It took me like 4 years to finally come to appreciate Spencer's vocals, they're really extraordinary. I was so used to the growl vocals in their old demos that I couldn't see past it. Honestly, Periphery II is one of the best metal albums I've heard in years.
Pied777 Guys, chill down. I say: Metal is metal! There are deathcore kiddies and there are oldschoolers. Just chill down and think once again if you really think this discussion is necessary
This band is so damn perfect. Honestly, before I knew it, I couldn't imagine a band this complete; growls, melodic voice, such strength yet so much softness when intended... Man, this kind of bands makes me wanna burn my house and throw everything left through the windows!
Since it came out, this album has been at the very top of everything I have ever heard. And I have heard many things, believe me. Great songs, great playing, great singing! All other cool bands always leave something missing. With Periphery I wouldn’t put in or take anything out; It is perfect as it is. Great job Periphery!! Hope you come to Portugal again soon.
I enjoy the comments of so many true metal haters, all closed minded people, they're so stuck on old school metal that they can't appreciate the evolution of the genre. djent is the perfect combination between the heaviest metal and the more melodical ones. a heavier evolution of proggresive heavy metal. the interlude at 1:55 it's so fucking heavy an groovy :'). death to all but metal lml.
And that is EXACTLY why I love them! Guys that hang out with their fans at the merch store after the gig to talk to them. Even during the shows you really feel that they love their fans very much and are as happy to see us as we are to see them.
mexicanmaggot666 lol nope? he was co-producer of PII and was official member of the band at this time (but i don´t know why he isn´t in the music video)
Sorry, but you're wrong. Spencer Sotelo is a better singer than Howard and Jesse. Just listen to a song live of Periphery. I invite you to listen to some and see for yourself.
Eloy Muñoz there's no being wrong here buddy that's an opinion on music... I couldn't care less if he's a better singer live. What matters to me is how his voice comes out on the record because that's what I hear 99% of the time, in my headphones, in my car, in my living room when I game, etc. I like good live singers as much as the next guy. But when I say i'd prefer the guy from Killswitch I mean that I prefer the tone of his voice, not that he's actually a better singer. The current vocals I think are too high pitched and stand out too much. Some may like the band exactly for that, but to me, that's something that makes it hard to listen. And the back vocals arrangements remind me of BBABH, which for some reason, has never been a good reference in my book.
To be fair if I had and if other singers had the same vocal range as spencer I'm sure everyone would show it off! Because it's not easy to get that that amazing sound spencer has! He's amazing. And yes your opinion is fine, that's your choice but his high vocals are what draws people in because they are piercing vocals! The music this band makes need his vocals! They wouldn't be the same with any other style vocals! Spencer makes Periphery, Periphery. :)
What a random thing to come out with. It's like saying, oh, killswitch are good, but I think Bryan Adams would be better as their vocalist. What even. And Jessie doesn't have anywhere near the vocal range the sponce has. You really have confused me.
GreenSmileTV ok,but is progressive but with many nu-metal influences. Death for exemple are progressive but their true roots are death metal. i don´t think progressive is a style, but some bands are and the major part aren´t
helder lopes Progressive Metal is the most accurate description for Periphery, by the definition of the term they're creating something progressive, a sound that is constantly evolving and gradually expanding in scope. Their music is mainly based on the framework laid out by progressive bands like Meshuggah and Dream Theater, although they've also been influenced by bands like Deftones, Tool, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nobuo Uematsu (composer of Final Fantasy soundtracks). I don't think they've ever cited "nu-metal" as their influences, I think you're probably confused due to Spencer's vocal style, which is more prominent in that type of genre and not prog.
I don't know what it is, but it just seems off. I'm not here to sh*t on everyone's parade but the guitar and drums, in places, just seem to be doing two different things, and it just sounds out. Though this is just my opinion, so I imagine I'm going to be hated for saying it.
Not everybody has the same taste in music. "Good" is an opinion. But I think that TALENT will be remembered. I think musicians like Tosin Abasi will be remembered. Bands like Periphery here. Very talented. I'm sure they'll be remembered.
Absolute junk. More of the same ProTwelled, automated, sampled, triggered, loudness-maximized and hyper-compressed incoherent noise that has become the industry standard for the metal genre, during the past 10 to 15 years. The best thing about this noise is the silence that followed when I turned it off.
+Someone Else At first i felt the exact same way. But than something pushed me to listen to this. I don't know why but i needed to hear that thrash more so i can hate it more i guess haha. And now i'm a fanboy of Periphery...
+Arda Hocic Yeah, I found that the things I love the most are often things I dislike at first, like beer (artisanal stuff of course, not macro) or bands like Meshuggah or even Periphery. I used to be convinced Meshuggah was shitty random noise and hated them; now they totally blow my fucking mind.
This is so freaking amazing!! The rush of goosebumps I got while watching this was exactly the same as the first time I heard this song. Words cannot describe just how intense this vid is!!!
Was literally listening to a cover of "The Gods Must be Crazy", then clicked on this straight after, and the end of the last video flowed into the beginning of this one. :O
