The opening sequence of this with Cotton is my favorite part, and I remember sitting in the theater and hoping they would break the formula and leave him in as a main character with the added weight of his wife's murder, since it would likely be pinned on him. I still consider that a lost opportunity.

It’s off balance. I love 4 because it’s gory like part 1 and 2, but with more of the humor from 3. It’s got the right balance. But also, the Kevin Williamson films feel directly connected and this one just feels unbalanced. There are plenty of things to love about this film though. The behind the scenes drama is too apparent in the final cut though.

While I agree that they could've tightened it up a bit, I actually really like it. Even if I put it as my 3rd favorite, it's much closer to 2 for me than most. In fact, depending on the day, I can like 3 better than 2. Besides, it puts the Scream universe in the Askewniverse with the cameo from Jay & Silent Bob themselves, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. And that is a plus for me. Plus, I like the Emily Mortimer story arc, supposedly a wholesome actress who, as it turns out, slept with someone to get the role on Stab 3.

The way Scream’s ‘worst’ movie in the franchise is still better than half of the other slasher sequels. I mean it has it’s weaknesses but compare it to some of the Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies. It’s MILES ahead. It just shows how strong the series as a whole is.

  • @chrissayeranderson5710

Miramax didn’t like the idea of violence after what happened at columbine. So they downplayed the gore and scares and upped the comedy aspect. The creepy old school producer could be considered a dig at a certain person in the Weinstein company! It can’t be coincidental, can it?.

Honestly Scream 3 is underrated. It's a remarkably fitting finality to the series (until Scream 4 came and ruined that) taking the horror directly to its most logical location thematically-- Hollywood itself. The only thing that truely stands out to me as negatives is the lackluster killer's whiny pretentions and the weird little voice changer device. But that's not really enough to break the film for me.

Scream 3 is still Awful. I have it because I have the (now no longer so) Scream complete collection. There ARE some things I like about it. I love the opening (I swear Scream does not miss with their cold openings) with how brutal and kinda sad it is. I love the cameos, but most of all I love the movie set for Stab 3 recreating the sets of the first film. It's a haunting and surreal set of moments. I don't like the rest of the film tho. Weakest & most uninteresting Killer, I absolutely LOATHE the decision to retcon/change the first film. That Billy Loomis and Stu were essentially pawns and didn't do the whole murdering of their own. And we really didn't need a surprise family member twist at the end. Plus the whole explosion kill is just too dumb for me.
I'll still rewatch it every now and then, but it's absolutely not a first choice. For my order of fav Scream movies, it goes
    Scream
    Scream 4
    Scream 2
    Scream 3.
Here's hoping Scream 5 will be good but without having Wes Craven (Rest in Peace) I'm def worried

This guy pisses me off with his nitpicking of the movie. I know I am in the minority here, but Scream 3 is one of my favorite sequels in the franchise. I even prefer it over part 2. Most of the things he picks apart are some of the very reasons I love it so much. I will agree that the movie fell into the trap of most slasher films by having half baked characters that seemed like they were only there to be killed. However, Parker Posey is pure magic and she and Courtney Cox have great chemistry. I didn't really like the killers in part 2 (mostly Mickey) and Scream 3 makes up for it. I think Scott Fowley brought a great intesity to his character and the fight sequence between he and Sidney is my favorite of the series. It is very well choreographed and directed. he ending was very intense because I thought Sidney was going to die.
Also, the runtime doesn't bother me. It's the last film in the trilogy. I love that the movie ties everything back to the original. Is it a little convoluted? Maybe, but it still works. Scream at its heart is a horror-comedy so It's allowed to be a little campy and over the top. I also loved the dream sequences with her mother. They added another level of darkness to the film. You call them supernatural but I want to know when dreams became supernatural? They were just used as Sidney's illusions to show her being haunted by her mother's past. It's a nice touch in my opinion. I usually like the videos on this channel but this one just annoyed me because it seemed very nitpicky. I agree, it's not a perfect movie and it definitely feels like the 3rd in the series. It's also missing that polished writing from Kevin.
Still, it's a very funny film and I love the setting for the finale since I hated the setting for the finale in Scream 2. I know i'll get people telling me to relax and not to take it personal but I can't help it. I love this film and I will die on this hill defending it. It's funny becuase I didn't care for it when I first saw it in the theaters but I've fallen in love with it over the years as I did with Halloween 2, Halloween 6 and a few other horror films.

