Enyobeni Mass Funeral I Procession carrying empty coffins on route to Scenery Park Sports Ground

- Two of the 21 patrons who tragically died at the Enyobeni Tavern in East London will be buried today.
19 empty coffins have just been transported to the Scenery Park Sports Ground where the funeral service will take place.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to attend the service.
Forensic investigators are still examining the evidence that led to the deaths last month.

Instead of the waist of money to carry empty coffins I would rather give the money to the families. I don't think each of these 19 vehicles, plus drivers, would cost less than R 8.000 each.

Why using empty coffins? I have never seen this! Usually funeral ceremonies are conducted without the coffin and the burial is done afterwards! For example, for the late Zulu King and the Queen, their burials were conducted at the previous night and in the morning of the following day the ceremonies were made. It is not acceptable to spend a lot of money for 19 vehicles carrying empty coffins.

We raised the issue of the money spent for empty coffins and then it will cost again for the burials' transport. When funerals are paid by the state we use to see people using it for personal benefit. Remember the people implicated in MADIBA's funeral expenses? Do you remember that BISHOP DESMONF TUTU said he didn't want the State to spend even one cent for his funeral? Now, it seems you agree with this action for some reason. Tell us why you do not agree that instead of spending huge some of money to transport empty coffins, it would not be preferable to assist the families with this money.

This is assuming families have different burial arrangements planned for their children. However, this is more of a memorial service so it’s easier doing it that way.

The reason for 19 instead of 21 coffins is the fact that 1 teen was buried a day before and the second was to be buried a day after so it was going to be an inconvenience to the family.