not everyone sucks. in fact, i think that music is getting better and better. (however, i dont count pop music which is just earcandy for the masses just for money, because that is getting worse and worse). people will forever be pushing the boundaries of music to make it so much more interesting. im really excited for this!
The emotions are the fact that it's cold if you ask me. The fact that no emotions can bring about such marvels make you question humanity. And when the song goes slow at 3:10, you get that feeling all over again but in a different way. But that's all my opinion. Music after all, is like poetry. You're the one who imagines the scenery, they just throw down all the colours.
FUUUUUUUUUUUCK! every time when the rhythm guitars in the 2nd chorus start chuggin that open power chord it gives me goosebumps! i still can't get over how it just sounds sooo much heavier lol
I just checked out all the bands you mentioned in your post - Voivod, etc. I couldn't stand to listen to more then a minute of each. It belongs in the era that it was created. Welcome to 2013, we have Periphery. The evolution of the crap you pointed out.
it cracks me up how people are seriously arguing over what bands belong in what "genre" who cares about specifics its heavy its metal its sick nuff said
Thank you I will try them out but I think you're right in the sense that they might not be my style. I prefer a little melody as opposed to constant aggression. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
I donÄt care if you like djent or not, if the cleans are good or not, if there is too much chugging, if it is too progressive or the video looks like michael bay on lsd, I'm just here for the fat grooves of Matt Halpern... maaaan does that guy kill ! (Of course, the guitarists will go crazy about misha too !)
+Luemm3l The guitarists are going crazy over all three of them! My personal favourite is Mark, though. See: the rhythm guitar interlude in Ji. Hot damn.
Thank God Deftones brought these guys on tour with them! Got to see them open for them twice and am now fucking hooked! Bought this album at the Austin show!
It took me like 4 years to finally come to appreciate Spencer's vocals, they're really extraordinary. I was so used to the growl vocals in their old demos that I couldn't see past it. Honestly, Periphery II is one of the best metal albums I've heard in years.
Fucking Fuck, that´s enough said.
that's not METAL go listen to Slayer you dumbfuck scumbag piece of shit
Pied777 Check my lastfm profile, I have 1074 tracks of Slayer listened buddy.
Pied777 slayer are irrelvant. nobody really gives a fuck about thrash any more
Pied777 Guys, chill down. I say: Metal is metal! There are deathcore kiddies and there are oldschoolers. Just chill down and think once again if you really think this discussion is necessary
you have no idea how much I love this band
And I have no idea WHY I love this band.
And you have no idea how much I love this band
This band is so damn perfect. Honestly, before I knew it, I couldn't imagine a band this complete; growls, melodic voice, such strength yet so much softness when intended... Man, this kind of bands makes me wanna burn my house and throw everything left through the windows!
Uhm.... Tons of bands mix growling and clean singing.
1:40 glISTENING, under the wings of a gOOOLDEN ERAAA! love that bit!
Periphey: Lets make a song that is only possible for superhumans to play.
Anyone else think that 2:39 is absolutely awesome? The sheer palm-muted BRVTAL-ness is overpowering.
+AnonInTheMatrix FUCKIN AWESOME !
I've always loved that moment when they switch from playing their own things with motion to just all STRAIGHT CHUGS, god it's SO good
I enjoy the comments of so many true metal haters, all closed minded people, they're so stuck on old school metal that they can't appreciate the evolution of the genre. djent is the perfect combination between the heaviest metal and the more melodical ones. a heavier evolution of proggresive heavy metal. the interlude at 1:55 it's so fucking heavy an groovy :'). death to all but metal lml.
+Rylagon Musics i present to you: sarcasm
+Daniel Navarro "closed minded" is a hip word I guess, and "true metal haters" is a way to say other people aren't entitled to have an oppinion?
People's opinions don't matter if they can't spell opinion right
+Daniel Navarro YES YES YES YES YES \m/ !!!!
They're entitled to an "oppinion" (lol), they're also entitled to be ridiculed when said opinion is stupid and wrong.
And that is EXACTLY why I love them! Guys that hang out with their fans at the merch store after the gig to talk to them. Even during the shows you really feel that they love their fans very much and are as happy to see us as we are to see them.
I will call this Progressive MetalCore :3 (y)
so accurate accually. i've initialy thought they were metalcore, until i started listening to more then just scarlet
wow these 3d animations are like 1998...
What a phenomenal band and most of all what a phenomenal voice. I am just starting to dig into Periphery and sure I am getting into a good band again.
Wheres nolly?
He wasn't an official member of the band yet. They released the single and video before they named him to be their permanent bassist.
mexicanmaggot666 lol nope? he was co-producer of PII and was official member of the band at this time
(but i don´t know why he isn´t in the music video)
Well, only they know why, maybe he was busy...
Reminds me of Protest the Hero kind of
though not as good imo
Marsh the Darsh
Not as good, but very fucking good.
Both bands kick ass!
I've saw this guys in DT tour in Italy.. amazing..they have improved a lot. now i love the djent
this band would be fucking perfect with the clean vocals of Jesse from Killswitch Engage.
or howard. these vocals are pretty good, but I generally find his vocals (cleans and hoarse) a bit wishy washy
Sorry, but you're wrong. Spencer Sotelo is a better singer than Howard and Jesse. Just listen to a song live of Periphery. I invite you to listen to some and see for yourself.

