David had the ultimate hair. Everyone at school aspired to achieve the same style, but never quite managed it!

Haha, can relate! I got the shag and glamrock stylo (kinda) but it was ffing hard back then to bleach jet black hair to platinum blonde... I ended up with yellow straw locks! 🙈😅

Yet a few years later David looked quite conservative without makeup and a very everyday men's haircut.

💗’Nostalgia burns in the hearts of the strongest...’ THIS SONG was a transcendental discovery for me in my youth. Sylvian is such a gifted artist. Innovative to the core. The whole album (Brilliant Trees) is an inspirational masterpiece, as are his other albums. Japan was a good platform in his earlier days & once he broke away, went solo & also began collaborating with other composers/musicians, his musicality went skyward to new & often sublime trajectories. We thank you Mr Sylvian, for taking us all on some incredible mind-blowing musical journeys over the years. Your work has been & still is much appreciated 👍🏼💗😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I remember when I first saw this video. It was the mid 1980s and I was in a bar in a rural town in Co. Galway, Ireland. I was with a friend who also liked the band, it came on the tv and I was blown away. I think the channel played a couple of Japan videos in a row. It’s really mad thinking about it, I am in my 60s now and my friend has since died. You never think things will turn out like this but eventually life catches up with us all.

I remember listening to this while travelling on a bus on a desolate, bleak, snowy winter’s day in the 80s. Absolutely blew me away.

I get the feeling, too. I was also on a bus when I first listened to "I Surrender", which is almost 10 minutes long with little variation, yet it was such a beautiful experience I'll never forget.
There's some kind of magic in Sylvian's music.

I bought the 7" vinyl of this back in the mid 80s. I used to listen to a "pirate" radio station called Laser 558. I think that's right. I reckon they had a limited amount of tunes to play, so it was always coming on. I don't know why I like it so much, but I just do. Sometimes that's a good enough reason.

This is *IMMACULATE*/TIMELESS/& David Sylvian at last was playing to audiences that listened to every octave , this hit me like a Bullet Train when I first nervously played Brilliant Trees on its release , I think I'd have never of forgiven myself though if I didn't attend the final two sold out London gigs prior them ( the fans weren't told !!) Finishing in a country that Japan need to thank , Japan,,,,,,,and the mass fans that kept An income ,not that it was enough to buy them a BMW between them!!, they made BFH ( Bus fare Home) from most of their short time as a band ,but without sold out Japan tours , we'd never have got past Adolescent sex, I do wish Rain Tree Crow never happened, it confused so many ,myself included, it was a bit of a *let's do this album whilst we have spare time *! Thanks for ( which DS HATES ) the music that means more than it did in 79 when I went my IST gig, I don't think it's the fact he hates all the early trax, I think it's because his desire to be so artistic attracted the best musicians ,genius"s to be more precise ,very much like Bowie did , I often wonder what work ( forget Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence) they could have worked on,maybe one producing ? All I know is we will never know , I'm actually wondering if they ever made up ? I know there was pure inspiration from Bowie as he did so many because like DS, he changed direction , but there was rumour of not a front page fall out like we get today with snap happy paperazi , but possibly over something trivia that Smash Hits ( lol) wrote, or David Bowie had double Booked DS Hair appointment,,, we'll never know .Albeit, not all of his solo work I like !! even today still , the cobwebs to prove "Blemish" was I mean hard bloody work to listen to , thank God I didn't go the tour ,, even DS today admits it was hard work performing it live ,,,,,, but the track that does it for me is "Heartbeat",,, I can't think of a song that ( brrrr) makes my body hair stand on edge, it's .........words can't describe , I'm sure you have your own,but Wow,,,,, even the video where he gives his beautiful ex wife a kiss ,it's immaculate ....
    Peace,and stay safe ✌️✌️✌️✌️

This video reminds me a lot of an old american 50s or early 60s film about a guy with an obsession and difficulty accepting reality..he found a liitle wooden shack-type property on a secluded beach like this where he proceeded to rent and live in with his new-found "family"...ofcourse things eventually turned sour when reality crowded out his simple dream... I will try to remember the name of this excellent study of the fragile psyche and the extraordinary effect that fate or "karma" or God's plan can bestow on a human from their own very valid perspective 😅
