It’s hard to explain it, but Ryu players just come off way more humble than Ken players. Maybe it’s cause their character is slower and they actually have to play better neutral and actually be patient but they just have a different air to them
Agree with buddy above me ^ but I’d say it’s more so that Ken is meant to be very aggressive which comes off as cocky with the pressure they put on you. While Ryu is meant to be more patient and precise but with power. So while you aren’t getting combod as much you are taking big damage, add in Ryu can compete with zoners he doesn’t have to be as aggressive. I main Ken and I’m not cocky but confident bc I have to be able to adjust so often with these other characters, I can’t just always be aggressive like I want to be. Compared to characters that don’t really have to make adjustments bc they are able to force a certain play style based on the move set. Ex: Samus, Ness, every Link, the list goes on and on lol

Perhaps he was getting burnt out (I heard Gen8 had a lot of contestants), or perhaps it's harder for him to stay composed when against a player of Esam's caliber, or perhaps it's just Pikachu is that difficult?