What even.
And Jessie doesn't have anywhere near the vocal range the sponce has.
You really have confused me.
this is a little bit better than bullshit metalcore because these guys have some skill and they are kinda progressive
Thats why it is called progressive metal. :D
i'd say it more than kinda progressive
GreenSmileTV ok,but is progressive but with many nu-metal influences. Death for exemple are progressive but their true roots are death metal. i don´t think progressive is a style, but some bands are and the major part aren´t
GreenSmileTV fail

I actually believe this is the best song of the decade, it's so amazing!
I don't know what it is, but it just seems off. I'm not here to sh*t on everyone's parade but the guitar and drums, in places, just seem to be doing two different things, and it just sounds out. Though this is just my opinion, so I imagine I'm going to be hated for saying it.
Yeah. I hate you so much now. Sorry
It's cool bro, I get that a lot but hey, that's what I get for having an opinion, isn't it?
Laggy As long as you believe in Jesus, there will always be someone who loves you. No matter what opinions you may have....lol
Well then I'm fucked aren't I hahah
Laggy Yeah....
1:08 oh no... :(
jesus christ i cant stop listening to your music, i need to see you live!
Good band but I just cant get into those clean vocals. A bit too whiny for me.
Good music, gay vocal...
No. Vocals are just fine.
just fine in gay way :)
Nikolay Dobrev Just fine in a musical way.
and gay guitar
Not everybody has the same taste in music. "Good" is an opinion. But I think that TALENT will be remembered. I think musicians like Tosin Abasi will be remembered. Bands like Periphery here. Very talented. I'm sure they'll be remembered.
the voice is supergay

The best thing about this noise is the silence that followed when I turned it off.
Someone Else all what you said is true. To put it shоrt - it's just boring. A constant deja vu feeling through the song.
+Someone Else At first i felt the exact same way. But than something pushed me to listen to this. I don't know why but i needed to hear that thrash more so i can hate it more i guess haha. And now i'm a fanboy of Periphery...

