Excellent video. I am still a Firefox user to this day and I have 0 complaints about using the browser. I love the fact that's it's not chromium based like you mentioned in the video. I also noticed that Firefox is the default browser on lots of Linux distros -- I wonder why?
@@mokmokfish2910 chromium is opensource as well i think its just history, firefox was more friendly to linux in the past, and for a while was objectively more private however, thats not the case anymore. they have a bunch of telemetry garbage and have a bunch of built in crap like pocket and rely
You didn't mention the great loss of function that the introduction of Quantum caused. The coolest add-ons suddenly got lost forever due to the limitations of the new add-on API. By this, Firefox lost it's most unique advantage, the limitless customizability.
Firefox's golden age is long gone but it's still a decent browser, open-source and privacy oriented. And i'm impressed at how they butchered the Firefox icon over the years. On the bright side, the ETP improved.
I'm not the biggest fan of the newer changes in Firefox. But I've used it since the Firebird days (used Netscape before that) and still do. The not so good changes are not enough to get me to join Googles monopoly in the browser market.
I switched to Phoenix as soon as it was available and stable. Then Firebird. Still using Firefox. I remember the "Acid test" , to test the CSS compatibility. so many memories.
I would really like to use Firefox more. It's the only big browser that still has a cool aura around it, and that's just neat. (I mean AskJeeves, Internet Explorer, and especially Netscape Navigator were all cool names) My main is Vivaldi initially because of how darn fast it ran on an old Windows 7 PC around 2019, eventually learning just how many quality of life features it has. Vivaldi has a tendency to just not work properly occasionally and Firefox is my backup for that.
Thank you for speaking our minds. From ubuntu to Firefox, we have seen the glory of software UI design until now. It is really impossible to express in words. Thank you for your hard work to make this video. Fox is dead long live the fire
Hey bro, channel is GREAT! Please don't get discouraged, and don't stop making videos, I follow them all! Happy to say that I've been following you since 700 subscribers!
I'm watching this on Firefox for Android right now. Back in 2016 the Android version was terrible, so I went to Edge instead. I still use Edge on Android, but Firefox is actually amazing now on Android. Extensions make the experience far better, especially browser scripts. I love it.
Mozilla doesn't listen to its users and loyal users. They remove features their users use. They redesign the UI every few years supposedly to make it easier to use, but in reality it makes the browser less accessible. When they make unnecessary changes, Mozilla displays the attitude of "if you don't like the changes, then use another browser" So, people do. I wonder if Mozilla even cares about their users as long as they're getting that sweet Google money each year.
Bottom line firefox was buggy, a memory hog and caused huge memory leaks. I stop using it 3 years back and will never go back. With new updates there would always be some glitchy bugs and I got tired of it and FF killing my powerful computer to run like 40% of it's capacity. I was using FF since the days of Netscape, before this Mosaic.
I like that Firefox syncs with most Firefox forks across devices. Most Chromium browsers don't. I switched to Fennec on Android and Zen on Mac and they sync beautifully.
I remember the glacial pace that Mozilla took to get to v3.5, things just worked. Then chrome came along and granted it was buggy because it was still new, so Google kept pushing updates& fixes at a break neck speed and was soon overtaking in version numbers. Mozilla saw this as a threat and just started even the most pointless of updates just to make it look like they were not left behind.
In my opinion Firefox 3.x had the best user interface, but ever since Firefox 4 they've been in a downward spiral of pointless Chrome-copying changes that do nothing but alienate their existing users. Still, I use Firefox for the same reasons you do. I also can't stand Chrome's font rendering
Honestly, Firefox is the best browser that's still open source, works well and doesn't phone home. You can choose to let Mozilla have some data in the settings but if you don't like that keep it off and they never will. Firefox isn't as fast as vanilla Chromium but it's far, far nicer to use without being hugely bloated. All in all it's the best choice at this point in time in my humble fooking opinion.
I like the seamonkey alternative, becuase of the complete suit features. I don't need a separate app in my Manjaro Linux for an email client, like thunderbird. Its all-in-one if mozilla could merger firefox and thunderbird I'll think about it? But right now I'm sticking with my seamonkey browser.
I use Firefox based browsers purely because I think its dangerous for Google to be able to set all web standards. There current marketshare makes that possible.
Can't judge a product by "market share." Otherwise, there would be no hope for open source or Linux. I don't choose products/services based on popularity. I try really hard to choose on the basis of what I need and how well that product or service fills that need. Chrome is dominate and its spyware. "Markets" today don't really function the way we are taught they work. I have a great deal of respect for the Mozilla Foundation. Its funny to me that most of the people making videos like this use Firefox or a variant. Its hard out here when you are not a trillion dollar company. Let's make more videos showing how to support the Mozilla and other projects who are struggling to maintain people centered values in a market based industry. At this point (2024) these videos seem to be punching down.
the australis single handedly pushed me to chrome. well, until chrome also become so bloated and intrusive and pushed me back to firefox. I have try to move from firefox times and times again since, but always come. . either from opera (barely a month), from vivaldi (4 months) or brave (3 months)
No word.about addons and the disruptive changes that happened over the years? Popularity of FF was all about certain addons for many users. When their addons broke, they turned away. And so did the addon devs.
The mobile app, in my opinion, was so insignificant in Firefox’s history that I didn’t even bother putting it in, considering that Firefox only ever had less than 0.5% mobile marketshare.
i left firefox for opera because i was trying to restore my old tabs to sync on the new FF but i forgot my FF password so by resetting my password it deleted the tab, idk whos the genius at FF that thought that would be a good idea.
Excellent video. I am still a Firefox user to this day and I have 0 complaints about using the browser. I love the fact that's it's not chromium based like you mentioned in the video. I also noticed that Firefox is the default browser on lots of Linux distros -- I wonder why?
i believe its for the same reasons you mentioned, aswell as being (i belive) mostly open source
pretty sure its just the fact it has better support with linux distros right out of the box such as autoscroll being native, and that its open source
@@mokmokfish2910 chromium is opensource as well

It's the best of a relatively poor bunch these days I find. I hope that Manifest v3 will bring Firefox back to glory but I'm not holding my breath
for a small channel like your, you have a top-tier quality of your video montage, sound, etc. well done dude, keep it going

Great vid man, can't believe you have less than 1k subs. You def deserve more.
I remember using Phoenix back in school when everyone was curious about what I was using being very different to their defaults.

I experienced the oposite, mainly when watching videos where chrome eqting up to 40% of the cpu whereas Firefox caps at 20%
I'm still using Firefox on my windows and Linux machine, never had any complaints with this software

Happy 20th Bday Firefox!

iirc they collect data by default and you have to turn it off, sometimes in about:config, but their telemetry isnt as identifiable as google for sure.

I like the new UI. There, I said it! 🤷
yup,it is bashed for sake of being bashed
I use Firefox based browsers purely because I think its dangerous for Google to be able to set all web standards. There current marketshare makes that possible.
I am watching this video on Firefox. The browser works OK, but user interface looks clunky. Frankly I think that they need more UI changes.
I've Firefox since 2003, I don't know what happened but it sucks these days.
