      I have the JBL EON 615 and they sound great. The one DJ told me they sound better the the older EV's. They do get very warm but work and sound great. This is Derek Rentschler again if any one is wondering. Also that is my other youtube channel name as well. I did do a sound test. In the video I could not crank them out to much because I was in a neighborhood.

      For the price point you honestly can't beat them I've seen people on TH-cam saying they have very similar quality to ev speakers which i guess is a good thing i honestly don't know why people hate on them if you treat them well they will treat you for years to come

The price is great for such quality. I recommend saving a little more to buy this beauty. All the best!

    Definitely agree with you on your #1. The quality the EV brand makes is fantastic. I had Gemini 450X's back in the day. Those things weighed 75 pounds each, the ZLX's weigh under 50 pounds each. But the sound is much better, and very little static when adjusting the gain to as high as possible.

The Sonos speaks are really good for the voice is getting lost in the room when the music is pumping. Question: what would you guys advise for a stereo pair speakers that can be mixed with a wireless mic and can receive music over Bluetooth (Spotify, etc)

    Have you tried Alto TS315 by any chance? Would you recommend them as a contender on this list?

    • @Brian_P
      @Brian_P 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Way late comment but.. I bought Alto ts212's years ago. I was on my way to buy EV tops and subs used from a guy, stopped at guitar center to buy cables. While I was in the store I remembered I was at a outdoor wedding and the music was coming from a little 8 inch Alto and I was blown away by the sound. I asked the salesman about altos and said I'd possibly buy Alto 15's and he said.. bet you won't. He told me the 12's have better bass. He was right. I had him play the alto 12's back to back with the EV I was about to buy. In my opinion the altos blew the EV out of the water clarity wise. I loved them.. the weak spot is the horn driver. I was playing music for about 2hrs at an outdoor event pushing them pretty good. The announcer arrived and I hooked up his wireless mic and he got out about 3 words and the horn drivers blew 😮. Luckily I had a backup just took a min to switch out. I ordered JBL drivers that were like 3 times the size and 4 times the price at about 100$ a piece but I figured might as well spend a little extra money to help bulletproof them a little. Works great great clarity still and been running ever since with no problems. The only thing i think I may do is put some thread tape or a dab of low strength thread locker on the driver's to keep them tight. I'd rather do that than risk breaking the plastic horn over tightening the driver. I thought the woofer blew on one of the speakers because it was rattling and really sounded like a blown woofer. It wound up being the horn driver loosened up and was buzzing and rattling with the base. I still run them today from time to time. My main rig now is a grind audio 18 powered sub with amplification for two tops built in. Got a couple Yamaha club series off an auction for a bar that closed.. do like 50 bucks haha. The MSRP was like 800 a piece for them. Put in new speakon jacks in them and the package sounds phenomenal! Just need to put handles pole mounts and rubber feet on them. They are club series and we're originally flown so they don't have anything to make them portable as they were flown originally.

    if my budget was around the price of one if these speakers (300/400), should i buy one or would it be better to get a pair of smaller/cheaper ones? in other words is it essential to buy these types of speaker in a pair or is it alright to just use a single one?

    I started with a 2nd hand set of DB audio 15" operas. they were good for speaking engagements but not a whole lot else because of prior abuse. so i went immediately for the Mackie thump sub and a set of 12" tops. I have a table that i custom made to direct the sub when its for a dance floor. the last wedding I did I had at least 6 couples come up to me and specifically complement the sound quality. they do need a slight eq but brilliant if you know how.

      web but I’ve had all series and sizes of alto from 10s to 18s...they have great sound for the most part but they have embarrassed me a couple of times... I had the horns go out simultaneously almost ...woofers have failed also...speakers ran at 12:00 once at a big Christmas party they failed...I limped through sounding like a 1980s cassette tape apologizing all the way ...I was sick ...the next day I bought two barely used qsc kw 152s at guitar center for 1200 bucks a great deal ...most had them the same condition at 1000 bucks a piece ...I was hooked after that... soon followed k12.2s...2 kw 181s and 1 cp12 for wedding ceremonies... I’m saying all that to say ...I got real serious about my sound and my business after that last budget speaker disaster.

