The way they looked at each other, it was like they'd missed each other so much. And you can see the excitement in their smile, and the way Hee-do said "see you then" made me think she's coming home to her husband soon. And the way Yi-jin looks at her, it feels like he is longing for her that much too. And it seems like their smile isn't a smile of sadness and regret. It's like two people in love, secretly happy being together. Whoa! I really like the idea that they ended up together. It's been a long journey, and they chose to overcome the odds together. And I'm glad their group is succeeding in their chosen profession. I'm also looking forward to their reunion together with their own family. I'm kind of sad that this drama's finale will be next week, but I am glad that I got the chance to watch this masterpiece. Kudos to the whole team. You made us laugh, cry, excited and go crazy thinking about what the ending would be.

Did anyone hear a little girl yelling “Appa” during the 2009 interview with BYJ and NHD?! It might be KMC as a toddler while she was with her mom during tournaments and she might’ve recognized her dad (BYJ) on the screen! (or she's in the broadcasting station since NHD is away)! I saw it on one of the channels. I got goosebumps! The details of this show are unmatched. I’m just so happy BJY didn’t die at 25 or in his 20s! So I’m back at having them as endgame and there’s still so much hope. I agree with you in this theory! Bc even tho this show accurately depicts our youth, I think it emphasizes fighting for your dreams, family, friendships, etc…so why not fight for your true love?! NHD even admitted she doesn’t like the “Romeo and Juliet” type of relationship so I feel like they’ll do whatever it takes to be endgame (even tho so many people discouraged them). They’ll learn from their own and other peoples past mistakes. this group has been through so much (I have so much respect for Ko YuRim!) , it really shows the sacrifices you need to make to be happy and successful at life (for your career, family, etc). So I feel like the sacrifices they made will all pay off when they’re adults. Also, people keep things for sentimental value if they’ve passed away or if they’re together. Since we know BYJ didn’t die (at least I hope not) then they MUST be together! If they did break up, Who names a wood shop after their ex?? Or keeps their ex’s stuff? Lol I’m actually so happy I’m watching this as it’s airing bc it’s the first time in a while (or ever) that I legit have gone thru an emotional roller coaster (without knowing the ending) but in the best way possible (happy and sad tears). The best writing for sure. The writer really depicts a nostalgic sense of youth… but I think the lessons lie in knowing and keeping who your true friends are (which I hope they all still are close), loving and having empathy for family, and ofc fighting for your true love bc it really doesn’t come by often. Saw a comment saying that at the beginning of next episode yi jin will change to something other than sports, and that the 2009 interview will be his first one back and that’s why they’re emotional. I found this very logical and matches the emotions conveyed in the scene.
@@biswabanditarout9201 i think it makes sense. Because her mom was able to hide their relationship. Even when she won her gold medal there was no mention of her parents. Husband is secondary. If her mother can do it so can you-Jin. Even her close friends don’t know who her mother is. This shows that there is a possibility of them hiding their relationship from others and the writer gave it to us from the beginning of this series we just ignored it.
When Min chae read the diary, she asked abt the picture in which they took at seungwan house during loach soup. She asked who is back yi jin in the picture! That was the moment for me to expect the sad ending in the series.

