  • You just never know. Seeing the world change so rapidly from one day to the next I think it's a good idea to be prepared for all possibilities, because we can go from calm to chaos in a matter of a few days! Our 6'x10' converted cargo trailer camper would also make the perfect bugout trailer should the need arise to get out of town on short notice. You can convert one very inexpensively too for bugging out, for camping/road trips or both.

    Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking, or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

    I followed your advice and bought a 6x12 cargo trailer. Cut in some windows, ceiling fan, 2 LiFeP 200 watt batteries, a NuWay propane stove (double tanks), discobeds. I use it for deer hunting now. Stayed in it comfortably for 2 weeks. I could easily stay in it indefinitely. Warm and dry and very comfortable. I want to thank you for inspiring me to get off my butt and getting it built. Thanks!

    I started life basically "Bugging Out " ... when I was five years old we lived in two Bedroom Shack with a Cast Iron Pump for Water .. an Outhouse .. No Electricity unless the Generator was fired up ... a Wood Fired Cast Iron Stove which also was the only source of heat ... Drinking and Cooking Water had to be brought in by car in Aluminum Milk Barrels .... in the winter the bathroom was the back porch using a 50 Gallon Drum filled with diesel fuel and two slats of wood across the top ... because it was 30 or 40 below zero and you would die before you made it to the Outhouse .... my friends were the Mosquitoes and the Cows next door ... my Toys were the Barb Wire Fence, Rocks and Mud .... I turn on the News and I sure long for the "Good Ol Days" ...

      @@birdlady2725 , the air bags just help with the suspension so the rear end doesn't sag so much and drop so much when going over bumps.
      They don't help with stability to much. You still have to be careful to get the weight correct in the trailer so it doesn't sway. I had a problem with trailer sway the first couple times until I got the weight distributed correctly.
      An anti sway hitch or weight distribution hitch would help more with stability than the air bags.

    Hi Rick ... good to see you and Linda are still getting out in the fresh air (been busy and have not replied in a while, I did retire though) ... funny, the concept of Bugging Out has always been a controversial one ... lots of variables, some good, some not so good ... as you know I have my 6X12 set up with the basics, cot, heater, stove and food/water, most is removable as I use the trailer for other things too ... I taught high altitude back country winter survival for many years in my 20's ... not too sure I want to be "roughing it" in a remote area in my mid 60's, especially in winter ... on the east coast where I am now you're fairly limited on 'remote' areas, and there will be others seeking same ... traveling during "events" could also be dicey ... so you need to move before others panic if you're going to go ... also traveling with weapons is a dicey thing on the liberal east coast .. food and fuel would be my main concerns long term going remote ... whereas I could survive 6 months off grid at home with the supplies I have stored ... there are few people I know who could survive longer than a week bugged out on the road or remote ... you and Linda are bit more practiced than most so you;de experience less hardship ... I did chuckle at the 'squirel meat' joke though ... whatever you do, you need a plan in an emergency situation ... cash, fuel, food, water, medical (and ammo) ... I didn't want to sound negative, but point out some realities if the SHTF ... hopefully, any situation would correct itself quickly ... be well my friends ... I hope the kids and g-kids are all doing well !

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good points to bring up and I agree with you on all of them. Bugging out should be a last resort and you need to know where yo are going before you ever leave your front door. It may not have to be the deep dark woods and may only be a friend or relatives driveway in a town that isn't racked by violence. But whichever, you need to be on top of events and know when it's time to head out, if that's what you're going to do. In many instances, you might be better off staying put. My town would be like that, but there would still be those here who would try to take what you have for themselves. Welcome back, we missed you!

    • @Spinonemaster
      @Spinonemaster 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gonagain ... yea, I agree, plans can fall apart quickly, so you need to stay flexible ... but having a plan puts you in a much better place than most who don't have one ... no matter where I've lived I've had a plan for the last 20 years ... and I've known a few real "experts" who've studied this for decades ... minor events are survivable ... but severe events like acts of God and/or some severe social collapse means real chaos in the streets that few would survive when the food/water and fuel are gone ... most people suffer from "normalcy bias' meaning they've never seen it so it's out of mind ... but our supply chains are short and weak in things like food and medicines ... think Watts or Ferguson riots 24/7 all over the country ... the Feds and FEMA would be helpless ... many don't know this but millions of people died during the Great Depression from mal-nourishment and the related disease and health issues

    Hi guys, on turning a around, most people use removable hitches on their vehicles, [ the part that the ball sits on]. My truck is a long wheel base 1 ton, turning a trailer on the rear when backing can be a chore, so I added a mount to the front of my truck, I drop the trailer, undue the ball and mount, put ball and mount on the frnt. of truck, so easy to place trailer in any place, easy because you can see right in front of you. Hay great video, even if you just want an awesome trailer for camping. I like my big truck, can go almost anywhere, I surprise 4x4's all the time when I show up in my 91' G.M.C. Can drop off both in a safe spot, and drive around in your truck. Gotta have 2computers -laptop/desktop. Know all gov properties/free and all state parks, and campgrounds. Would be fun, an adventure. Have a tall tent, can use for potty also.

