Should try what I did 42 years ago, hop onboard an empty car while stopped in North Adams, ride thru the entire tunnel (scary!), then hop off as it finally started slowing down coming into the next town! Had to hitchhike back to North Adams. Ah yes, the 'good ole days'!

Trains go through there everyday don't no why it took 32 years for u to see it I saw the train every day for 20 years going through there

I recall as a kid in '72 camping nearby and hiking to this tunnel, i remember being afraid to look inside
Wow, first train in 32 years!? Looks like you got a good first train though the Hoosac, the leader being an ex-Conrail dash 8 with a really nice RS3L!
