I mean, in the 80's we had a fair amount of content like this from Afterschool Specials to Very Special Episodes of shows, to the moralizing aftershow tags of cartoons like G.I. Joe and MASK. But I agree that the skip-to-the-end instant karma of Dhar Mann does present an unrealistic view of how justice in the real world works. I feel proud that my teenaged children already realize what his videos are, and aren't, and can have a good chuckle at them.

My son watches the Darman videos and I figure there are far worse things that he could be watching on youtube so I don't mind him watching this but, you're right they're always cringeworthy. Somewhat like the P.S.A.'s or after school specials we had when we were kids, which were pretty corny. On second thought the after school specials had a valid and clear lessons that were far more understandable and relatable such as "Don't do drugs", "Don't talk to strangers" and "Don't bully".

I have watched Mann's videos on Facebook. I found them interesting but then I may have ran out of other things to watch on the Internet. The videos remind me of the stuff they showed us when I was in school in the early 70's. But, I was raised in the rural Midwest and they haven't caught up with the 21st century yet. Awhile back I watched a channel review one of these vids. I could not believe the way the presenter bought into it. It isn't real life yet some of these were reviewed with other content as if they were real. I had no idea that these were such a big thing and you are spot on with your analysis. There is no depth to these stories or characters and yeah, real life takes work.
What concerns me is the generation that absorbs this content believing this is how life is or should be. It's actually quite disturbing the more you think about it. Oh and I couldn't make it through an episode. To be open minded I tried to compare it to like eighties or nineties sitcoms, but those are repetitive. The characters are there awhile, long enough for people to identify with the characters or situations.
Great vid, I love that there is some legitimate content on TH-cam. I learn a lot from you and your vids. You present the facts in a concise and analytical way that is easy to understand. Thank you.

“Never Grow Old”: A great movie with John Cusack delivering one of his finest performances. Emile Hirsch also does a wonderful job as a prosperous mortician. The connection here is the most important link between Dhar Mann and the world we live in. While trying to find a fellow partner in crime, Cusack’s character tells the man’s wife: “Sometimes I think the world is a just a tissue of lies.” I have a feeling Dr. Grande will soon discover this truth and he might wonder why he wasted so much of his time with some of the worst individuals in a world filled with lies.

This thing with student going identity is going too far. There is a private school near me that is being sued by a set of parents because the school won't put a litter box in their child's classroom. No, there is not an actual cat as a class pet. So why a litter box and why are parents suing? It is because their child identifies as a CAT! This is a slippery slope!

Thank you Dr. Grande, Another carefully enunciated review of this Dar Man....I have never watched it nor care to, but as you convey this idea of morality that is presented seems to be vengeful and not realistic. As you outlined it would seem that this fellow who has been fraudulent in his past, seems to want to continue along that path but is fraudulent with peoples emotions and as you say, critical thinking. It would appear that money is important here to:this individual and I wonder if he will have regrets as well-soon enough. Dr. Grande I do enjoy your dry delivery of wit throughout your outlines and analysis,! Thank you for some logical and witty remarks! 🙂

That which you describe in Mann's videos is what I have come to recognize as " social justice ". A fairly ridiculous set of circumstances are presented in which someone does something to ostensibly cause outrage to the viewer. This person quickly gets his " comeuppance " in the form of some childish karmic kind of revenge. These scenarios are rampant on YT and other media sites, they all capitalize on the poorly formed reasoning capacity of children and are very popular among the short attention span audience.
This, no doubt, explains the popularity of his channel. A perceived wrong is " righted " in just a few minutes with no need for understanding the wrong, just the instant feel good of the payback.

I noticed my 11 year old sister started consuming his content at an alarming rate last year. I happened to watch a few videos with her on visits ti my parents’ house and the cringe was beyond anything a reasonable person could be expected to withstand. I took special exception to how he depicted women (read: gold diggers who’ll get what’s coming to them, even the little girls) but I figured I wouldn’t ruin it for her because she’s just a kid.
I then started to realize that he makes this content for a predominantly younger audience with the aim of informing morality, and that because she’s a child, she may not realize that it’s utter garbage and start to base her world view on what she was seeing being depicted on the screen. Eventually I sat her down and essentially told her that life doesn’t work remotely how he depicts it to, that people and situations are more nuanced, and recommended that she continued watching for entertainment purposes and not through the lens of trying to make sense of real world situations and human interaction. I don’t live with her, so I can’t be sure, but I sincerely hope she took my words to heart and doesn’t watch his videos as much anymore.
