a friend of mine asked BB King to dedicate this song to me during a concert because my wife had recently died.... he replaced the first "the thrill" with my wife's name and gave me a nod. still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it. love that man.
I'm so genuinely sorry. That is one pain I would never wish on anyone. I hope you can find peace and happiness in your life to hold you over til you meet her again in the afterlife.
I was 14 my parents sent me to a farm in St. Louis I was only white boy in Kansas in 1966 to dig this song, Then I listened to James Brown, Muddy Watters, James Cotton, I started played playing blues.......
B.B. was never a flashy player. This guy put everything into every note he played, which I can say from experience, is like running with weights. He suffered from arthritis later in life, which is crippling to a guitarist. I love this guy. R.I.P. King of the Blues 💙
Absolutely! Like the intro to Blues Boy's Tune. Those 5 notes are just.. Perfect. So much feel and soul into everything BB touched. He was a true legend
He said in an interview once that he didn't know as many notes as a lot of other guitarists, so he had to play the ones he did know real well. BB's one of those guys who you don't just hear the music, you feel every note right along with him.
I took a history of rock n roll class in college ( Indiana university) BB was a special guest speaker. All I remember is he brought his guitar named Lucille and played a few songs. Closest I’ve ever been to a celebrity RIP BB
You haven't suffered until you had a cassette player in your car eat your favorite tape and you had to wind it back up using a pen or pencil in the holes of the tape while you untangle it and hope it isn't broken. And BB King is just cool. You can see the joy in what he does in h8s eyes when he talks about it in interviews. People like him who have found that inner light and have a way of expressing it artistically are treasures. I saw him in Chattanooga in the 90s.
Cool, knew Brad would like BB King, BB is the reason I started playing guitar all those decades ago, those soulful vibes had me hooked the first time I heard them, I'm gonna have to get back to my musical roots and play some blues again, there's also Freddy King and Albert King, great blues guitarists from the same era of Blues.
BB King has different levels at which he plays. As he aged he kept it real simple with the amount of notes he would play, but none the less he told a story with his playing. He's so well known by guitar players, that he even has his own box (pattern on the guitar where solos are conjured from, called the BB King box. 🙂He's been looked up to by all the great master guitar players, no matter what genre of music you play and what instrument you play. He's the master of taking just a few notes and making the listener go to another place as he tells his story with the guitar. And Oh, yeah, he sings excellent too.
This is one of those songs that when I turned 50 became far more relevant. Even though it's about a relationship, it's just as much about life. When you've seen too many of your family, friends and even pets pass away something just doesn't feel the same.
If someone doesn’t like this song .. they don’t have a soul … or they’re heartless.. what a masterpiece.. I don’t know what has more emotion .. more beautiful pain in it .. his guitar playing or his singing…🔥❤️
Guys, I'm 65 and I've been into music my whole life. I think we all have a genre of music that just "speaks" to us. You may have found your inborn musical "language" with this song Brad. As a guitarist I've found that one of the great things about the blues is the REQUIREMENT for expression and emotion in your playing so there's a limit to how fast you can play and still bring that emotion. U ought to pick up an inexpensive guitar/amp combo and try it for yourself. Just plug in some headphones so your girl don't kick you out
@@stanflahaut1893 Can't disagree Stan. It's just that the heart and soul of blues is emotion so by design there's more room for it. Listen to Gary Moore do Still got the Blues for You and you'll see what I'm getting at. BTW, Petrucci is a GOD
The blues!!!!! Word to y’all for reacting to the blues. She would love the blues. A lot of bass playing and head moving moment opportunities. You’d like it also kind Sir.
Hey what's up guys! Greetings from South Florida! BB King never played fast or flashy. But as soon as he hit one note you know it was him. Love me some Blues boy King. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
I had the privilege of hanging out with BB for a few days as I produced a video for his 80th Birthday celebration, homecoming, and ribbon cutting of his museum in his hometown of Indianola, MS. He was one the nicest people I have ever known. He treated me like an old friend who he had known for years. I loved the man.
YES!!!!! I haven't heard this song in SO long... and to see you two react the way you did to it, makes it all the sweeter!!!!💙💙💙 (Esp. Brad on this one...)
