Thanks for posting this episode! I remember seeing it and saddened that Margo McKenna was leaving. Emily was a very sweet character when first introduced the previous year and April was more than good to her once she fell apart mentally. However, Emily became a malicious and selfish character after coming out of her catatonic state by trying to manipulate everyone that she was carrying Draper's child. Her lie cost others to go through hell. Margo McKenna really did a great job of showing malice and anger here--so different from when she was a sweet character the year before. I was disappointed I never saw MM on television after her last episode on EON. I didn't watch the show much after this storyline ended.
I wonder if Slesar ever planned to bring Emily back into the story if he had brought Draper and April back down the road ... who knows ... but that scene was a nice fitting closure to the anguished April-Draper-Emily triangle.
I expected to hear the announcer say, "The role of Nicole Cavanaugh is now being played by Lisa Sloan". That was and is usually standard practice in soaps when a character changes actors. I wonder why Edge didn't acknowledge the change?
I liked how Miles said, "Let me get a good look at you," almost like he was indicating to the audience that there as a new actress. But I miss those announcements when they don't do them.
I love it when Draper hands delusional Emily the "Oxygen in use" sign that Sharkey used in the clinic so him and Emily could get intimate, as they say.
@@MrCraigblaze I hated her from the very first, too ... she was a scheming liar all the way back to the train wreck ... hey, did they ever figure out what (or should I say who) caused that train wreck?? I hated Molly just almost as much (both of them)!
Emily was a terrible woman to use her unborn baby as a weapon to drive a wage between Draper and April. Good thing they found out the truth that she’s really carrying Matt Sharkey’s child.
Now a days I think nut job Emily would be considered a seriously dangerous stalker and Draper and April would be advised to not have any communication with her.
HODJ PODJ Not to be provocative but I always found Maeve McGuire rather overrated. Jayne Bentzen was quite the opposite; she was the victim of unfortunate timing, being a recast for a beloved actress. Sometimes I think they could have placed Elizabeth Taylor in the role and even she would have gotten hate from Edge diehards who only see McGuire as the Nicole character.
+telephotousa Agreed that Bentzen faced a tough challenge in immediately following McGuire. Sloan benefited from arriving years later--and after a long break post Bentzen (w/ Nicole off screen for several months in Key West). A similar break post McGuire might have eased the transition to Bentzen, whose introduction seemed abrupt and mishandled.
I forgot that Derek and Raven almost married! I liked Lisa Sloan better than Jayne Bentzen. I didn't see enough Maeve McGuire episodes to be attached to her. I liked the stronger Nicole that LS played. Is this Gunther really Bruno? I was always so confused by which one was which? David Froman was great in this role! The supporting players on TEON of this period were extraordinary!
I second your comment. I really preferred Lisa Sloan. Jayne Bentzen got on my nerves so often with her whining about this or that when playing Nichole. I know storyline was involved but Lisa Sloan just had a much more appealing presence.
You mention Derek and Raven being an item. I didn't know how much of a story line they had until I watched these episodes on here. I did hear Sharon Gabet (Raven) was scarred to death that she may have gotten HIV from Dennis Parker (Derek) because of their kissing scenes and the little that was known about AIDS at the time. I don't know if he had been diagnosed at this time but he had done a lot of adult movies. Can't blame her for her concern after seeing the kissing scenes and what was known then.
@@edgefan4437 I have never seen Sharon Gabet say this. I read a VERY LONG piece about Dennis Parker and Sharon did not once mention being terrified. She did say that when he got sick and died, they really didn't know much about AIDS, and her kissing scenes with him were about three years before he died.
@@sbookey OK, I could be wrong but like you said they didn't know much about AIDS in the very early 80's so if Sharon was concerned about her kissing scenes with Dennis, it wouldn't be unusual. I don't think I said she said anything about it on here but I remembering hearing it somewhere that she was concerned about it and somewhat freaked out when so many people were getting sick with AIDS in the mid 80's.
It seems the Emily story just ended...when I think there was more mileage to her. She finds out April's pregnant again with Draper's baby..and doesn't do anything about it?
Outside of causing April to miscarry, what COULD she do? And a blood test will prove Draper is not her baby's father. She had no other connections to anyone to keep a viable story going. Also, I wonder if at this point the show knew that the actors playing Draper and April were leaving.
And so ends the last appearance of Emily (Margo McKenna) and the last vestige of the train crash/Draper/"Kirk Michaels" saga with it. I liked the Emily character. She starts out as a innocent and naïve girl who thought she'd found her long lost husband- you actually feel legitimately sad for her when April and Draper finally reunite...but from then forward she has a mental breakdown and turns evil (with help from equally cracked Molly Sherwood). Did Margo do much of anything post-Edge?
Bring this show back
I wish Edge of Night could come back TV on of my all time favorite soap❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊

She was on As the world turns at one point after this.
What’s sadder is this is not to much longer for Tony Craig and Terry Davis. They were gone by the later part of the summer of 1981.
I think McKenna was dropped because of the story line
And this was the very first episode rerun on the USA Network in 1985. I remember being so excited that it was being brought back, even if in reruns.
Yes.. The good old days of the old USA network !! XD
The wee hours of August 6, 1985, to be exact, rockhopper10r---at midnight 🕛 Eastern on USA 🇺🇸 Network.
This is the Nicole I love. Never got to see her first appearance.
This would have been Lisa Sloan's second appearance. A few weeks earlier Miles had called the Caribbean and Miles and Nicole had spoken on the phone.
creepy, creepy Emily.
That penthouse elevator situation always made me uncomfortable and now we see exactly why!

Emily left Monticello in disgrace.

Nice to see Emily get what she deserves. She just refused to let go of someone who could not care less about her.
Emily is majorly delusional and needs to get a life.
Who COULD care less about her . xd
@@edgefan4437 And then some.. xd
Emily came back to Edge recently
Enter Lisa Sloan, the new Nicole. Good enough actress but I liked Jayne Bentzen better.
+telephotousa Bentzen brought more glamour, more elegance to the role than did Sloan though neither actress could match Maeve McGuire's Nicole.

I liked Jayne Bentzen too. Her and Joel Crothers had such good chemistry together. I only wish they had more time together .
I liked Jayne Bentzen too. I wished she had come back after her illness.
How brain dead was Derek to want to marry Raven? 😅
They were both out of each other’s league, but Raven was in a league of her own.