I just watched episode 14 and I'm crying buckets of tears, idk why i am so emotional. I just hope the ending is what we all are wishing and hoping for. I hope they all get reunited in the end and nobody dies in this one atleast. This drama gave me reply 1988 vibes and i don't think i will be able to get over 25/21 that quickly.
Watching the ending sure gave me a unfinished feeling if that makes sense, but the fact that in the last interview with Na Hee Do she has the staff make sure to part her hair since the 'left' is her better side (YiJin told her before) Then the looks that they gave eachother was more of longing than one you would give to your ex...if im not mistaken. Then this was mentioned "I will take care of everything. See you then" Almost like "I'll see you at home" So i believe that they held a secret wedding, and that they are still together now. Plus like with Hee Dos mom on how they kept their mother-daughter relationship a secret, i believe they did as well.
Not to mention that in one of the episodes, Heedo’s daughter kept asking where her dad was all this time and he wasn’t always home as he had work to do. In episode 15 or 16, I don’t remember, Na hee do told yujin that she doesn’t want to have a boyfriend that is a reporter as her mother was also a reporter and not always present in the house;THEREFORE, yujin and Na hee do ACTUALLY GOT MARRIED!! AHHH OMG YAYYY
The writers of this show are amazing Such a beautiful story and the suspenses one of the best kdrama I've ever watched this show reached my top 2 list can't wait for next episode.
now thats a very solid theory right there especially with the proofs its just that isnt it a little difficult to maintain two different identities when you are husband of a famous athlete and are yourself famous maybe later on they reveal it to the world...and its too less of a time left to display their breaking up and parting ways when in ep 15 preview we can see that they are dating so that even decreases the time for a new plot to be inserted so theres only one thing left to do join the ends...fingers crossed
Ep 14 is the saddest episode. I think the Director/writer will not put into so much details of the two having sweet moments together if they wont end up happily. That's why when I saw the preview of the next episode, it got me excited and happy that they will have a happy ending for sure. 😊 The only thing im not happy about is, the drama will end next week! 😥
I think they are putting so much emphasis on their love in 15th episode because it’s going to burn out and they’ll still love each other from afar! It’s just way for grand exit before fizzling out! They’ll understand that while they love each other their love can’t change their situation and they will break up and drift apart just like it happens in real life because making drama so called Real is new trend! So don’t get your hopes up they are going to break up for sure and drift apart from each others remembering their older days when they get reunited as friends because episode 16 will surely have all cast’s reunion as older versions of themselves and they will meet with Heedo’s daughter and we will finally see Heedo’s original husband!
The only reason i have for believing that they end up together is what Hee Do said on her interview "dont worry, ill taKe care of everything," which she also said on earlier episodes when Yi Jin run away and disappeared with his brother without saying goodbye. Hee Do had waited for him trusting that one day he would show up, which he eventually did.. Hee Do follows thru on her words, she is portrayed as persistent. What's with their efforts of fighting for their love if they don't end up together.? Other than that, the two of them are keeping it professional during the live interview in episode 14..if you take notice, they were trying hard to keep it together during the interview but still they couldn't help asking how each other were doing on live TV..they however spoke in ways that only them understood like when Hee Do said she will take care of everything. they tried to separate their private lives from their professional lives.. just my 2 cents 😉 Edit:after watching the finale episode, i just thought to come back here. My assumptions were wrong. And i was sad that it wasnt a happy ever after together for them. I was hoping to come back to my comment and write the words and they live happily ever after together. I guess the writer tried to deviate from a cliche story and ended Hee Do and Yi Jin's love story that way. After all they have been through a lot already. But anyway, ill just put it this way, "that's just how love goes for some 👋
whatever the ending, happy or sad, I'll enjoy it. i just watched ep 14 and I'm bawling bcos of Yurim and Hee Do. I'm jealous of their friendship tbh. I wish Yurim found her happiness at the end too, Seungwan and Jiwoong as well, not only Hee Do and Yijin 😭 I love their characters and stories!! OMG i can't believe this will end soon 😭😭

Yes I believe in this theory. Writers are very clever and giving hints for sad ending and obviously if the speculations are right then there is no suspense.they will definitely give happy ending.

I’m starting to think that Kim Min Chae is not Hee Do’s daughter. She is already 15yrs old which means that she was born in 2005 or 2006 which I think is the peak of Hee Do’s career in fencing, she can’t be pregnant. Also in episode 7 Min Chae asked Hee Do if she did not tell her father that she quit ballet and Hee Do’s response is “you tell him.” I think Hee Do might not be in good terms or not close with Min Chae’s father. This drama is making me insane. I want Yi Jin and Hee Do to end up together.
People are being thrown off by the idea that these two will end up together because Minchae has a different surname and that she asked her grandma who is this (pointing to Baek Yijin in their group picture that she saw in the albums) but for me those are just plot devices that the writers used to make us anticipate a different ending so that we will love the happy ending plot twist. I believe the reason Minchae is so invested in the story in Heedo’s diary was because she realized who the man was in the story of her mom. It’s obviously her dad. Otherwise, why would Minchae root for Heedo and Yijin if her father is a different man who is alive and is still married to Heedo. Listen guys, Minchae never mentioned that she didn’t know who Yijin is or that she does not recognize him. The first time she read her mom’s diary she thought she was reading about her mom’s story about ex-bf but it was actually Yurim that her mom was referring to. But when Yijin was finally introduced, we never saw Minchae’s POV nor any negative reactions from her. She also seems to know Yijin in that visualization of her dialogue to Heedo and Yijin after Yijin made Heedo cry because Yijin thought she was gonna kiss her again. Minchae called Heedo “mom” at first then she corrected herself and called her “Heedo” then she went out to address “Yijin’s memory/POV”. As what others said, Minchae treats them as her comic book characters so we have never heard or seen her refer to Baek Yijin as “dad” and there wasn’t also a chance for her to do so since her dad is not at home. She couldn’t just blurt out/slip in calling BYJ dad esp when she haven’t let her mom or grandma know she was reading Heedo’s diary. Also, looking back at Heedo and Yijin during that 2009 video clip, I can still see that their facial expressions are sad/happy but not in a “The one that got away” or “I regret losing you but I am happy for you” way. They seem to be longing for each other and what Yijin said could be taken as a discreet way of flirting for professional people like them. It is out of topic and something personal so why would Yijin include that comment if he would be reprimanded by the boss and it would only rub salt to his wound? I also keep coming back to Yijin and Heedo’s mom’s interactions. Heedo’s mom literally told Yijin to not apply for sports news if he does not want to lose Heedo (something along those lines) and that is like what Yijin remembers every time they come across obstacles in their relationship due to his profession. I feel like Heedo’s mom’s experience will not be repeated by Yijin because Heedo won’t let him just give up their relationship w/o a solution. And what did Heedo thought about during their convo on that 2009 video? She repeated to herself that she would do everything so that her support will reach him and that they will see each other again

Also a clip on twitter has been circulating wherein we can hear a background voice (toddler’s voice) saying “dad/appa” during the 2009 interview between Heedo and Yijin and YJ looked down at that moment and paused before he responded to Heedo but it also felt like he was talking to the baby. It felt intentional and not an editing mishap

I mean, she wouldn't exactly be curious to find out about it if it was about another guy. And the way heedo's eyes looked at yijin during the interview. You wouldn't look at someone like that if you were already married to someone else. These are my observations. I really hope there's a big plot twist in the upcoming eoisode.

