Long range ATACMs was part of the military package for Ukraine.
Ukraine will probably get the next generation missiles, instead of ATACMS. Congress authorized $88M for them last year.
I read that a republican demanded long-range ATACMS. Ah here it is from AP, April 17 "The House’s version of the aid bill pushes the Biden administration to provide long-range ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) to Ukraine, which could be used to target Russian supply lines.
The U.S. has resisted sending those weapons out of concerns Moscow would consider them escalatory, since they could reach deeper into Russia and Russian-held territory. The House legislation would also allow the president to decline to send the ATACMS if it is against national security interests, but Congress would have to be notified."
Which was specifically asked for by Johnson house speaker, if Biden objects he must notify Congress if you doubt this statement, you are more than welcome to read the bill yourself, which clearly states that Ukraine shall receive long range attack him

The only advising the US should do is how to operate US equipment, not where or when to use it. Ukraine knows their enemy, knows their territory, and knows their capabilities better than we do.
This is starting to sound just like how our involvement in Vietnam started, first military supplies, then senior level Embassy staff advisors, then technicians, then battalion and later company level filed advisors, special forces advisors, then air and naval support, then full fledge infantry brigades and divisions and 13 years later 58,000 American dead.
Oh, the U.S. offers advice about refineries even when not providing gear. We pay a lot of experts to get things wrong.

Denys I have to correct you about the oldest commissioned ship still in service it is HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. She was ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759, and launched in 1765. With 246 years of service as of 2024, she is the world's oldest naval vessel still in commission.

A shame. That ship is a century old one of a kind relic. Practicaly a museum piece. Irreplaceable. But so was the AN-225.
Ukraine has lost some museum pieces, some with two legs. Maybe this will send a message.
I don't think it was destroyed? Denys said the control room was hit, and it might take months to get it back into service. It seems like a useful type of ship to be available on the seas in general, not only for war. It makes sense for Russia to make the repairs.

Could you imagine serving on a ship that first saw service during WWI ?!?!? Over one hundred years old and still chugging along. This thing started life with something akin to a triple expansion STEAM engine to turn its props!!! 😂

HMS Victory is the oldest commisioned warship in the world and she was launched in 1765. She was Admiral Lord Nelsons flagship at the battle of Trafalgar 1805. She is now in Portsmouth dockyard and open to visitors.

Sorry Denys, it is not the oldest military ship afloat in service in the world. That honor belongs to the USS Constitution which is a commissioned US Navy ship built in 1797 and is staffed by regular Naval personnel. In fact by the the time this Russian ship was built, the USS Constitution had been busy fighting a war 100 years earlier.

HMS Victory beats that by several years and is still a commissioned ship.
Victory, while actively commissioned, is permanently dry docked. The Constitution is normally afloat and can actually be operated under sail!
@albertoswald8461 certainly a very good plus point for the constitution. As a side thought, UK land naval establishments are 'HMSxxxx' so, presumably there will be several 'never, ever been afloat' 'ships' even older!

I suppose that depends on your definition of "active". USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned ship afloat. HMS Victory is the oldest commissioned ship in any Navy, but neither ship would ever be used in a combat role so to me they aren't "active military ships", just "parade ships"

Wouldn’t The Constitution technically be useful in a situation where there’s an extreme fuel starvation, and it can just sail on the wind while still being able to carry a decent amount of supplies and people?
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire In a civilian capacity? Sure, when you need capacity then anything that floats works, but in a military capacity? No. The US Navy would use one of it's Nuclear-powered ships for the role of transport if it had a fuel issue due to the speed and survivability of modern warships. The Constitution would be a sitting duck for enemy anti-ship missiles if it tried ferrying supplies and troops to a theatre of war.

US is replacing 1980's ATACMS with the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), which is smaller in diameter will fit the HMARS and MRLS without modification with at least twice the range from around 180 miles to at least 360 up to 600 miles. The ATACM M30 cluster munition were scheduled for disposal so Ukraine should get all currently in stock the other ATACM variants M40 & 50 will be replaced one to one as PrSM's are delivered or ahead of scheduled delivery.

So don't lose faith, there will be more strategic withdrawals and Ru will capture some more villages.

And the value of the Norwegian aid is not to be shunned, it's actually on par with that of Japan!
