Sounds fantastic, and I guess they're trying to strike a balance between the taps being an instrument and just 100% focus on the music. The original version is still out there plenty anyways so that's fine.
This version as does the others sends a shiver down my spine and a tear to my eyes, emotional and poignant from beginning to end. A very powerful spiritual moment in my opinion. Love and peace to the emerald isle from the UK. Oct 2020 ☘☘🙏❤🙏❤☘☘
@@paulcrisp9861 I saw the show last night in Oxford and had exactly the same reaction, which is why I'm lead here, to recreate my memory of the evening. Powerful 🎷🎶🎻💃🎉
I'm part Irish so to hear this new recording of the 25 anniversary show brings back memories of the 1995 Pointe Theater show where a young Micheal Flatley and Jean Butler brought us Riverdance for the first time, this album keeps the music fresh.
Hard to believe Riverdance is celebrating 25 yrs, since it was first performed at the Eurovision song contest and at the Pointe Theater in Dublin, and this recording features the same taps performed by Micheal Flatley and Jean Butler on the original album.
Okay, i must say that i really did not know what to expect at 3:55 because there is a big change, but then, the strings, oh my God those strings at 4:10 they took my heart and smash it again like, the first time when i heard it... Thank you, really
I saw the 25th anniversary show and wow. It was reconnection with my heritage and my mother. We're part of the diaspora and just as irish as our cousins living in the place I'm named after.
Quarter Irish American😂❤ One of the reasons we Europeans love you Americans. "I'm Irish😊 My great grandfathers uncles cousin twice removed was Irish! And I spend two weeks holiday in Dublin!" ;) Just jesting, it is just too cute
@@siggilinde5623 I think, to help explain the phenomenon (which really is only a European American thing, most other ethnicities are so much more recently immigrated that they KNOW precisely when they came and who came). It really boils down to the fact that a lot of our families came hundreds of years ago now and yet, as European Americans turned into this great melting pot, we lost our identities over time as families mixed and merged and we became "American" instead of whatever we were before. And yet, as proud as most of us are to be American and all that such an epithet gives anyone of any nation, it still falls short of the history we all know we have in our blood, y'know? So it feels invigorating and reassuring to know, "Ohhhh! So THAT's where my family orginiated from!". It often helps explain family names that are passed down through the family too. It's definitely, definitely a thing of pride, love and warmth when us Americans look back through our family lineages. But frankly, my own is SO muddled with Scottish, Welsh, English, and German names that God knows what I am. I did ask my English friend's grandmother years ago jokingly, "Ms. So and So, where do I look like I'm from?", she laughed and smiled and said "America". HAHA. So you gotta understand, it's at once a piece of pride to just be flatly "American" but also such a blank slate of identity tends to leave a desire to feel the deep roots of history that often America lacks because of how fast things change around here.
I would like Bill Whelan to get to know I made a video-tribute for some current heroes around the world with his piece "Some mother´s son" that is writen in my description. :) th-cam.com/video/KREJOWGWYN8/w-d-xo.html
There is one version of the soundtrack like that which was released a year or so before the official soundtrack simply titled Riverdance: Music From Riverdance the Show. It includes The Countess Cathleen/Women of the Sidhe, also without taps. Only place I''ve been able to find it for purchase is on here www.discogs.com/Bill-Whelan-Riverdance-Music-From-Riverdance-The-Show/master/619223 .
You are right, it is not traditonal Irish. Popular shows like Riverdance and Lord of the Dance incorporated musical influences from other traditions to mix it up. That was a huge part of their success.
Is it just me, or does something seem ... missing with this version - like the accordion(s) are either really soft in places, or not present at all in other parts? IMO they definitely added a LOT of depth to the music, especially during the part where Michael Flatley, Colin Dunne, etc (depending on which ver you're watching heh) are dancing. (Doesn't make me not like the song - it just makes this version feel more "naked" to me.)

This tune with the sound of the dancers is how it should be as they add another beat to the music. Gives me goosebumps
I love how they’ve made it sound so much closer to the original than other performances, if not better.

That’s true
Bill Whelan is an outstanding composer and arranger. We neglect his talent.

I had the chance to watch this anniversary show live in Edinburgh. And my goodness when the dancing started with this song my heart was in my mouth.

I have always wanted to hear this music without the sound of the dancing, but I can't find it anywhere like that

I've always enjoyed the taps versions of these tracks. It adds intensity to the already heart-pumping music and it really makes you move around.

Actually, this is the best version ever .. way better than the original one.

Is there any video of the musician playing this? I can't find it anywhere! ❤😭
Hard to say, this doesn’t sound like irish music, I might be wrong, but I am a beginner so I might be wrong. But go river dance and irish dance!

Bill Whelan ❤🍀💐
Magical. Beautiful and compelling. 🙂💜👌
A shame this is the only version available on vinyl. Hopefully one day they will press the original
I've seen the scene in the movie where they do the same dance to the music by Bill W.no wonder the movie was inspired by the worldwide dance show.
I love this music 🎶 🎵 ❤ 😌 ♥ 🙌 for Riverdance.
