    An interesting title and very important for international students, I'm searching for about one year, ie: I'm a 12-Grade student.

    Hi! If we do get a mentor, do they provide a lab or do you have to find one yourself? Also, How do you come up with an in-depth research question? Like If I wanted to do research on the heart, how could i go from the broad topic of "heart" to "correlation if heart activity in time intervals on post cardiac arrest with a cpr or defibrillator." Like, how am I supposed to come up with that detailed research title?

      Hi! A professor would have their own lab or funding if you work with them on their research project. If they're working with you as an advisor to your own research, you'd have to find your own resources (which could be easy or difficult, depending on the research and the college).

      As for finding a good question, that usually comes with learning. If you're interested in the heart, your curiosity will drive your readings until you come across a question like "how does that work?" which isn't immediately answered in your books. If you can't find an answer elsewhere, that might be what we call a "gap in the literature," which is a great place to start a research project.
      Most colleges will have some classes to guide you along this process until you're able to recognize a strong topic on your own. Your research question also doesn't have to be some previously undiscovered thing: you can write a great thesis just by reinterpreting old research and improving on existing scholarship. The question itself will change and evolve as you progress in your research, and you might end up with something totally different than what you set out with.
      So in short, finding a good research topic is something that happens naturally by reading and following your own interests. Hope that helps!

    Can I conduct research even if I'm an international high school student? Isn't it necessary to be in person and work in a lab with your mentor?

    Hey! What do you think of doing research during the school year?

    • @CollegeVine
      @CollegeVine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! That could work, you would just find fewer programs offered to high schoolers and have a tougher time balancing it with schoolwork. But if you're doing a self-driven project it's totally feasible!

      Don't worry! Most of this information still applies to college - in fact, it should be much easier to find opportunities than in high school. Doing research in college can help you get into jobs and grad schools down the line, so it's definitely still worth pursuing.