JesterIF Do you really compare Periphery to our beloved Shuggah?
Just saying both bands took some time to get used to, and it was worth it in both cases.
Still holds up as amazing song. Love it...
everything in this video...the sound..the visual...so djent
This is so freaking amazing!! The rush of goosebumps I got while watching this was exactly the same as the first time I heard this song. Words cannot describe just how intense this vid is!!!
This song has been STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR WEEKS! WEEKS!!
This is the most headbangable song I've heard ina LOOOOOOOONG time!
I honestly don't think a song and video can get any better than this.
Reminds me of Protest the Hero! :) Amazing bands! Both of them!

Hands down my favorite song. Ever.
You're on almost every Periphery video I've watched.... And I love it
Was literally listening to a cover of "The Gods Must be Crazy", then clicked on this straight after, and the end of the last video flowed into the beginning of this one. :O
vocals like a vocal soloist in the group Memphis May fire and so beautiful.
not everyone sucks. in fact, i think that music is getting better and better. (however, i dont count pop music which is just earcandy for the masses just for money, because that is getting worse and worse).
people will forever be pushing the boundaries of music to make it so much more interesting. im really excited for this!

GREAT BAND, AMAGING

I rarely like the clean vox in metal music but these guys.... sweet jesus.
Lyrically the album is also golden. Good job!

This music video is so epic! Totally captivates the emotion of this song :D
FUUUUUUUUUUUCK! every time when the rhythm guitars in the 2nd chorus start chuggin that open power chord it gives me goosebumps! i still can't get over how it just sounds sooo much heavier lol
Sadly we have very little say on where we play, that is pretty much entirely up to the booking agent.
I just checked out all the bands you mentioned in your post - Voivod, etc. I couldn't stand to listen to more then a minute of each. It belongs in the era that it was created.
Welcome to 2013, we have Periphery. The evolution of the crap you pointed out.

Can´t belive that this song is one year old now. I remember myself celebrating this so heavy and luckily nothing changed till today
such good filming/editing for this video...
What releases? I'd love to check em out!
OMG ! Repeat and repeat and repeat again ! Holy shit .
one of the Best director ever
*Loved it.
That dude's got a powerful voice. I don't get why people don't like him.
Great Sound. As an old school metal fan, I like this young band and also Sylosis by the way I suggest Gojira for you all!
Thank you I will try them out but I think you're right in the sense that they might not be my style. I prefer a little melody as opposed to constant aggression. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
sick band, sick song, sick slapping.....nuff sed \m/
If it wasn't for Periphery, I'd still be scratching my balls all day thinking about what to do with my life x) .
Cant even stop listening to this
love the view of the planets at the start
You're absolutely right man. What a damn shame. Lets just hope there's enough kids out there listening to the good shit to keep it alive for awhile.
This is what I call perfection
Awesome.
one word : epic !!!!
The video is pretty damn sick.
one of the best music I've ever heard in this fuckin life
Grats on making a million! Djent forever!!
this band is sick, can't believe i haven't heard it before
one of the best sikth song evarrr
i love it
Kudos to whoever did the 3D work on this.
HOLY SHIT. AMAZING.
I donÄt care if you like djent or not, if the cleans are good or not, if there is too much chugging, if it is too progressive or the video looks like michael bay on lsd, I'm just here for the fat grooves of Matt Halpern... maaaan does that guy kill ! +Luemm3l The guitarists are going crazy over all three of them! My personal favourite is Mark, though. See: the rhythm guitar interlude in Ji. Hot damn.
His singing/screaming is amazing. Some people don't understand vocal range and talent.
glittery purple... the most metal of all colors!
Thank God Deftones brought these guys on tour with them! Got to see them open for them twice and am now fucking hooked! Bought this album at the Austin show!
I have a love\hate thing with this band but music arguments aside for a sec, this video is one the best ever made
YES! hahah i've thought that many times. same facial structure, eyes and look in general lol
Spencer is in beast mode in this video, badassery.
Sick video!
