    I've had the Flame King system for quite some time now with 20+ 1 lb tanks. They worked well for quite some time then suddenly none of the 1 lb tanks would fill. I was stumped and couldn't figure out why. I assumed it was the refill adapter. I tested it without a 1 lb tank connected and liquid propane would come out just fine. After examining the 1 lb tanks I noticed one tank didn't have the plastic sleeve and O-ring in it. Looking at the refill adapter I found the sleeve and O-ring on the refill adapter nozzle. It came out of the 1 lb tank and wouldn't allow further refills. I now make it a practice to check the 1 lb tank for the sleeve and O-ring after each fill. Check your Flame King refill adapter for the missing sleeve and O-ring, you might just find it there.

    ALWAYS, without fail wear loose fitting thick gloves and eye protection when refilling the 1 lb tanks.
    I put a fresh 20 lb propane tank from one of the exchange places on the Flame King stand and connected the adapter and a 1 lb tank as usual. When I opened the valve on the 20 lb tank, a massive amount of liquid propane shot out from around the valve stem seal. I immediately attempted to shut it off but it was already so cold that my leather glove was frozen to the knob and my fingers were really cold in matter of no time. I assume they didn't check that seal for leaks after refilling the tank. At the rate the liquid propane was coming out it most likely didn't have a seal in at all. If I hadn't been wearing gloves it would've been my fingers frozen to the knob. Replacing that seal and checking for leaks should be a mandatory process when the 20 lb tanks are refilled.

    The real issue is that both Flame King and Mr Heater use a proprietary system to fill their tanks instead of using a normal standard propane fill valve. Unfortunately you have to commit to either one system or the other if you decide to go with these tanks and then stick with only that valve setup. If you are already invested in flame king, I'd probably skip mr heater at this point unless you want to buy both the bottles and the fill adapter.

    I have a BSME degree and worked in many product designs and high volume manufacturing since 1984. It looke like the inner plastic sleeve retention might be THE Achilles heel for this design. I suggest you reconnect with your company contact and ask them to prove/show how this issue is going to be addressed 100% of the time and that change will last over the lifetime of this products usage. Since the plastic sleeve is obviouly inserted into the hole after the shcrader valve is installed, it could easily be held in place with a proper temperature range adhesive and posibly implemented with minimum product design changes - just some factory automation additions. If they don't nip this issue in the bud they will ruin this Product's reputation before it even gets started. That would be too bad becasue there is a huge and growing market out there for such a thing

    • @3RiversFishingAdventures
      @3RiversFishingAdventures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I agree 100%. The flame king tanks are the same design and I think it's made that was so you can replace the rubber o ring (that is seated below the sleeve) in a fairly easy.

I have a Flame King filler and tanks coming but I will probably buy a Fuel Keg filler and tanks too. I will remember to use the correct filler with each of the tanks.

    *Question : does your Fuel Keg's wobble ? Because mine do !*
    I just bought three of these from Walmart and discovered upon returning home that the bottom ring that acts as the stand, which has all the DOT info stamped into it are less than stellar welding. Meaning they wobble standing up right, one egregiously so and the other two not near as much but still not flat....

  • @dannyolivarus1801

    Interesting. I wonder if bleeding the air off causes less pressure/ less fills in the long run I've done the disposable for years and can only get around 14 from a 20 lb tank. Hopefully you'll test that next

    • @3RiversFishingAdventures
      @3RiversFishingAdventures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the biggest variance is how full your 20lb tank is. If you are doing exchanges like most people do at the local convenience store, you aren't getting a full 20lb tank and in fact is usually closer to 15lb. It's always a better value to have your 20lber refilled manually at a proper refill station where you will get a full 20lbs (maybe just not as convenient though).

    • @originaLkomatoast
      @originaLkomatoast 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yes, it does. When I refill a 1 lb tank I don't open the vent valve until I no longer hear any propane transferring into the tank and the pressure has equalized. When I do open it up a little it only takes a few seconds for the liquid propane to start coming out. It saves a lot of gas doing it that way.

    • @3RiversFishingAdventures
      @3RiversFishingAdventures  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The only time it will bleed off is when it's hooked up to the actual filler valve. The filler valve has an extra pin in it that actuates a pin inside the tank neck (for filling only).

I looked up propane tanks again, and it seems the reason for not leaving the tank on it's side or upside down is because of the safety valve, if inverted and the safety valve releases pressure for whatever reason, liquid propane will be released, which can cause a much bigger fire than vapor which would be released if the tank was right side up.

      They will lose business over their propiertary filler. At least mine.
      Added 4/10/23
      I now realize that having the post on filler allows the valve to accept fuel. If this was not part of this new system, when you open bleed valve, gas would escape if not connected to a filler or appliance. So, if it got bumped or a child turned the valve with it not attached, that would present a hazardous condition. This new design allows for tooless refilling vs having the allen wrench for the FlameKing. That’s the difference and price to pay for convenience of going tooless filling.
