture. ''Wega umaga na mucie''
Wow! What a rich culture! Keep it up and may it last and last. This should be passed on to the young generation. What is most shocking are those who are disliking this solemn custom.
Am a kikuyu and i must admit and there is no way i can claim to be a mkamba or Maasai. people have different zcultures that some integrate harmoniously with CHRISTIANITY while others bring confusion and that is why WE SHOULD ALWAYS PRAY and ask QUESTIONS on the way forward. For instance you cant just take a wife and take her to church and claim that you wont PAY DOWRY because you are saved .However i think it is in order to honour the PROCESS without youself taking part . i have listened to BISHOP JJ teachings and He is full of WISDOM and revelations that you will hardly hear them anywhere else. He has enboldend me to focus on GOD and to be a man . However i wish to ask him to KINDLY TEACH US MORE about what we ought to KEEP and what we ought to THROW AWAY from this traditions.
This looks good despite am from Luo community i dont understand Ngurario someone please comb me,what is it n why is it done....its enjoyable by the look of it
It is the Gikùyù (Kikuyu) traditional wedding When they cut the kiande (shoulder) is the same as vows. Basically, the man "cuts" a part of himself and gives it to the woman. This signifies that she is now a part of him and cannot be whole apart. There are also different parts of the meat for different groups eg. Men, women etc
Badilisha Jina kwanza, itua Kinyago Muchiri, Remove Florence it has nothing to do with Kikuyu ama uitue Gakonyo, Gitathuro, Kinyori , Wamanyau ,those are the Kikuyus names. Is it culture or religion, which is which?.
Paying of dowry is biblical...nothing to do with your Catholic...Anglican..or whatever church you attend....this is a tradition for all descendants of Abraham.
Mwacha Mila NI mtumwa..so true..now that we are broader in mind and spirit, I don't think we need to carry along all cultural aspects such as 'ugo' (witchcraft). We need to be carefully so that we don't forward the aspects we know to be harmful to the coming generations.
