    Seriously man I don't understand how you keep doing it... The last two days I was literally thinking to myself, " I should go ahead and research and have instructions and tutorials ready for when my next drive fails so I know how to replace it. I can jump right on it and get it done quickly".
    Keep up the great work. And whatever witchcraft you're using to read my mind... I'm not even going to ask you to stop. 😂

      @@AlienTech42 Well might as well throw my hat in the ring...
      I'm currently learning how to set unraid so that I can play steam games in a W11 VM (open to non-VM options) while I'm unraid is 1. Plugged in to the TV via HDMI and then also 2. remotely (local network) via browser. At the same time.
      This is so I can play Steam Games with Nexus Mods, both Witcher 3 and Skyrim.
      I have an Nvidia RTX 3090fe video card and plan to get another for dual cards (2 are required to play both ways at the same time.
      #1 is NEEDED, #2 would be great so the wife and I can play together.
      I'd like to start with
      If it helps, hardware:
      CPU. 11th Gen i7-11700K
      Mobo. Asus Z590
      2 NVMEs (one for cash, 2nd I'm not sure if I want redundant cache or use as VM Drive?)
      ARRAY: 4tb SSD + 6tb HDD
      PARITY: 6tb hdd
      RAM: 32gb

    Thank you for the vids. I've watched all of them and the are all super useful. Are you using any vpn or anything to access your shares from outside your network? Also on your Unraid main page, how did you get the bars on the right side (showing used and free space per drive) to show up with color (green/yellow)

    • @AlienTech42
      @AlienTech42  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use WireGuard VPN to get back into my machine when I need to. I also use Nextcloud for outside file access/transfer.. To get the colored used and free bars, go to: Settings, Display Settings, Used / Free columns. Set it to Bar (color)

      That's a great idea! I scan in all my paperwork into a digital filing system and use the search function to find what I am looking for. I don't scan in everything, mostly tax related items and stuff that has warranties or anything else that I want to keep track of.

    One suggestion I would give is to use unassigned devices to pre-clear your disks, not only will you get your array up faster, but the new drive has been vigorously tested before you install it. Good video

    recently lost my root password for unraid and the unraid website told me to delete these 2 files from my USB stick
    boot/config/shadow
    boot/config/smbpasswd
    I reset my password and when i logged in my entire system config is gone. No Dockers, no apps, no collection of my drives. It looks like a brand new / refresh unraid profile. is there a fix for this?

    • @AlienTech42
      @AlienTech42  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The system should "remember" your drives. You should be able to add the drives back to the array, as Unraid should have a list of each drive that it had in each slot. Just go down the list one at a time and select the drive that you had before. Once that is done, you should be able to start the array and the data should remain intact.
      The dockers can easily be restored by going to APPS, Previous Apps, SELECT ALL ON PAGE, then INSTALL # SELECTED APPLICATIONS. All the settings are remembered, so everything should just come back.
      Good luck!

    This channel is a life saver. It has really helped me in this journey. Question: I used a really really old computer to create my unraid server (i7-3770, 16GB with a Nvidia 660). The server is working but I am debating moving everything to another not so older computer. Is this a difficult process moving the entire server from one computer to another?

      Moving to a new computer is super easy. Shut down, remove the drives and the flash drive, put them in a new pc, set it to boot from the USB turn it on.