The way Heedo eye looked at Yijin during the interview also can explain ex-lovers seeing each other for the first time after lost contact. It's kinda like for 5 years lost contact with your ex but suddenly he appears in front of you ( your relationship with your ex during break-off should be peaceful and good). However the last part when Heedo say "i will take care of everything" and "see you later" suggest that they will be meeting up later. meaning they might already get married

She is not the kind of person that would be in one relationship while loving another. She is too honest and persistent for that. The writers just really wanted to mess with our heads and make it a bit of a cliffhanger so they added the ambiguous congratulations...

Do watch Korea Movie "On Your Wedding Day", there is a scene whereby the main actor and actress met on the actress's wedding day. Same eye contact, same feeling.

I do agree that it could be interpreted as such but with the voice over and what they said to each other...this interview was a bit more intimate than ex lovers not seeing each other in 5 years.
IMO there's no way that Min Chae hasn't already guessed that Yi Jin is her dad, especially if he is still a reporter to date. My guess is that Min Chae already knows that Yi Jin is her dad but for some reason or other only refers to him "Yi Jin" in the present-day clips that they're showing to us. In the clip where Min Chae is annoyed at Yi Jin for not responding to Hee-Do's kiss (and actually interacts with them on-screen), there's a line where Min Chae says "eomma -- I mean Na Hee-Do" before similarly going on to refer to Yi Jin as "Yi Jin". There's no reason why the writers would make Min Chae refer to her own mum by her full name if not to give the context for her referring to Yi Jin by his name (instead of appa).
Why would minchae will be too invested to read her mothers diary and learn about yijin, how they developed as a couple and her eagerness to look for her mothers next diary in the ep 14 to the point of searching them in the internet, If in the end its not his dad afterall. She was so curious. Also, heedo's old room is full of Yijins stuffs, if she married someone else and her room is full of memories of Yijin woulldn't the husband will somehow get jealous of it. I guess minchae doesn't know Baek YiJin coz maybe she know the other name of her father, Yijin used back yijin as his reporter name and maybe to keep his family private and have that reporter subject distance he used Kim as his surname or used his legal name since I strongly think he is adopted. Also, another thing I think that Minchae also might not recognize Yijin in the photos coz Yijin doesnt have photos of him when he was younger, she only knows the current face of his dad. I am holding on the theory that heedo's mom suffers a bit of memory loss due to her illness. Lastly, the look of heedo and yijin in the interview video is more on longingness, heedo's eyes are teary. Maybe due to her training for the competitions in madrid prague and Sanfo, and keeping their family life a secret kept most of them apart from each other. Keeping their relationship is hard but they are trying all their best to endure it so that they can still be happy together. Remember heedo said in the 2nd epiosde to Yijin, "lets be happy when we are together and it can be our little secret." Waaaahhh! I think I'm going nuts! hahhahaa. This drama is driving me crazy. Whatever is the ending, it is still a beautifully written and heartwarming drama. Kim Taeri and NamJooHyuk will forever be my OTP bias! their chemistry in this drama is overflowing! 🥰

And when yijin came to the funeral, he looked kinda surprised or sad when he was signing and saw heedo’s name. And seung-wan asked him if she should tell him things about his ex gf, which is heedo. The scene where they spoke to each other in the news happened only a few days after this…so I don’t think they’re back tgt😭😭

im guessing yijin will leave the sports news team early in the next episode because he feels so awful about exposing yurim, and so he never interviewed heedo since then to maintain distance. that 2009 interview mightve just been the first interview hes had with her on air in the past 8 years. he said his congratulations on her marriage was very belated, so maybe she was married a few years ago, had her daughter, and that congratulations is his way of acknowledging their relationship on air, like an inside joke
i think minchae is born around 2007-2008, as the grandma mentioned that she's 15. its possible that yijin congratulated her on the wedding a few years late because they haven't met on TV like that in a long time, so heedo probably didn't give birth out of wedlock. I guess at the year she gave birth to minchae she had to take a hiatus, but she resumed her career bc in 2009 she's still winning gold medals.