The sweeeeet tones of BB King and Lucile can't be denied 😊 Brad & Lex, welcome to the blues. All electric rock guitar comes directly from the blues. Listen to Sister Rosetta Tharp and then listen to Chuck Berry and early Elvis. ✌❤🇨🇦
I met BB King in 2006 on his tour in Europe ... and I was invited to his concert! Wow! Maybe the best blues (!) concert I've ever been to! What a nice guy he was ... my favourite song is the instrumental "Blue Boys Tune". You need to check it out by time! ♥
To say that BB King was a master at his craft is a drastic understatement. To see him play live was to hang on every note and word. I have seen many great acts in my 51 years but none were riveting like BB was. You wouldnt just hear the blues, you felt it in your soul. Brad, so glad you found the Blues, keep diving in on the greatest musical journey you could ever imagine!
Brad & Lex - there is a great video of BB King & Eric Clapton together playing 'Riding with the King'. It is well worthy of a reaction! Although it seems the song was written just for them to sing & play guitars together, it was actually written 20 years before and likely written about Elvis. BB & Eric made it their own. The album by the same name won them a Grammy.
So many great guitarists made a point of playing with BB King. I think BB King enjoyed that almost as much as the other guitarists. Admiration of your peers is a wonderful thing.
Had not seen my Mom for 3 years. While visiting I Took her to see him live on St.Valentine's day.1986 at a small venue, an old converted movie theater. West Palm beach Fl. At one point during the show he was telling a story , an twanged a string on his guitar. Causing a mature woman to scream out, Oh BB don't do that to me. I ben watching ya'll for over a year, an this is my favorite one yet.
Saw B.B. at a blues festival in STL. He did the first song standing and the rest of the show in a chair due to arthritis/diabetes. Still an awesome performer!! Threw picks to the crowd after every song. We were in the balcony😪
I saw him in concert several times. The last time I saw him was with Buddy Guy. The older B.B. King got the more he talked and the less he played. So you got a history lesson with some music. If you want to see a wonderful duet, check out B.B.King and Buddy Guy singing "Stay Around A Little Longer."
I love his guitar work! I saw him at The Rock, Rhythm, and Blues festival about 20 years ago in Toledo,Oh. Great blues to listen to on a lazy Sunday morning while ya move about your house, sipping coffee. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
We took a random trip to Tunica and then up to Beale St to listen to some live jams. We ended up at B.B.'s bar/club shortly after midnight and it was killer even though there was no sign of the man/ the Iegend. Right around last call the music died down to a quiet solo and a voice pops up saying BB was in the house and anyone willing to stay locked in after 2am would get a free concert from BB and free well drinks. I don't think a single person left. It was packed until 8am when they could legally open the doors again... I literally felt like I had finished off a quarter ounce by time 8am rolled around, soooooooo damned smooth...
Alright!!!! The real deal. BB was driving a tractor. He gave it up to play the Blues. A long road. In the 60s, the rock guitarists knew he was the real thing and the booking agents started putting him on the rock bills. He finally got the success and recognition he deserved. Blues is about feeling and soul. You can hear the emotion in his playing. Blues guitar is the basis for rock and roll
Saw him twice in the 70/80s. His shows with a small tight horn section were a full on TIGHT ROCKING as could be had on the planet!!! U guys need to seek out the remaining blues artists n SEE THEM WHILE I CAN!! Time is ticking!
About 30 years ago I lived in Vegas. A friend of mine called me up and said " hey BB King and the Neville Brothers" are playing tonight out at Primm. That's what they use to call a little town at the Nevada and California state line. There was 2 little hotel casinos there. And one had a little music hall. It sat maybe 100 people. Anyway I went and picked him up and we drove out there. We went up to the window to get tickets, $18.50 can you believe that. Anyway the girl at the window says " if you guys want to come tomorrow night Joe Cocker is playing and it will only be half price if you buy your tickets right now" well shit how can someone pass that up. Both concerts were great.
Now your entering a realm where my heart lives! Nothing beats the Blues and few do it as good as Mr. BB King. We only have 1 living legend of Blues still walking among us and that Mr. Buddy Guy. You should check him out as well.
