Dr Saqib hit the nail on the head with his last statement. We have betrayed our covenant to Allah we are no longer the middle nation and we are no longer one ummah being a good example to humanity, instead we have become 57 different countries each competing and sometimes hating the others. Our elites are too corrupt/unjust and our ulema are stuck in the past with their sectarian differences, but this panel gives us some hope, may we have more people like them

As a revert I have noticed this right away, as much as it’s said that we are one , it’s painfully obvious that is not so, we must do better , unfortunately it may not be at this moment.
There's no such thing as being stuck in the past the deen is for all times till the day of judgement and any who says it needs to be modernized or changed for new times are disbelievers many who say this want deen to confirm to western standards . I strongly believe the reason why our prophet PBUH and his companions didn’t do tafsir on the entire Quran is because that the Quran is a book which stands against the test of time. Because of it’s timeless.
Our relationship with it is live it and take lessons from it.
What does this mean? This means there are many gates or door which one can enter to understanding the Quran for his time and period, no one generation, even the best of generations can possess complete knowledge or understanding of the

Readers would find it interesting that back in 2009, an article was published in Haartez by a Jewish writer that spoke of the destruction of the first two temples and interestingly those accounts are the same as explained by our contemporary scholar. The Jews too believe that the destruction of the first temple was by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar and so on. The article is titled "The End of the Third Temple".
Also, Dr. Yasir Qadhi did record an interesting lecture on these verses some 3 years back. He was contemplating on how these verses should be viewed in modern times. The title of the TH-cam video is "The Rise and Fall of Bani Israil"

The punishment for not fulfilling the responsibility of dawah will not be a traditional azab but the azab of humiliation...May Allah show us the path to come out of the current crises with garce. Another speaker had raised the point of being prepared and progressive.That is also an important practical lesson for all.
All the scholars that are sitting together make a plan. Save Palestine contact all the scholars and get together. Go to Saudi Arabia. Tell them stop spending money on gold diamonds and cars. Completely agree with the classical interpretation. Imho, the 2 incidents mentioned relate to the past 2 destructions of the temple. And the verses following that warn the Bani Israel are about the future. That those incidents will be repeated whenever they transgress. And indeed through them, Allah SWT is warning us Muslims to not do the same. Allah's kalaam is so beautifully comprehensive. Subhan Allah! AllahuAkabar!

I really think the end of surah An-Nahl will help you understand this, in shaa Allah.
The real interaction with Bani Israel is da'wah, not war.
The war is the topic at this time, but the context of the war is the interaction.
War is not discussed much in Al-Isra, so in the surah the mention of war is deeper than war itself.
Please see how An-Nahl informs the interaction with the Jews, and it says Jews in surah An-Nahl, not Bani Israel.
Ayah 1 of An-Nahl, and ayah 2, bring amrullah into it, the order of Allah.
Zionists have gone ahead of amrullah by not believing in their messiah before returning to Israel.
They misread Deuteronomy, denying the latter prophets Jesus and Muhammad.
That tells us why ibaadan lillah can handle them, even uli ba'si, because a conscious creature that has gone ahead of the order of Allah is in another plane. Even an ignorant harsh human being is not going ahead of the order of Allah.
Milk and honey in surah An-Nahl are products of ceeatures that cannot go ahead of Allah, livestock and bees.
These products are found in Jannah, and whoever is producing them is not going ahead of the order of Allah.
The human corellation in the surah is Ibrahim, whose product is not for the pantry, but is legacy, mentioned in the surah as ummatan qaanitan lillah.
Qaanitan is not going ahead of Allah.
To keep it fair, Allah says some things about the interactions near the end of surah An-Nahl.
Surah Al Kahfi also informs this topic, because it teaches us to be accurate with knowledge, which is what is required in preaching to Ahlulkitab.

Not all modern humans are descendedants of Noah. You must know that Noah was a Mesopotamian. Abraham was a Mosopotamian descendant of Noah who travelled to Canaan where he later sired Ishamel & Isaac. Some on the panel reading in too much of their own perspectivings and thinking. The question that Allah is threatening muslims and Bani Israel at same time, ie to say that about coloniasm came about because Muslims behaved like Bani Israel. This does not add up because the verse is specifically reffering to Bani Israel in that particular verse. Allah knows best.

Can we be making a mistake in confining this Sura to a region can we the Muslims be at the receiving end as we are deviating from the right - this conference is provoking thoughts may be, may be there is more to this story of this Surah than has been understood

The story of Dawood alaih i salam to which sheikh noman refered the scholars did mention that interpretation what the sheikh told but they didnt accept it , as it contradicts islamic principle that ambiya are not sinful , so it is not classical explanation of ayah
The story of suleman alaih i salam the sheikh is right most of the scholars accepted it ( the tafseer sheikh described ) , but they have sound justification why they have chosed that one ...
The point is what is mentioned in book of tafseers the classical interpretation on which most of scholars rely should be opted unless there is sound evidence for the other view which a mufassir mentions ...
Finally it doesnt mean that Quran doesnt talk about current issues as u cannot interpret it considering present situation , u just have to rely on past classical explanations, because the lessons which are present in the verses are for the all people in any generation , which should be practiced
