I'm 78 yrs old, and this was one of my favorite songs growing up. It was in a little paperback of camp songs, many with a Christian theme. i sang this song through my teens in church camp in Virginia, at Camp Glenkirk and Camp Massanetta. I wish I could go back one more time...
The German writer Marin Walser, who unfortunately passed away a few months ago, mentioned this song in his novel "Brandung", released in the middle Eighties. His main character Hemut Halm, a guest lecturer from Stuttgart, makes someone in California sing a song the man once heard from a friend. Immediately, Halm recognizes the song as "Von Luzern au Wäggis zua". In Germany, we once had a show presenting folk music on saturday night called "Musikantenstadl", which was mostly watched by elderly viewers. Maybe Halm got it from there. Maybe Walser himself did. I am glad to have found this song on youtube.