Awesome!!! You did the right version. B.B. in his prime. He was great 10 years ago; but this is magic. I love his voice. I love the orchestra, and the production.
You should watch b.b. King do this song for almost the very last time in his life with Stevie Wonder live on stage at the 25th anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert 2009. Also here's a few things you have absolutely got to listen to from Emerson Lake and Palmer: Lucky man, still you turn me on, Toccota, fanfare for the common man(live video on TH-cam), and the ENTIRE album of Pictures at an exhibition. The drummer is best in the world, he keyboardist is best in the world, and singer has voice as close to perfect as you can get. Do yourself a great favor and listen to ELP.
I saw BB King a couple times at big venues like auditoriums and I really like his music. Later I had the opportunity to see him at a small to medium size club and I was amazed. Every note that he played seemed like it exploded from his guitar, totally different experience.
This isn't so much a break up song as a healing after a break up song. It's what you listen to and think about when you are trying to calm down and start putting you life back together. You can't dance to it, it doesn't fire up the crowd at a football game, it doesn't make you want to challenge the speed limit while you travel across country, B.B. King's guitar work doesn't make you want to play air guitar ... you just stop and think about how sometimes life hurts but you have to go through it.
I remember this, as a child, hearing it on the radio, and thinking it really something reassuring somehow, feeling all the musicians, and BB carrying through with blues so right!
When I was watching you react to Gary Moore and you two said "you didn't know blue's had electric guitars" I wrote a comment giving you a load of crap "You've never heard of B. B. King." I was giving you guy's hell. The Thrill is gone oh he was the Master of electric guitars and blue's. And after Gary Moore it went to your next reaction. B. B. King the thrill is gone. So I took my giving you the riot act comment down. I used to have ttig as my ring tone when I became a senior citizen 7 year's ago this April 16th. My Dad's 89 this may and he told me his thrill wasn't gone. So I changed my ringtone back to a regular ring. 🇺🇲🤯🤔😜🌴🐊🌞☮️
This was one of the first blues tunes that got me into the proper blues! I bought the BB King triple cassette boxette album greatest hits or something had about 60 of his songs on it, bought that and Garry Moore's Still Got The Blues album, Eric Clapton and some others think Guns n Roses use your Illusion 1&2 and Prince The Hits 1&2!- back in 1992 up in HMV Oxford Street, in west-end of London! (day out with my mates) I was only in my mid teens, they were looking at all the vinyl and cassettes of all the chart music of the day and there's me over in the blues and rock and metal sections lol 😂🤣 (They had no clue what I was looking at,!) Anyhow great reaction videos cheers from London England 👍😎🏴 Ps. You should listen to 'Albert King' - 'Stormy Monday'! (live/in session) Great tune!!! 👍😎
As the great Larry Carlton said: One note from B.B. is better than what most guitarists can play all night long. Please listen to "How Blue Can You Get", from B.B. King Live at Cook County Jail. Oh man!
Blues is about what's not being played. The pause or space in blues guitar is bringing the story and emotion. BB is telling the story while not talking.
As a guitarist something from one of his interviews in a guitar magazine stuck with me all these years later: It's better to practice 10 minutes a day than one hour a week. I've tried to apply that to most everything I'm learning and its been great advice!
I love BB. Saw him perform so many times before he died. He was so awesome to watch live. So expressive. Please do more BB King like Caldonia” or “Paying the Cost to be The Boss”
BB, who influenced so many rock guitarist, taught the jazz players a lot about placing the right notes in the right places and not overplaying. He was a musical genius, a kind and gentle man and a true treasure to humanity. RIP BB King.
I'm always fascinated by the way Lex's mind works in terms of logic - it's definitely not linear, and it usually doesn't adhere to the chronology that other people are following as they have a conversation. It's really quite appealing in many ways.
When I was a kid, B.B.King would be on the tonight show. Even though it was on late at night, I had to stay up to see and hear this man play the blues. Love the blues.
BB playing this song was my first taste of real blues too. A peerless player. Saw him in '75, unforgettable, sheer elegance, a real gent with a fantastic big band. He really didn't play chords, just let Lucille sing, he had a rhythm player who'd been with him for years.
