      You live under a rock. Hidalgo come here to Cuba since the early eighties to learn. The Plena and bomba are quite boring and polo lican love rumba guanguanco cha cha cha el son, changui' mambo guaracha mambo charanga and timba . LOL
      BTYThere are thousands of percussionist here to a few polo licans no wonder it has to be celebrated . Schools around the world study cuban polyrhythms and percussion. Its been incorporated in big band since the 20s and made it way into popular music in the 50s rock and roll. No one is jealous of taino music. There is a reason polo licans don’t play plena to the world is utterly garbage . And Bomba is not unique to PR .

    Was so fortunate to see this incredible band in New Orleans in 1994 (maybe 1993?). Mongo came out and played Afro Blue. Incredible performance. So many of them have left us, now.

    • @mongofan1
      @mongofan1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jesusrivera743 ,Yeah, Mongo looked pretty frail as he walked onto the stage, but he played Afro Blue beautifully. I had the opportunity to meet Poncho Sanchez about ten years later and told him about that performance. He said I was very lucky to have caught it, that it was likely one of Mongo's last performances, as he was pretty certain Mongo retired later that year.
      I also got to see Patato at the Lincoln Center in NYC. He performed one piece at a remembrance of Tito Puente.

    Met Giovanni Hidalgo in 2010, and saw him kn my previous neighborhood a couple of times after that. I actually filmed him, its my channel. As a percussionist he is awesome. As a person, he is always coked up. Such a shame. I hope he stopped that because coke and diabetes do not mix. Now with a few amputations, it's sad.

Musicos como Chano Pozo Aguabella , Santamaria Patato Perazza Ponce y muchos mas tuvieron la opportunidad para echar pa’ lante en los Estados Unidos. Yo te entiendo mi hermano. Hay que lastima ….

      @@jesusrivera743 thats taino talk silly kid. Cuban bands have been influencing world music since the 1700s trova bolero conjunto danzon ( mexico and PR)
      The sugar boom brought the to the NY Texas Key West and New Orleans in 1810. You can hear the cuban tinge in country swing , new orleans Dixieland early american rock n roll even Flamenco incorporated cuban percussion in the 70s calling it Rumba , the dance shared in the SAmerican ports by cuban salors leading to tango which is basically a Cuban habanera
      All this stopped when the US blockade was established
      There is a reason you tainos dont play that plena garbage
      Everywhere in the world they hear cuban music every university in the world studies cuban music . The largest record label promoting publishing cuban music is in Germany.
      How many songs did poto licans take and changed the titles and lyrics from black cuban bands? Take a wild guess !

      @@jesusrivera743 youu sound like someone w food stamp poisoning. The awful commumist (Fidel) system made sure to bring in classical musicians from the Soviet Union that to this day sixty years later teach at the universities. That is the big difference. All of the Cuban pop musicians are multi instrumentalist , they can read abd write music , play hand percussion AND most importantly are classically trained. Unlike Poto jicans and columbians