Scream 3 is no longer the black sheep, besides Gale's bangs. The tv show is. I love Roman being the killer, it makes sense and ties the trilogy together nicely. Also Campbell and Cox are as good as they have ever been, it was only the writing that was inconsistent. Randy's cameo was also cool and a nice surprise and again made sense for the character. And like other Scream films this movie was also ahead of its time with its #MeToo subplot with Maureen and her trauma setting this whole franchise off. Watch some reaction videos and you'll see newer generations see Scream 3 as a good installment. And Scream is still the best and most consistent slasher series around!

  • @tlesterable
    @tlesterable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Saying that you don’t always have to tie in a movie with previous entries misses the whole meta commentary point of Scream 3. It’s following the established “rules” of a trilogy. These plot devices used may be trite but that is point of the series.

I disagree that the Randy moment felt forced. Jay and Silent Bob? Yes, of course, but Randy's scene is so perfect and inkeeping with the character that it might actually be the best writing of the movie. Randy would have 100% made that video for the survivors. 100%. I feel like it's a kind of apology for his death on the filmmaker's part but with the caveat that yes, he is dead but here's a little more. It's fucking perfect.

5:51 Yes, dream sequence feels like it doesnt belong to the Scream movies, but Wes said he wanted to add some more dread and tension to the movie this way, while studio constantly insisted on toning down the violence.
But when you think how traumathised Sidney is at this point, having such dreams make sense.
    And it's pure Wes Craven!

Scream 3 isn't the worst slasher sequel ever but it's definitely not the best sequel either. It has some decent moments and it does have that Craven feel to it which is always a good thing. The whole Hollywood meta thing, having the art more than imitate life where our surviving characters from the previous movies live in the "art" while roaming around Hollywood might be a little too on the nose and I can see how it can turn people off from getting into it the same way the previous two movies draws the viewers in. But it's at least more coherent and narratively linear than other slasher franchise sequels.

Is Scream 3 the weakes one in the series? Probably.
Is Scream 3 a bad movie? No!
Since I have learnt about it's production history (Williamson not being able to write, dropping the OG concpet for script and studio insisting on more comedy and less violence/blood after Columbine shootings, Neve having a very limited time for reprising the role, Craven rewriting the script on the go, and so on),
and since I've learnt how Craven fought to deliver a decent movie I really appreciate Scream 3.
Sure, almost every single time I watch it I get bit frustrated.
Because I know it could be soooo much better, if only studio didn't put such a preassure on Craven.
Still it is such a good sequel, and has so much interesting and entertainign things in it.
Speaking of studio's interference, well, at the end it's nothing in comparison to Cursed.

I still like "Scream 3" as well as its soundtrack. I just posted that I didn't like the "fandom" motive in Scream (2021), and it seems somewhat hypocritical as it feels like a "next-level" edition of Roman's motive from "Scream 3" but with a whole franchise instead of a movie.

That plot point about Maureen Prescott’s ordeal, it was such open knowledge, regarding Harvey Weinstein’s heinous crimes. Harvey Weinstein was a producer on Scream 3, Weinstein’s known diabolical pleasure from getting away with his Caligulan delights in plain sight is arguably most primely (and sickly) revealed in Scream 3, which he possibly chose to let slide in this particular film for how rarely viewed it is in comparison to its two predecessors. Yet it is for this reason that Scream 3 might just be the creepiest out of all four installments. Harvey Weinstein served as an executive producer on all four of Wes Craven's Scream movies (as well as the TV show of the same name, That Harvey Weinstein lurked over the producing credits now feels like a horrible kind of irony. “You can see the similarities in the demise of the very company that produced it,” the film’s editor, Patrick Lussier stated, ultimately I don’t think the story in “Scream 3” is appreciated as much as it should be, But The irony of “Scream 3, is that it was distributed by Dimension Films. Scream 3 was inundated by scheduling issues, studio meddling, and daily rewrites. Twisting itself around this convoluted narrative is the fact that Harvey Weinstein executive-produced the movie, sometimes they say that truth is stranger than fiction.
Dimension Films’ projects were largely overseen by Bob Weinstein, with Harvey distracted by more Oscar-friendly material over at Miramax, parallels between Harvey Weinstein and John Milton are clear, but what remains a mystery is if the Miramax head was ignorant of the similarities between himself and the fictional producer or was, far more disgustingly, boasting about his crimes to a largely uninformed public.
After all, life imitates art and vice versa.