But after reading your comment, it makes total sense that they talked the why they did because they’re facing each other as an athlete and reporter once again after a long time, even though they’re together behind cameras, and both are emotional and proud of the other. after watching it 2x, it seems that BYJ and NHD were reconciled and had a happy ending, even before the lost diary was returned to NHD. when they said goodbyes at 2521, their love for each other was still there. i believe that they may have overcome the distance between them, just like yurim and her BF. the fact that NHD’s husband was abroad when the covid pandemic happened is a possible clue that distance is no longer a major issue in ther relationship. there is a likelihood that NHD also learned from her dad, who was supportive of her mom’s career. maybe this is the reason why even when her mom’s career deeply hurt her after her dad’s death, she still emcouraged BJY not to give up on his dream to follow her mom’s career path.
Also did anyone pick up a baby saying ‘appa’ at around 02:50 in ep 14, when Yijin was interviewing Hee do? It was so faint but if you play it loudly it was clearly a baby saying ‘appa’, in my mind that’s their child because why else would the editors leave it in there😭
I agree with all your theories, only the part about Min Chae not being able to tell her father's face. This is practically impossible. The most likely reason is that Min Chae has only known his father's new name (e.g. Kim XY) since birth but not his previous name. Min-chae might have thought she was gossiping about her mother's ex-lover when she read the diary at first, but she didn't expect to see the photo later and found out that this "ex-lover" was her father. She later became fully involved in the story because she realized that it was a story of her parents' struggle to make great sacrifices in pursuit of happiness.
I like how this show focuses more on the friendship of each character and how they are towards each other. Looking forward to see how this ends but so far its been great

Your theory is almost exactly like mine and I have posted on another video. But I have another explanation of why Minchae didn’t recognize her dad. We all think this because of the scene with her grandma where she asks who’s Yijin. Then when her grandma points to Yijin she says that’s Baek Yijin ...but then her grandma asks her do you know him? Then Minchaes looks at her with concern then she was flustered and hurriedly said no I don’t know him and walks out. At first that reaction seem like she just didn’t want her grandma to know she’s been reading about them and that she didn’t know Yijin at all. But what if she did see her dad in the picture she just didn’t know he was also Baek Yijin because she knew him by another name. Then if you start to think about the Alzheimer’s dementia possibility it can be seen like this. If Yijin changed his name then his daughter may not know that he used to be called Baek Yijin. When she first started reading her moms diaries she assumed Yijin was the name of her ex boy friend. So in the scene with her grandma and the picture it was her grandma that first revealed that Yijin was in the picture. It could be that to Minchae it was simply a picture of her mom dad and friends when they were young. But when the grandma said Yijin looks so young there...she then wondered who Yijin was in the picture Cos there were two guys. When her grandma pointed to her dad she then goes ah thats Baek Yijin...could be the first time she realized that she was actually reading about her mom and dad. I think that’s why she was became more invested in their story. But when her grandma asked do you know him? She looked at her grandma with concern Cos why would her grandma ask her if she knows her own dad...now she sees that her grandma forgot that Baek Yijin was her dad and she was showing signs of dementia...that’s why she just hurriedly went along with her grandma so not to make her anxious and left the room. We see that Yijin was the anchor by 2009, so I agree he probably changed department in 2000. But I think he could also have left the on camera work after Minchae was born that’s why he may not have such a public persona as Minchae was growing up, so she never associated the name Baek Yijin with her dad. The other clues I had that Yijin and Heedo are end game is the name of her shop... 2521. Just does not make sense to name your shop after a significant time with your ex. During Heedo’s conversation with her mom about yijins picture...Heedo looked at his picture with such love and fondness, which is not consistent with how you would look at an ex. she only looked disturbed after mom mentioned seeing him the month before so I agree with dementia moment here. The reason I am convinced about a happy ending now when I was always expecting something sad is because the writers showed us how deep Yijins love for Heedo...I think he would agree to any scheme that would keep them together and give them a peaceful life. So either he simply decided to create a different name as Heedo’s husband or he was adopted and Kim’s his real name...I really doubt he would let a job keep them apart. The only thing thing hat would probably keep him away is death or if She fell in love with someone else....too late to introduce another character now!

When Kim Min-Chae searches for articles, the first few links that cropped up dated 2020 and 2019 listed only Hee Do’s name. The links that followed were dated 2009 which had both Hee Do and Yi Jin mentioned. I am really hoping that this time jump is an indication that Yi Jin changed his name after 2009. And he started using that name also as a reporter. Else wouldn’t the name Yi Jin have appeared in UBS news links after 2009 if he continued to be a reporter. Fingers crossed for a happy ending!

To start a afresh, I think he took his mom's surname who divorced his dad only on paper so the family will be spared. I think you also missed a clue when adult hee-do cannot remember going to the beach especially when it was the only time they went outing with her friends which means that maybe her and her mother may genetically have Alzheimer's disease which also explains why Hee-do and her mom were both in the hospital beds that one time

After watching today episode, I went through a range of emotions because they were showing the 9/11 attack, and I am from NYC, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Although, I was not living there at the time, it still affected me deeply as a New Yorker. After watching this episode, I am hopeful that Yi Jin and Hee Do will be together. Yi Jin was going through a rough patch being a reporter, and now a foreign correspondent covering more tragedies.