      @gonagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can honestly say that I don't have a favorite and, so far, they all seem to work just fine, however that may change soon because of a new refrigerator I just received. It's a SetPower RV45S that has some features that we like. A review will be coming out in the next couple of weeks after I run the tests on it, but in the meantime, you can look it up on Amazon to get a peek at it. We're pretty hard on our refrigerators, letting them bounce around in our trailer going down those rough dirt roads all the time, so we're not into expensive units, just ones that work.

      I tow a 7x10 with a Toyota sienna minivan, 3500 lb capacity. With these small trailers you have balance the load inside so that 60% of the weight is forward in the trailer. If you don't, then you will get trailer sway at higher speeds.
      There are probably a bunch of Subaru forums with advice on towing. I think you should be able to tow with the Forester

    i like the simplicity of your trailer, i've been waiting to see the inside. trailers like this make it more real to me seems like all the builds are so over the top fancy and no way i could afford or capable of doing all that. so we get the trailer and get out of dodge while we can then what? food in the fridge would only last so long, and you could prep and store food but the trailer would only hold so much store stuff in your vehicle, one or two people could last a bit but then when stuff starts dwindling down then what?

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you have to place an obtainable goal, like two months worth of food and a plan to obtain water. You could probably easily get three months of survival food into your trailer and tow vehicle without too much trouble. I'm talking rice, flour, beans, dried eggs, coffee, sugar, cooking oil. Nothing fancy, just food to sustain you. Also, do you have to bugout? Or will your current location be safe? Some of us live in places that aren't even safe today, let alone after a national emergency.

You have a bed to sleep in, indoor space with an open floorplan you can move around in if it rains, a way to keep food cool if you happen to be out on the road for a bit with no nearby grocery stores, insulated walls, and a way to heat and cool yourself. In my 6x10 trailer tool box I carry 4,000 lb Ratcheting Cable "Comealong" ... if you're ever in a tight spot or someone else boxes you in where you don't have the room to turn or manouvre ...1. Disconnect and drop the trailer ... 2. Move your Tow Vehicle closer to the position you are trying to get to ... 3. Hook up the "Comealong" to your Tow Hitch Ball and Trailer Tongue .. 4. Drag the trailer towards your Vehicle .... the most I have ever had to move the trailer is about 6 feet in order to position myself for an easy exit ... I watched a Tow Truck Driver do that one day with a winch and I went out a few days later and bought a Comealong for $50.00 ... has saved me lots of aggrivation over the years ... is even great time saver if you really don't need it but just don't want to spend 15 minutes backing up, going forward and turning trying to Shoe Horn yourself into in or out of tight spot ... you can also buy a Wheel that changes out with the Foot of the Tongue Jack if you are so inclined ... about $40.00 ..

    I’ve thought about the bug out idea and I think I’m better off staying at home. I can only take very limited supplies if I take my trailer. I’ll run out of stuff far earlier than if I stay at home. If I’m out in the “wilderness” I’m very vulnerable to an ambush. I can fortify my home and have a lot more comfort until things settle down. My friends live close by, so we could pool resources for survival. Water is a huge concern too. I have 55 gallon rain barrels at home and neighbors with swimming pools. There are very little resources outside civilization, at least where I live in the Mojave desert.

      I hear you Stuart and it's something we all have to think about. I'm blessed to live in a place where it's probably fairly safe, or would be after a short period of unrest. However, a lot of people live in areas that would be best vacated and we each have to figure out what's best. Another thing, though, is the need to vacate because of weather, like hurricanes, and a bugout trailer would be a great thing to have in that situation too. You're smart to already be thinking about it.

      I’m with you, Stuart. Of course there could be reasons to leave our home in the high desert, a wild fire, for example. But like you, I hope I’m home if SHTF. Home is where everything I need is.

    Cost me less than 8k to buy a 30-foot travel trailer and get into a forested homestead. I say you gotta love it...

    Wow! Loved this video. Everything you said was so true. We are in our 21 ft forest river and can’t wait to get back to the tramper. Looks like your knee is better. Take care brother and I do know what you are talking about!

    sorry, imho, “where are you going to go?’ …
    your scenario about “Fed💰” failing to show up at the first of the month is ‘Right On!’, imho
    Our ‘Action Pathways’ totally separate after that. My ‘crystal ball’ broke six weeks ago, and my new vacuum tubes are still on the boat. i don’t know what will happen. But let me use some words that will describe that chaos, like …
    unimaginable, beyond worst nightmare, desolation, …
    At best, any preps will bring some temporary comfort before the lights really go out.
