    In this scene Cora is not the lady of the house she's a proud mother, and that's beautiful

    • @tobynsaunders
      @tobynsaunders 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      She was also a dim-witted mother in this case. I mean, she was speaking at a relatively normal volume within earshot while standing in full view while "hiding" behind a translucent piece of glass, and then assuming that her daughter was too stupid to seeing standing there having a conversation with Carson and then walking down the hallway. Cora was going to lie about being surprised, and so are we to assume that Sybil was going to lie about not seeing her mother?

    Cora's reaction to seeing her noble-born daughter choosing to act for herself and interact with the Help in performing the simple task (which is a WAR ZONE of a task to someone who's never lifted a finger to dress themselves) of baking a cake, for HER her mother, is one of the wholesome, endearing moments that madebthis show so great!!!

Heck there are whole channels here on TH-cam to teach us things we *should* have learn but for whatever reason did not learn. I know I use them *ALL* the time😂 lol my dad was giving us the guff over changing a car battery, it’s so easy guys : yeah but we’ve not done it before or been shown how to 😂 now we *do* know how to do an oil & tire change cause we were taught as teens😂 pardon me for going on and on a bit off topic🥴🫠😂 Yes it was lovely to see Lady S in the kitchen and how she didn’t chastise them for giggling at her but still asked for their help so no one else would laugh at her . Physical affection never seemed very common in the upper class of that time, but its a reminder that Isobel is of a lower class and Sybil was raised by an American mother who seemed to express her love more openly than a lot of the British mothers on the show. Its a lovely little moment

      Lady Sybil was my favorite of ALL the characters. I haven't watched the show in a few years, but I remember a scene where when one of the Maids was hungry and - I think - it was Anna said that she should eat Lady Sybil's breakfast biscuits... that, "She wouldn't mind". If that was the only sentence referencing Lady Sybil's character, it would be enough for the audience to understand the kind and humble person she was.

    When Cora sees the joy on Sybil's face as her cake comes out of the oven and is a success... that overrode any objections she might have had. Seeing her daughter so happy was what Cora wanted for her. Such a great scene with stellar acting.

    This is one of my all time favorite downton scenes. The pride on cora's face is shining. The interaction between sybill and daisy is awesome. I miss this show. Ive watched it end to end at least three or four times. I think its one of the best shows ever on tv. Im no expert or critic but the writing was top notch. The depth of each character, the character development over the years, so good. My wish is another season. I doubt it will happen but i can hope. I am in new york. Last year i went to a downton abby trivia night. First prize was tickets to a Giants game which i wanted really bad. Well, i didnt win but i got third out of a whole room of people. I even surprised myself. Happy Holidays everyone. Stay safe. Peace to all!!

    It’s great to know that based on how the series evolves, Sybil and Daisy very likely would have been very good friends. Great to see two people with high moral values disagree (but not in a malicious way) in Cora and Carson. Easy to interpret Carson as unkind or wrong here but it’s understandable considering his character. He does mean well but that’s where Cora comes in to handle it correctly and appropriately!