What if the next diary of heedo would be about how their secret married/relationship works?? Right?? There's so many questions running on my mind like why does she needs to get married, why does he need to congratulate her?? Who the hell is the writer of this story, why does he need to hurt us like this??? I was so frustrated. I just finished watching this drama three days ago and I have cried a river all throughout. I’m still heartbroken about the cliffhanger, but after seeing the details such as the photo album,the stuff of Yijin at Heedo’s in present, and the interview part where she said See you later. The line “I regret that we had to break up like that at that time…” made more sense… I hope they make season 2 cause I hated not being able to get closure HAHHAHAHAA 😭💀 Whatever it is, I’d like to see the story between the gap after Heedo’s retirement and Yijin coming back to Korea 🥹 since they both have the same circle of friends it would be impossible for them not to be in contact at all. And damn yes, you guys at the comment section is right, you dont tell your ex “see you later” in national TV, no? 😂💀 specially Heedo knows how every little thing can be misinterpreted in the media based on her experiences. Just read some post that gave more logic and made sense explanation the possibility minchae is yijin and heedo daughter . Yijin’s father divorced his mother in order to prevent his father debts will pass to them, we were shown how suffered yijin because of this and how he worked hard to pay the some of the debts. In 2008, there’s adjustment in law for family registry from patriarchal system to neutral system, women after marriage will change their father’s family registry under their husband family line where divorced mother could have registered their children under the mother family line . Yijin’s mother surname is Kim. In order to prevent any possibilities that Yijin’s father debtors will go after HD who was famous fencer once they know about the marriage , yijin and heedo have to wait until 2009 to legally registered their marriage and yijin used different surname. It explains why minchae is kim minchae because yijin changed his surname. The last scene in ep 14, heedo addressed yijin as “ anchornim”, and there’s no more update info about Baek Yijin anchor after 2009.

The way they looked at each other, it was like they'd missed each other so much. And you can see the excitement in their smile, and the way Hee-do said "see you then" made me think she's coming home to her husband soon. And the way Yi-jin looks at her, it feels like he is longing for her that much too. And it seems like their smile isn't a smile of sadness and regret. It's like two people in love, secretly happy being together.
Whoa! I really like the idea that they ended up together. It's been a long journey, and they chose to overcome the odds together. And I'm glad their group is succeeding in their chosen profession. I'm also looking forward to their reunion together with their own family. I'm kind of sad that this drama's finale will be next week, but I am glad that I got the chance to watch this masterpiece. Kudos to the whole team. You made us laugh, cry, excited and go crazy thinking about what the ending would be.

I’m actually so happy I’m watching this as it’s airing bc it’s the first time in a while (or ever) that I legit have gone thru an emotional roller coaster (without knowing the ending) but in the best way possible (happy and sad tears). The best writing for sure. The writer really depicts a nostalgic sense of youth… but I think the lessons lie in knowing and keeping who your true friends are (which I hope they all still are close), loving and having empathy for family, and ofc fighting for your true love bc it really doesn’t come by often. (even if it might not last - but I hope both couples last!). What a show. Whatever happens, it’s been such a ride. Love it! 🥲💓💯💯💯💯

If her mother can do it so can you-Jin. Even her close friends don’t know who her mother is. When Min chae read the diary, she asked abt the picture in which they took at seungwan house during loach soup. She asked who is back yi jin in the picture! That was the moment for me to expect the sad ending in the series.

I just watched episode 14 and I'm crying buckets of tears, idk why i am so emotional. I just hope the ending is what we all are wishing and hoping for. Watching the ending sure gave me a unfinished feeling if that makes sense, but the fact that in the last interview with Na Hee Do she has the staff make sure to part her hair since the 'left' is her better side (YiJin told her before)
Then the looks that they gave eachother was more of longing than one you would give to your ex...if im not mistaken. Then this was mentioned "I will take care of everything. See you then" Almost like "I'll see you at home"
So i believe that they held a secret wedding, and that they are still together now. Plus like with Hee Dos mom on how they kept their mother-daughter relationship a secret, i believe they did as well.
Not to mention that in one of the episodes, Heedo’s daughter kept asking where her dad was all this time and he wasn’t always home as he had work to do. In episode 15 or 16, I don’t remember, Na hee do told yujin that she doesn’t want to have a boyfriend that is a reporter as her mother was also a reporter and not always present in the house;THEREFORE, yujin and Na hee do ACTUALLY GOT MARRIED!! The writers of this show are amazing Such a beautiful story and the suspenses one of the best kdrama I've ever watched this show reached my top 2 list can't wait for next episode.

Ep 14 is the saddest episode. I think the Director/writer will not put into so much details of the two having sweet moments together if they wont end up happily. That's why when I saw the preview of the next episode, it got me excited and happy that they will have a happy ending for sure. 😊

I think they are putting so much emphasis on their love in 15th episode because it’s going to burn out and they’ll still love each other from afar! It’s just way for grand exit before fizzling out! They’ll understand that while they love each other their love can’t change their situation and they will break up and drift apart just like it happens in real life because making drama so called Real is new trend! So don’t get your hopes up they are going to break up for sure and drift apart from each others remembering their older days when they get reunited as friends because episode 16 will surely have all cast’s reunion as older versions of themselves and they will meet with Heedo’s daughter and we will finally see Heedo’s original husband!