A novice or quote unquote beginner could damage a lower cost speaker faster than a high cost speaker that has thermal and limiting protection.. great videos Glad to see you spinning those rane twelves.

    Great Quality Content As Always Rick !!!!
    Can you do a video on "DJ Add On's "
    And whether or not the overall money investment is worth it. And how can we DJ's get full money return on these add on's from clients. Examples... Photo booths, Cold Sparklers, Monograms, Dancing on the cloud, Fog & Bubble Machines, Pipe and Drape, Additional Lighting... Etc
    Thanks

      Will do. A lot of that has to do with your market. Certain areas of the world can sell things a lot easier then others

      Thanks For Responding !!!!
      I live in Upstate New York. So some of those add on's up here are hit & miss LoL
      But I recall hearing from a previous video your thoughts on photo booths and you said " their crap and not worth the investment"
      Which I agree as well. Which is why I'm only invested in a "Do-It-Yourself Selfie Station"
      Where I'm only providing the pipe and drape for the background. The props, and some additional lighting. And I just have clients use their cell phones with a selfie stick that I provide.
      So far everyone loves it

    I Just received my JBL EON615 Today but unfortunately before watching your top 5 video! Since I purchased it directly from JBL they will allow me to return it because I did not even power it up. Do you suggest I go with the EV ZLX 15BT Or keep the EON 615? Keep in mind I am just looking for a quality sound for my pole barn garage. I Paid 400.00 for the EON 615 but I still need to buy the alto professional total XR bluetooth receiver for 60.00 in order to stream music to it.

    Hey guys can anybody here help my i am looking for a single Powered 15" speaker that i can couple aka daisy chain with a single passive 18 inch sub for a 50-100 people venue that will fill the area with enough bass and be ready to get hammered all night cause it will be for a karaoke setup at a local Bar and yeah my options are...
    EV ZLX15P
    JBL EON 615
    JBL PRX835(expensive as hell and higher league but that's the point i want a very full bassy sound and think this might be the best option as of right now)
    any help or suggestions on setups i did not mention here etc. would be appreciated.

    Rick, shame on you for speaking your opinion on your channel! How dare you! /sarcasm for those that cannot spot it in text.
    Anywhoo, Rick, I am a beginner DJ who started in the summer of 2018. I started with a pair Harbinger VARI V2215 back then and still have them. Like you said, they are serving their purpose, but I am afraid they will soon fail, being 2 years old and all. Like you said, I have babied them to this day.
    I am looking to purchase much better speakers. I am looking at the EV ELX200-15P and the JBL PRX815W. I am leaning towards the PRX due to them being discounted at $150 atm. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both are great options. I would go listen to them in person if you have a chance and make the call off that

    • @Gitiffan
      @Gitiffan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DJRickWeb I ended up going with the PRXs. They both sounded good, but to me the PRXs seemed to have a bit more headroom at higher volume. Plus the discount, I had to jump at that for sure!
      Although those EVs rocked the low end very nicely, I already have a decent sub in the EV ELX200-18SP. I know some will knock me for not going EV for the match, but the set up sounds great! As a beginner DJ, I can't complain...hehe.
      Thanks for the reply Rick! I like your channel and content! Keep them awesome vids coming!

    • @spiritualFlavaRadio47

      OK Rick, after studying this video as well as my homework, I'm considering this setup:
      2 -JBL SRX 815P & 1- SRX 828P (Dual 18s). To cover 150-200 ppl small venue (without sub) the 815s ( so I'll have enough bass to cover). For 300 - 500 ppl I bring the 828 sub. Which I hope can cover my bass needs when positioned correctly. When traveling alone, I can fit in my SUV (Durango) with my Prime 4 controller & Dbx driverack PA2. I'm curious as to what do you think. Thx in advance for your reply.
      PS. I'm also considering lighting and a trailer. But that's way later.

    A thought your number one was different. Zlx don't have much power if you need to pull a bit the volume they burn amplifier as mines did. If you want a reasonable Ev buy the EKX series. In your list I change Zlx for last and JBL for first place.
