@@autogefuehl Yes I did, based upon your recommendation. I went with the Mineral White exterior, M Sport package with the cognac colored Sensafin seats. The seats are very comfortable, and we love the massaging feature.

I just don't see what BMW is doing with the design. Every car they've released recently has some flaw. G20/G21 LCI was exception here. Modern design does not mean that company needs to forget it's heritage (like headlights with some kind of "angel eyes" as DRL)...
How time flies, thi X7 is already 4 years on the market. I thought it was barely two years.
Great video. I find your content very informative. I think BMW should’ve made the front grill run vertical on the M3/4. And slanting the headlights balances out the front grill on the X7 and 7 series sedan.

I saw it in person and it looks much better than photos. Definitely has presence and much better than the Mercedes equivalent. I just don't love how BMW puts an M badge on everything now.
There's a deferential in the M badges. A M behind the number is the true M. A M in front of the numbers is just a sport appearance package. In the X5 for example X5M is the true M modification vehicle. X5 M60i is the X5 with the sport appearance package.

The interior build and material quality on this is impeccable. I spent some time in this and the GLS and the X7 feels like a much much more expensive vehicle. Even the 3rd row has leather armrests on the side and carpet all the way up the sides. The GLS is hard plastic. Same for the door panels and even just the general build quality.
Thomas I could only ever think of buying on of these when it was 3rd or 4th hand but I like the seats and the colour in grey

Well the 6 cyl offers better milage and range and is 175 kg lighter on the front axle. The V8 gives u more growling sound and a second faster in acceleration. I guess the six cyl makes more sense even if money doesn’t play a role

Hi Thomas. Thanks for yet another informative review. I am bout to receive my 2024 X7 40i (my 4th X7). Is there anyway to disable the auto Start/Stop? I noticed that there is no longer the "A" button in 2024. Can the dealer switch it off?
Thanks! Sadly not, that is mandatory by law. You can deactivate it in the infotainment or use sport mode, but it will be re-activated every ignition start

Side mirror placement obstructs forward diagonal views when turning. They should have placed them on the doors.
Which engine would you take in europe? 40i or 40d? I've got 40d on order but I'm on fence if I shouldn't go for petrol.

This symbolises everything that has gone wrong with BMW: big, ugly, heavy. 40 years ago they were a sports car specialist with good looking, nimble and driver-focussed cars
Tbh, the i like the facelift if the car is black, but on the white one like i ordered it must be without facelift it looks way better without it.
And the interior with the smaller screen & analog buttons fits me way better. Such a nice car. Another one in my collection of a hand full :)
Interestingly enough, the big grill and split headlights work on the X7 but not on the 7 Series. Perhaps it's the height and some differences in the shape of the grill and headlights that make it work on the X7.
Auto mfg's obsessions with cost cutting by removing physical climate dials and knobs is ridiculous.

Luckily we bought the original version X7 2 1/2 years ago. It’s super plush and comfortable while still being sporty, peppy and holding firm onto the ground on sharp turns. BMW really screwed up with that new fascia and copied Mercedes a little too much with the new dashboard. The X7 interior and dashboard was one of the reasons why we chose it over the GLS. The exterior between the X7 and GLS, we liked the X7 a little better, can’t tell that anymore. The modern shifter is hideous. The updated vents are very nice though. Great review!

LOL. 2023 model is better by orders of magnitude. Mild hybrid, anti roll bars, real axel steering, etc. The front fascia looks way better as long as you don’t get the black grill. 2019-20 X7s are so common they are literally everywhere. 2023 model is better in so many ways.
@@elwpta7830 2 1/2 years ago was 2020. We love the classic, most likely we will get another vehicle next time. Hope BMW doesn’t carry over this ugly design across the board.
One thing that always looks weird to me in modern BMWs is the steering wheel. Imo it looks really dated, like it wouldn't be out of place in a car from 2007. The iX remedies this slightly with the weird shape but it's not much better.

That green looks like it’s from Alpina range . Come on mate if you want look up trip computer on drivers screen controlled from the steering wheel. Am surprised don’t have camera rear view mirror like the Range Rover. Surely make sense .