The only reason i have for believing that they end up together is what Hee Do said on her interview "dont worry, ill taKe care of everything," which she also said on earlier episodes when Yi Jin run away and disappeared with his brother without saying goodbye. Hee Do had waited for him trusting that one day he would show up, which he eventually did.. Hee Do follows thru on her words, she is portrayed as persistent. What's with their efforts of fighting for their love if they don't end up together.?
Other than that, the two of them are keeping it professional during the live interview in episode 14..if you take notice, they were trying hard to keep it together during the interview but still they couldn't help asking how each other were doing on live TV..they however spoke in ways that only them understood like when Hee Do said she will take care of everything. they tried to separate their private lives from their professional lives.. just my 2 cents 😉
Edit:after watching the finale episode, i just thought to come back here. My assumptions were wrong. And i was sad that it wasnt a happy ever after together for them. I was hoping to come back to my comment and write the words and they live happily ever after together. I guess the writer tried to deviate from a cliche story and ended Hee Do and Yi Jin's love story that way. After all they have been through a lot already. Lmao I started theorizing Minchae is adopted and kept her birth name because I’m so desperate for Hee do and Yi Jin to end up together.
People are being thrown off by the idea that these two will end up together because Minchae has a different surname and that she asked her grandma who is this (pointing to Baek Yijin in their group picture that she saw in the albums) but for me those are just plot devices that the writers used to make us anticipate a different ending so that we will love the happy ending plot twist. I believe the reason Minchae is so invested in the story in Heedo’s diary was because she realized who the man was in the story of her mom. It’s obviously her dad. Otherwise, why would Minchae root for Heedo and Yijin if her father is a different man who is alive and is still married to Heedo. Listen guys, Minchae never mentioned that she didn’t know who Yijin is or that she does not recognize him. The first time she read her mom’s diary she thought she was reading about her mom’s story about ex-bf but it was actually Yurim that her mom was referring to. But when Yijin was finally introduced, we never saw Minchae’s POV nor any negative reactions from her. She also seems to know Yijin in that visualization of her dialogue to Heedo and Yijin after Yijin made Heedo cry because Yijin thought she was gonna kiss her again. Minchae called Heedo “mom” at first then she corrected herself and called her “Heedo” then she went out to address “Yijin’s memory/POV”. As what others said, Minchae treats them as her comic book characters so we have never heard or seen her refer to Baek Yijin as “dad” and there wasn’t also a chance for her to do so since her dad is not at home. She couldn’t just blurt out/slip in calling BYJ dad esp when she haven’t let her mom or grandma know she was reading Heedo’s diary. Also, looking back at Heedo and Yijin during that 2009 video clip, I can still see that their facial expressions are sad/happy but not in a “The one that got away” or “I regret losing you but I am happy for you” way. They seem to be longing for each other and what Yijin said could be taken as a discreet way of flirting for professional people like them. It is out of topic and something personal so why would Yijin include that comment if he would be reprimanded by the boss and it would only rub salt to his wound? I also keep coming back to Yijin and Heedo’s mom’s interactions. Heedo’s mom literally told Yijin to not apply for sports news if he does not want to lose Heedo (something along those lines) and that is like what Yijin remembers every time they come across obstacles in their relationship due to his profession. I feel like Heedo’s mom’s experience will not be repeated by Yijin because Heedo won’t let him just give up their relationship w/o a solution. And what did Heedo thought about during their convo on that 2009 video? She repeated to herself that she would do everything so that her support will reach him and that they will see each other again

Also a clip on twitter has been circulating wherein we can hear a background voice (toddler’s voice) saying “dad/appa” during the 2009 interview between Heedo and Yijin and YJ looked down at that moment and paused before he responded to Heedo but it also felt like he was talking to the baby. It felt intentional and not an editing mishap

I mean, she wouldn't exactly be curious to find out about it if it was about another guy. And the way heedo's eyes looked at yijin during the interview. The way Heedo eye looked at Yijin during the interview also can explain ex-lovers seeing each other for the first time after lost contact. It's kinda like for 5 years lost contact with your ex but suddenly he appears in front of you ( your relationship with your ex during break-off should be peaceful and good). However the last part when Heedo say "i will take care of everything" and "see you later" suggest that they will be meeting up later. meaning they might already get married

She is not the kind of person that would be in one relationship while loving another. She is too honest and persistent for that. I do agree that it could be interpreted as such but with the voice over and what they said to each other...this interview was a bit more intimate than ex lovers not seeing each other in 5 years.
IMO there's no way that Min Chae hasn't already guessed that Yi Jin is her dad, especially if he is still a reporter to date. My guess is that Min Chae already knows that Yi Jin is her dad but for some reason or other only refers to him "Yi Jin" in the present-day clips that they're showing to us. In the clip where Min Chae is annoyed at Yi Jin for not responding to Hee-Do's kiss (and actually interacts with them on-screen), there's a line where Min Chae says "eomma -- I mean Na Hee-Do" before similarly going on to refer to Yi Jin as "Yi Jin". There's no reason why the writers would make Min Chae refer to her own mum by her full name if not to give the context for her referring to Yi Jin by his name (instead of appa).

