Great fusion of Soca and Kompa. I have to say the fusion of music these days are great when Caribbean artists all get together and make a great medley and recipe for this great genre of what we call Caribbean music! Whether if it’s infused with zouk, bouyon, kompa, afrobeats, Soca and reggae, dancehall, Indian, chutney Latin Afro Caribbean. All in all it brings out the best of what our Caribbean culture has to offer and is made, which is a mixture of everything all in one! Yes some might not be aware of the history of kompa, cadence, cadence-lypso, bouyon, zouk, Dennery segment, at the end of the day we have some talented artists out here and we must appreciate and embrace our great culture together not divided.
You are definitely only a few such as myself who know they caribbean genre's by heart.

Kompa has been fused with soca MANY times in the past, and french words have also been used in lyrics (from Machel when he was with "Xtatic", Destra, etc) just for those that don't know. Soca artists are able to mesh our lingo with ANY genrè and put de Trini twang on it... showing LOVE to our fellow French speaking fam! 😉
Exactly even burning flames always incorporated the creole sounds from the French islands into their soca songs. Zouk, Kompa etc.

It's a very insidious form of cultural appropriation because Kompa has greatly influenced the birth of zouk to start with. In fact, you can't even hear a zouk sound these days without it being heavily infused with Kompa Gouyad but they continue to call it Zouk without giving credit. It's one thing to appreciate and be inspired by Haitian music, that's fine. But it's another to appropriate the sound and then eclipse the creators from the naming of the genre.