This movie is quite good. I don't see the hate for it. Maybe because it's PART 3 in the series and generally people perceive third installments to be inferior without a second thought. This is one of the third parts I think is on the level of the first two. I like we didn't have Sidney as the focus and we had a solo killer. Roman having ties to the first movie's killers is a nice touch because as the movie teaches, trilogies always go back to the beginning and tie things up. The Randy cameo is not forced. They obviously wanted him to discuss the rules of a trilogy since he did the other two movies discussing the concepts of their stand in a series and this was originally the end so having him there to finish it out made sense as opposed to having some one else discuss the trilogy concept for him. LAY OFF THAT CAMEO. This is a tape done before his death and unless they decided to bring him back good as new or even all scarred, you have nothing to claim was diminishing to his death in any way. If they were to do this again in Scream 4, THEN you can say it feels forced because now they're stretching like the amount of times they were expanding Jigsaw's role in the Saw series after he died in Part 3. Speaking of Scream 4, it amazes me how many people put that above Scream 3, which is laughable given how overly rushed and short that movie is compared to all of the others. Look at all the deleted scenes that movie has and had those been included in the final cut, then you could say it's better than Scream 3. They took out so much interaction between the original trio, development of the new cast, and the more fleshed out ending with the original trio. What was Wes Craven thinking? Scream 2 was 120 minutes long and Scream 4 with all those scenes would have added to the same length but it gets dropped to a whopping 103 minutes.

I enjoy the movie, but I preferred part 4 (especially as the latter was filmed in my home state) over part 3. I don't think Scream 3 is as bad as thought (and it had a troubled production compared to the others). I finally watched it last year for its 20th anniversary and a watch for the whole series (up to that point, I had only seen the first one).
    They're apparently releasing a 5th one next year/in 2 months or so.

I'm sorry, but the fact that you said New Nightmare is in the top 3 Nightmare movies offended me. That movie is worse than Dream Child, and that movie has super Freddy.

Scream 3 is not a bad movie . It just has some mishaps . The movie used a lot of comedy elements to fight against lawsuits trying to say movies are the cause of violence . The story is there, and it is easy not to watch , but the movie does round up a conclusion. Yes , Sidney wasn’t there the whole movie , but that final shoot were we see Sid leave the door open and not to worry about life ahead of her, is a great ending . Shows a whole arch of her character. Lack of Kevin , lack of a good story line , lack of everything. But Kruger and Craven served the movie Justice as much as they good .

Scream 3 might have been better with even less Neve Campbell by keeping her out of the movie to create a bit of mystery about her whereabouts and maybe have her as a possible suspect. Nevertheless, I thought it was pretty good and Parker Posey brought it, as always.

Eh, this movie is not my bag. But it passes the time without complaints if you want to watch something where a group of teens or college kids get murdered by some psycho for reasons. A popcorn muncher.

It really bothers me that this is considered the worst of the series. I consider it the second best behind the 1st one. It went deeper into the rules of sequels and trilogies and the harpooning of Hollywood horrors by showing the characters actually entering into the making of their horror movies and tied the series together. I also feel like it helped solidify the group cohesion of our longtime favorites and showed them acting as a team to be their own heroes. In fact this should have been the end of the franchise. I will, however, give you that the mother ghost scenes weren't particularly well executed and felt out of place.

Although its completely ridiculous, I preferred Scream 3 over 2 and 4. 1 is still the best in the series. It will be interesting to see how 5 turns out.

My aunt Lori worked on this movie and has a 3ish second part in the film. Theres a short haired blonde lady sitting in a chair on the left side of the door as the characters come out of the studio in the first act of the film and thats her.