Why would minchae will be too invested to read her mothers diary and learn about yijin, how they developed as a couple and her eagerness to look for her mothers next diary in the ep 14 to the point of searching them in the internet, If in the end its not his dad afterall. She was so curious.
Also, heedo's old room is full of Yijins stuffs, if she married someone else and her room is full of memories of Yijin woulldn't the husband will somehow get jealous of it. I guess minchae doesn't know Baek YiJin coz maybe she know the other name of her father, Yijin used back yijin as his reporter name and maybe to keep his family private and have that reporter subject distance he used Kim as his surname or used his legal name since I strongly think he is adopted. Also, another thing I think that Minchae also might not recognize Yijin in the photos coz Yijin doesnt have photos of him when he was younger, she only knows the current face of his dad.
I am holding on the theory that heedo's mom suffers a bit of memory loss due to her illness. Lastly, the look of heedo and yijin in the interview video is more on longingness, heedo's eyes are teary. Maybe due to her training for the competitions in madrid prague and Sanfo, and keeping their family life a secret kept most of them apart from each other. Keeping their relationship is hard but they are trying all their best to endure it so that they can still be happy together. Remember heedo said in the 2nd epiosde to Yijin, "lets be happy when we are together and it can be our little secret."

im guessing yijin will leave the sports news team early in the next episode because he feels so awful about exposing yurim, and so he never interviewed heedo since then to maintain distance. that 2009 interview mightve just been the first interview hes had with her on air in the past 8 years. he said his congratulations on her marriage was very belated, so maybe she was married a few years ago, had her daughter, and that congratulations is his way of acknowledging their relationship on air, like an inside joke

i think minchae is born around 2007-2008, as the grandma mentioned that she's 15. its possible that yijin congratulated her on the wedding a few years late because they haven't met on TV like that in a long time, so heedo probably didn't give birth out of wedlock. I guess at the year she gave birth to minchae she had to take a hiatus, but she resumed her career bc in 2009 she's still winning gold medals.

Like why would hee do ask yi jin how he’s been and why was yi jin emphasizing his congrats, all I could think was “ have they really separated??”.

I agree with all your theories, only the part about Min Chae not being able to tell her father's face. This is practically impossible. The most likely reason is that Min Chae has only known his father's new name (e.g. Kim XY) since birth but not his previous name. Min-chae might have thought she was gossiping about her mother's ex-lover when she read the diary at first, but she didn't expect to see the photo later and found out that this "ex-lover" was her father. She later became fully involved in the story because she realized that it was a story of her parents' struggle to make great sacrifices in pursuit of happiness.
I like how this show focuses more on the friendship of each character and how they are towards each other.

Your theory is almost exactly like mine and I have posted on another video. But I have another explanation of why Minchae didn’t recognize her dad. We all think this because of the scene with her grandma where she asks who’s Yijin. Then when her grandma points to Yijin she says that’s Baek Yijin ...but then her grandma asks her do you know him? Then Minchaes looks at her with concern then she was flustered and hurriedly said no I don’t know him and walks out.
At first that reaction seem like she just didn’t want her grandma to know she’s been reading about them and that she didn’t know Yijin at all. But what if she did see her dad in the picture she just didn’t know he was also Baek Yijin because she knew him by another name. Then if you start to think about the Alzheimer’s dementia possibility it can be seen like this. If Yijin changed his name then his daughter may not know that he used to be called Baek Yijin. When she first started reading her moms diaries she assumed Yijin was the name of her ex boy friend. So in the scene with her grandma and the picture it was her grandma that first revealed that Yijin was in the picture. It could be that to Minchae it was simply a picture of her mom dad and friends when they were young. But when the grandma said Yijin looks so young there...she then wondered who Yijin was in the picture Cos there were two guys. When her grandma pointed to her dad she then goes ah thats Baek Yijin...could be the first time she realized that she was actually reading about her mom and dad. I think that’s why she was became more invested in their story. But when her grandma asked do you know him? She looked at her grandma with concern Cos why would her grandma ask her if she knows her own dad...now she sees that her grandma forgot that Baek Yijin was her dad and she was showing signs of dementia...that’s why she just hurriedly went along with her grandma so not to make her anxious and left the room.
We see that Yijin was the anchor by 2009, so I agree he probably changed department in 2000. But I think he could also have left the on camera work after Minchae was born that’s why he may not have such a public persona as Minchae was growing up, so she never associated the name Baek Yijin with her dad.
The other clues I had that Yijin and Heedo are end game is the name of her shop... 2521. Just does not make sense to name your shop after a significant time with your ex.
During Heedo’s conversation with her mom about yijins picture...Heedo looked at his picture with such love and fondness, which is not consistent with how you would look at an ex. she only looked disturbed after mom mentioned seeing him the month before so I agree with dementia moment here.
The reason I am convinced about a happy ending now when I was always expecting something sad is because the writers showed us how deep Yijins love for Heedo...I think he would agree to any scheme that would keep them together and give them a peaceful life. So either he simply decided to create a different name as Heedo’s husband or he was adopted and Kim’s his real name...I really doubt he would let a job keep them apart. The only thing thing hat would probably keep him away is death or if She fell in love with someone else....too late to introduce another character now!