Got to admire the psychology at work here. How to sell more X7s? Introduce the social pariah XM and then, in parallel, revamp the previous social pariah. Suddenly the X7 looks like the aesthetic preference.
And that green is lovely.
Unlike the new 7 series saloon, I think the bigger grille with the split headlights actually suite the X7.

Interesting that they didn't want to put that huge rear TV screen in the back like the 7 sedan has. It would make way more sense in this vehicle with two rows of people that could watch it.

9:03 ...this is why Audi has the best multi media. Showing exactly what you need: easy to find , less colors and screen buttons and menus , less clicks ,etc. Even it's on dark mode by default .
The tank class is definitely not my vehicle segment, but the design has evolved positively and I at least appreciate the attempt to not end up with a generic design as Mercedes currently delivers.
As for the exterior, the interior is great, though I'm not sure since when this touch-only design was considered luxurious. Sorry - I might still put up with something like this in a Volkswagen entry-level model or a French car that at least looks extravagant.
In a vehicle that costs more than 20k, I feel screwed with such inferior ergonomics. I don't buy something like that. When did cheap become luxurious?
Should I buy this or the Range Rover?
What would be helpful, although BMW would need to agree to it first I guess. Drop some chocolate on those seats. And a drop of two of drink. Rub it in a little to simulate somebody sitting on it. And then clean it off and show us how well the material stands up to it vs leather.

Front headlights are like on Citroen C4 Picasso
Horrible wind noise in my 2022 X7 M50i. BMW dealerships acknowledge it but can’t fix it. I’d avoid the X7 entirely.

I would put myself and family in it and roll it off the Bainbridge ferry mid-channel.
Totally agree that the inline 6 is the way to go, especially if you're planning on owning the car past warranty. Simply put, BMW knows how to make incredibly responsive and reliable 6 cylinder engines. They have - and this is coming from a lifelong fan considering his 5th BMW - NEVER made a reliable 8 cylinder and probably never will. The 8s feel and sound awesome!! ...when they are running. So, figure, 75% of the time after 50,000 miles.
Obviously there are some serious ups and downs with the new interior and front fascia but overall, I think, worthy as a replacement for my current Mercedes GLS.
The real question for me is... Do I still actually need a 3-row? If not, I'll save myself $30K, skip the X7 and even the X5, and spend my money on an X3M.

More for Bentley or Rolls Royce is worth... They help you stand out. Even Range Rovers would be considered more upmarket when compared to X7. Nothing against BMW though... I own one myself.
I don't believe I will be able to find a replacement for my 2015 MB S550 that looks as good inside and out, plus still has real buttons and knurled rollers as controls. It is almost 8 years old w/80K miles, and I rarely keep a vehicle this long after even the extended warranty has run out. The new S-class has too much piano black plastic, capacitive controls, and screens galore. It rides and drives very well, but so much money for a less desirable interior/exterior is not great. I am looking closely at this new X7 and the new 7 series sedan. More real controls and I may be able to get the great ride/noise comfort in a more practical SUV form that is still some fun to drive. The new 7 sedan may be too gaudy inside, like the new S class. Will wait until I see and drive it. I am even considering 2023 Genesis G90, but have to see it and drive it and get over the terrible dealer experience first. For the same $100K can get a really nice BMW X7.
Get the new 7 brother, it is way better than the new s class, an I’m a Mercedes guy

Laughed out when you mentioned US customers. SUVs here are getting bigger and bigger. You will find Yukon and Tahoe everywhere. Sadly, Manufacturers here should learn how to make a luxury, well handling SUV. Escalade V might be the only one they made, but 50k more than a X7 M60, plus dealer markups 🤦♂️

Great review thanks. Car is not my taste, the exterior styling is way too fussy and the whole approach seems to be based on more of everything is better. I prefer the simpler, calmer approach as in the the Volvo XC90 or new Range Rover.

As a former BMW fanboy and owner, I have no qualms with the performance of the modern BMW vehicles. However, the designers have lost the plot when it comes to the exterior and interior designs-I can no longer stick with the brand. I have flipped over to Audi.
BMW really excelled well when they introduced the X7, and they continue to do that. Great review !
