Hi, a week ago I received a Keeley Monterrey, great pedal, inmediatly fall in love with it. I was playing with it for a couple of days without any problem. Tho days ago I purchased a Roland EV5 an plugged it into the EXP port on the Monterrey. The pedal let me take control of the RATE parameter with my fott, everything OK. BUT...when I unplugged the EV5, the RATE knob stop working. Rotating the knob makes nothing at all, it now stays at a fixed rate (the same in the three modes). Now the only way to take control of the rate is connecting the exp pedal. What could it be? Does the EV5 ruined something inside the Keeley? Is there a way to re-calibrate or fixing this rate knob problem?
Awesome video! Props for creativity & originality - really useful since Hendrix was already covered. In particular, your bit with "Breathe" was encouraging for me, because I have also been eyeing Keeley's Dark Side pedal. Now I know that I could get those sounds out of this device also!

You gotta have great chops, understand what goes into great tone, be personable without trying too hard to please, know your gear, and explain clearly and yet concisely. You score on all fronts. Outstanding review! I got a 3 hour demo of this pedal a couple weeks ago when I saw Mike Zito & The Wheel live. It was his first night with the pedal and he produced just about every modulation effect with pedal you could imagine. Sounded like he had 10 pedals on the board... but it was just tuner, overdrive and Monterey. I am SOLD. What a pedal !! as your review demonstrates. JH

Anyone else here with a Monterey pedal finding that the Mod side is VERY noisy? On all three settings, I am getting various alien space birds in the background... And the boost going Mod > Fuzz is HUGE. Like adding 10 dBs of loudness, whereas going Fuzz > Mod is a nicely balanced sound. I've listened to every video review while researching and didn't pick up on these discrepancies. Help !!
Have you tried the limited germanium version of the Monterey? Love your videos. Have both the germanium. Monterey and dark side on my board. Incredible tones!! Thanks Jay
Hey, nice review. Does the rate knob control the Q in the auto-wah setting? I'd love to use this pedal to replace my micro q tron for live shows. Any other thoughts on the auto-wah?
After hearing this and the dark side I'm still torn between the two!! Both fit my set up perfectly, I just can't justify dropping $600 right now haha. Awesome playing man! Half way through the dark side I subscribed, awesome demos and awesome playing! I do have a question, I was thinking about picking up an EHX Canyon delay and looper, Lester G, and either this, the dark side, or both (eventually) haha. I don't see a huge benefit to the Lester G after these 2 pedals, seeing as they have the rotary speaker effect. Do you think the Canyon would still be a worthwhile pedal to add to this? I liked a lot of its features, and these pedals have a few that it has, but still has a few effects like shimmer and reverse, that these don't. I'd love to see a video on the Canyon from you! (If you don't have one already, haven't browsed the channel just yet, since I stumbled across it lol) any input would definitely be appreciated!
+wilfred mercado You would have to use an expression pedal. However, Mission Engineering makes an expression pedal that looks and reacts just like a wah.

Canyon would fit in perfectly. Use the Canyon for your delays and that will give you the freedom to play with the modulations on the Dark Side :)