When Kim Min-Chae searches for articles, the first few links that cropped up dated 2020 and 2019 listed only Hee Do’s name. The links that followed were dated 2009 which had both Hee Do and Yi Jin mentioned. I am really hoping that this time jump is an indication that Yi Jin changed his name after 2009. And he started using that name also as a reporter. Else wouldn’t the name Yi Jin have appeared in UBS news links after 2009 if he continued to be a reporter. Fingers crossed for a happy ending!

1. Writer Kwon Do-eun is a writer with a talent for reversal. 2. The reason why Hee-do did not act as an adult, but a completely different person. Her father also had a completely different face, so Min-chae did not recognize Baek Lee-jin. 3. Baek Yi-Jin was adopted or Baek Yi-Jin's mother remarried. 4. Na Hee-do and Baek Yi-jin wanted to be known as someone's husband and someone's wife, rather than being known as someone's husband or someone's wife. Just like Na Hee-do's mother, Shin Jae-kyung did. 5. Baek Yi-jin changes his name to Kim**. 6. In episode 14, a young Min-chae's voice is heard saying "Dad". 7. If the ending had been a sad ending, episode 14 would not have been announced in advance.

To start a afresh, I think he took his mom's surname who divorced his dad only on paper so the family will be spared. He might carry Baek onscreen being an anchor but on paper, he carries his mom's surname Kim to spare Min-Chae.
I think you also missed a clue when adult hee-do cannot remember going to the beach especially when it was the only time they went outing with her friends which means that maybe her and her mother may genetically have Alzheimer's disease which also explains why Hee-do and her mom were both in the hospital beds that one time

After watching today episode, I went through a range of emotions because they were showing the 9/11 attack, and I am from NYC, but I still remember it like it was yesterday. Although, I was not living there at the time, it still affected me deeply as a New Yorker. After watching this episode, I am hopeful that Yi Jin and Hee Do will be together. Yi Jin was going through a rough patch being a reporter, and now a foreign correspondent covering more tragedies.

Who the hell is the writer of this story, why does he need to hurt us like this??? I was so frustrated. I haven't date anyone yet but so many dramas broke my heart already but this one is different, it hits hard. I just don't want to accept the thought of hee do marrying someone else. I just finished watching this drama three days ago and I have cried a river all throughout. I’m still heartbroken about the cliffhanger, but after seeing the details such as the photo album,the stuff of Yijin at Heedo’s in present, and the interview part where she said See you later. The line “I regret that we had to break up like that at that time…” made more sense… I hope they make season 2 cause I hated not being able to get closure HAHHAHAHAA 😭💀 Whatever it is, I’d like to see the story between the gap after Heedo’s retirement and Yijin coming back to Korea 🥹 since they both have the same circle of friends it would be impossible for them not to be in contact at all.

I have a bigggggg question.. u know that min chae is 15 years old (episode 8 probably) but in episode 14 na hee do won gold in 2009 and yi Jin congratulates on her wedding.. that means min chae born before her wedding and she continues playing.. but my question is how is that possible? And in one episode when min chae was 5 that means it was 2012( I think) how can director changed her different after 3 year's I really can't understand

In addition, at the very end of the last episode you can see Yi-jin coming back from New York after 15 years. Why should they show such a scene? I think because they met again and then reunited. It just has to be like that! I can't accept that the two didn't come together again

Just read some post that gave more logic and made sense explanation the possibility minchae is yijin and heedo daughter . Yijin’s father divorced his mother in order to prevent his father debts will pass to them, we were shown how suffered yijin because of this and how he worked hard to pay the some of the debts. In 2008, there’s adjustment in law for family registry from patriarchal system to neutral system, women after marriage will change their father’s family registry under their husband family line where divorced mother could have registered their children under the mother family line . Yijin’s mother surname is Kim. In order to prevent any possibilities that Yijin’s father debtors will go after HD who was famous fencer once they know about the marriage , yijin and heedo have to wait until 2009 to legally registered their marriage and yijin used different surname. It explains why minchae is kim minchae because yijin changed his surname. The last scene in ep 14, heedo addressed yijin as “ anchornim”, and there’s no more update info about Baek Yijin anchor after 2009.

I am late to this story but so glad I found it. Amazingly written, acted and directed. After rewatching this drama, looking for the clues to support the ending…..I am also convinced that Yi-Jin and Hee-Do were married and Min Chae is their daughter.
If this doesn't come true, or they don't end up together I'll be crushed.