I have actually played with BB King in Memphis no less. Along with a few hundred other people from high school marching bands from around the state but still pretty cool I can say that. It was at the 1999 Liberty Bowl Halftime show.
This song is a classic, and has been covered by many artists, in many styles. One of my favorite versions is a bluegrass version by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman and Grisman's backup band. It is really worth checking out, and might just turn you on to another cool music form, bluegrass.
Somewhere on TH-cam there's an amazing duet between the great man and the legendary rock/blues guitarist Gary Moore. Both have sadly now moved on but were absolute masters of their instruments. Legends both of them in every sense of the word. I'd LOVE you both to react to that too.
This is very different kind of Blues to the Muddy Waters I just watched you react to. Much smoother. Saw BB twice in 97 and 98, he was frigging awesome both times.
a friend of mine asked BB King to dedicate this song to me during a concert because my wife had recently died....
he replaced the first "the thrill" with my wife's name and gave me a nod.
still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.
love that man.

I met Buddy Guy in line at Wendy's!! Great story and glad you got to feel BB King's presence in person!
Wow!
Fantastic! What an experience.
Although the concept of "rock n roll class" makes no sense short of "strap it on and rock", that's very cool!
I took a similar course at the same university but I wasn't fortunate enough to have to have that kind of experience. How cool!
Ah, the sweet sounds of "Lucille" (BB King's guitar) and that incredible style he brought to all of us. RIP to the legend!
So much rock is based in the blues.
You're getting into the blues now Brad. You just sit back, relax with your favorite drink and LISTEN. Thanks for the Gary Moore tune.
The blues doesn't appeal to your mind or your heart, it either grabs you by the gut, or it doesn't grab you at all.

I saw him play live in Tokyo, with Lucille of course. Amazing performer.

BB King's blues were healing.

BB's lead guitar riffs layered over that funky rhythm bass guitar.... biscuits and gravy baby

So I took my giving you the riot act comment down. I used to have ttig as my ring tone when I became a senior citizen 7 year's ago this April 16th. My Dad's 89 this may and he told me his thrill wasn't gone. So I changed my ringtone back to a regular ring. 🇺🇲🤯🤔😜🌴🐊🌞☮️
My wife surprised me with tickets to see him, man what a show that was!
(day out with my mates) I was only in my mid teens, they were looking at all the vinyl and cassettes of all the chart music of the day and there's me over in the blues and rock and metal sections lol 😂🤣 (They had no clue what I was looking at,!)
Anyhow great reaction videos cheers from London England 👍😎🏴
Ps.
A true legend before they die is rare but BB King made it look easy. He influenced so many performers that it can't be counted.
EVH & BB. KING will both be remembered as great guitarists
BB King had the rare ability to make the space between the notes every bit as important as the notes themselves.
OMG!! B.B. King, this man is the blues to the core. He makes a person feel the pain.
This is one of those songs on a fairly short list of songs I could listen to on repeat forever.
BB playing this song was my first taste of real blues too. A peerless player. Saw him in '75, unforgettable, sheer elegance, a real gent with a fantastic big band. He really didn't play chords, just let Lucille sing, he had a rhythm player who'd been with him for years.
Wow right at the end you can hear another guitars through in a little riff that is so cool
Classic gotta love BB King
BB King is one of the greatest. Next dive into Born Under a Bad Sign by Albert King. Another classic blues guitarist. I think you'll enjoy it Brad.
👏👏👏👏
BB is a guitar icon. Fabulous touch and dynamics...and a killer vibrato too!
great stuff man, BBKING was an absolute legend sad he's gone
Somewhere on TH-cam there's an amazing duet between the great man and the legendary rock/blues guitarist Gary Moore. Both have sadly now moved on but were absolute masters of their instruments. Legends both of them in every sense of the word. I'd LOVE you both to react to that too.
An iconic song and artist.Id like to know how many top guitarists got to share a stage with him and play this song with him.
This is very different kind of Blues to the Muddy Waters I just watched you react to. Much smoother. Saw BB twice in 97 and 98, he was frigging awesome both times.
BBKing & Bobby Blue Bland Let the good times roll really good. BBKing was legendary.🌴✌️
