    A neat variation is to use the part info table from the A2+ workbench. If you put the parameters in this spreadsheet you can also calculate the price of the item depending on the length and if you use it multiple times in an assembly the costs are automatically calculated.

    Mind blown, that is so helpful, this will save so much time. If it wasn't for your tutorials I wouldn't be able to use any CAD software. Cheers.

    You can use imperial units in a spreadsheet if you specify the unit (E.g. 1in or 1"). What's a bit weird is that if your display units are set to metric, the cell will display the metric equivalent, in the same way that a cell containing an equation will show the result of the equation.

    You have the gift of producing videos adapted to concrete action, very practical, and which facilitate success through your experience.
    In short, you offer us very (PRAGMATIC) videos. I quite like that.

    In lockdown i made a fastener DB for every fastener / nut / washer / circlip / pin that i've every used and many hundreds of newer head styles so far not used. Each has a unique load point and not matter what orientation or assembly heirachical position it can singularly or assembly or globally be replaced with any other. So guys it's really worth the effort. I use DSM not FreeCAD, but non the less, the utility of a fastener DB is fantastic ! I bother doing this so that my parts list always has correct specs and quantities, plus using the 'find', items can be found and replaced just in a couple of clicks.

    Once you've created such parametric part how do you insert multiple instances of it with different parameters into your model?

    • @ccmoonie
      @ccmoonie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too have the same question!

    • @MakenModify
      @MakenModify 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you will have to save it as a new part for each and the insert the one you need

    • @mattlennon3
      @mattlennon3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was hoping for the same info! I wonder would you:
      Modify the spreadsheet -> Save as -> import & use?
      Would be good if you could modify the spreadsheet for each instance imported into another design, so you could tweak the parameters without having to save a new one each time.

    • @MakenModify
      @MakenModify 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattlennon3 it should also be possible to make a table of combinations and write a macro that would export the wanted combinations. But did not do much research on it yet. You could ask in the freecad forum maybe

      Know this is a couple years old but for new people watching this just make a library of the parts you need like shown here then use one of the assembly workbenches to put together what you need. They allow you to import the same part multiple times just like you would have multiple copies in the real world. I've just been putting together something that has 24 pieces in it but only has 5 different part bodies. Each one can rotated and moved around as needed to assemble.

    Within the spreadsheet you can also type units with the number together.

  • @danrayson
    @danrayson 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    MASSIVE part missing from this video, something I've been trying to do now for ages;
    You can import copies of your spreadsheets alongside your bodies into an assembly4 project if you "File > merge projects", this allows you to set the parameters independently for each copy, meaning your library really is now a re-usable library of parts :D

    It would be nice if I could use just link to a sketch in extrude function, so that I save just sections library, and I may use the link to the sketch of that file in library in BIM model. That I have tried but extrude function not accepting link to the sketch...

  • @dse-elektronik

    A good and interesting film. I have a question. Can you save the spreadsheet file time to time to open the file of the main drawing. As I understand spreadsheet file every time open separately to dimensions opened. What will change as a spreadsheet file name. It's about accepting, for example, a link to the sketch. Greetings from Poland

    is there an easy way to align things , say you wanted to make a frame out of four bits of angle ?? thanks the align tool is a bit of a pain , and dragging things about with transform is no better ,,, forgive me if ive missed something and its simple .

    Yep I confirmed, the latest 0.19 has the style/resize issue fixed.

  • @guidomersmann9744
    @guidomersmann9744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    FreeCAD 0.19 will force you to use units, or spits and error, when trying to use the number in a constrain. Thickness alias did not work, as the name in spreadsheet already was thickness.

    • @whippoorwill1124
      @whippoorwill1124 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't seem likely: if THICKNESS wasn't accepted as an alias because it was already assigned as the name of a row, then why was HEIGHT accepted?

  • @forresterickson6225
    @forresterickson6225 ปีที่แล้ว

    At about 9:00 you you said do a "Save As" so I assume you will then have a folder into which you are putting your angle iron parts and type a file name that is descriptive of the principle variables of the part at the time you saved it. Could you elaborate on your "Save As" process. Beginners need even this help. We are all beginners at one time.

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  ปีที่แล้ว

      That part is up to the user on what is important to them. I might save my parts as thickness, length, height for example 0.25"x36"x2" and then the next one might be 0.25" x 36" x 3" and the next 0.25" x 36" x 4" and then save as some other metric like thickness 0.125" x 36" x 2" then 0.125" x 36" x 3" and so on. Whatever the user needs from this part family was my approach.

    Good video.. question can a cell generate a filename that can be used in file save filename. Like exampel. L50x50x5.*...... L40x40x4.... ect.?

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp

      Unfortunately not to my knowledge. There might be a macro floating around that can do that

  • @chris-tg6ki
    @chris-tg6ki 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your thickness issue is due to you using a child variable with the same parent class, A better parent class would,could be GAUGE-THICKNESS.

    • @jimviau327
      @jimviau327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you briefly elaborate on that concept pls ? What is Parent Class .vs. Child Class in FreeCAD ? Where/How is it managed ?

    04:25 - Where did you define that the value in B2 was in inches ? It presently appear as just a value. Shouldn't this value be interpreted as just that ? A value in mm ? Since mm is FreeCAD default ? How come FreeCAD converted that value back to mm ? I tried to reproduce this unit problem, didn't work. FreeCAD utilized the raw value in mm. Of course if I wanted inches then I could use a formula to calculate it but in your case FreeCAD automatically converted your inch value into mm, Why, is the question ?

    • @michaelcummings7246
      @michaelcummings7246 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He made another column and added formula to it to do conversion. So C3 has '=B2 * 25.4' which does inches to mm then he uses value from that column in his parts. He showed and said it and did it very fast and it was hard to follow.
