Hi Derek, just wanted to say thank you for another great video. Never had a rotax before and with all the your helpful tips and advice videos I've managed to have it running smoothly as. It's only a 125 rotax max that will be used for dirt racing but still puts a smile on my face. Owe you guy's a beer. Thanks again 👍
Hi I have rotax evo I was wondering what would cause the clutch drum to be so hard to come off . Also when the kart is running(idling) is it normal for the back tyers going as well when on the trolley
CJ McGrath the bearing has probably gotten dry. spray some WD40 on the clutch bearing after you have removed the retaining nut and washer. Your idle speed might be set too high. You can change this with the screw on the side of the carby (the one with the spring on it at 90 degrees to the body, just back from the fuel inlet barb) or the throttle cable might be too tight and cracking open the slide slightly. Hope that helps. D
should the Starter wreath (big black thing with the 70 tooth) has to rotate or it will stand still when the engine is running? and what for a function does the clutch have? when do i know its time to replace the clutch? Thanks Derek
Hey Jordy, yes it is the ring gear and it is fixed to the crank shaft. the bendix starter gear throws out and engages with the ring gear to crank the engine on start up. the clutch stops the engine from stalling at low revs. on the Rotax it is ages between replacement, but change them after they wear heaps on the toes of the clutch shoes
Great, thanks! I have one question- in Rotax manual there is an o-ring over big washer. But you don’t have it, and my engine also misses it. Should it be there? Without it a clutch drum is slightly touching gear, and with it clutch drum don’t rotate freely.
Hey Kim, yeah the O ring is for the 12T and up. If you use the 11T front sprocket you can take the o ring out. It doesnt effect the engine on the track but it will spin freely on the stand without the o ring
which Rotax is that? old non Evo? and that filter sticking out on the right at 5:14 is that for the gearbox oil? my senior evo just has a rubber hose sticking out.
After changing a cracked drum for a new one my wheels stoped rotating freely - when you rotate them they are moving a piston. Is it supposed to be like that or I did something wrong? All washers are installed the same way, only thing changed - new drum which looks exactly the same.
Power Republic I looked a bit more and noticed that it almost can rotate freely, but it seems that around 0.1mm is blocking it. The previous drum looks like that way thinner. Should I put some lube on it where drum touches clutch? Or maybe remove that 0.1mm with fine sandpaper?
What can I do. My back tooth plate has come loose from the clutch somehownmbI can't take my front nut off because the engine rotates still. When I lock the engine and then the nut the center part moves with the nut also . I'm at a loss . I'm guessing someone over tightened it now I can't take it off without crank spinning with the nutt also . I locked the wheels up clutch and tried to untwist and the center still moves with it
Easy as broski, get a 'piston stop' www.internationalkarting.com.au/shop/item/tool-for-locking-crankshaft-piston-stop/tools-01 that will stop the crank rotating while you get the nut off. Clean everything, use loctite, and torque the nut back up to 110Nm
Hi there. I would take the clutch drum off the crank shaft and inspect the clutch shoes. If they are the older style, I would suggest updating them to the new steel clutch shoes (the older ones are not worth replacing).
rifar er you can interchange the Senior max and Junior Max Rotax cylinders on any FR125 Rotax bottom end. Assembly. The new Evo engines require you to change the black box ECU however. Hope that answers your question.
I've got like 1 - 1.5 millimetre of play in my front sprocket, is this normal or do I have to tighten the nut some more maybe? And if I allign my sprockets should I allign my rear to the most inward or outward position of the front sprocket (in case the play is us usual)?
Are you talking Rotax or X30? for the Rotax with the 11T front sprocket and bush, if the bush is flogged out then the clutch drum will move in and out. For the X30, when the internal and external thrust washers wear too much, then the the clutch drum will move in and out. Check those things. Hope that helps.
Do you mean 11 tooth or 12 tooth front sprocket? If so, it's the number of teeth on the outside diameter of the front sprocket. The more teeth equal a bigger diameter the front sprocket is and the the higher the Max KPH the kart will achieve with the same engine RPM
According to the Rotax manual, the thrust washer goes first, then the o-ring... I've never actually seen anyone use this o-ring, so can someone tell me the purpose of it and if it is indeed required?
Without the o ring, you can get disqualified, as without it, it allows grease to get into the clutch. Greasing the clutch is a well known cheat in Rotax, but can easily be heard at trackside.
hi Derek, I currently have a 12 tooth drive sprocket fitted to my fr125 max and I want to switch to an 11 tooth, aside from obviously the sprocket....what else do I need to change inside the clutch drum?
Christopher Ramnauth Hi Christopher, You will need an 11T bush (bearing) and 11T retainer washer as they are smaller than the 12T. You can buy them off our website www.powerrepublic.com.au

thanks legend, feel free to make donations on Patreon or TH-cam Memberships. otherwise just watch and 👍 the vids.
Great video Derek, thank you for posting.
My pleasure!
Another informative and straight forward video - well done mate !
Thanks Craig
Great set of videos. Thanks you guys.
you're very welcome Steve

its just a fuel filter attached to some fuel line on the gearbox breather outlet. rubber hose if fine too
Hi Derek what should I do if the thread holding the Retaining nut has been snapped off. Do I need to replace the crank
Bluebird 308 yeah I think so. Send me a photo via email to derek@powerrepublic.com
Should there be movement in and out on the drum and sprocket?
yeah a little clearance between the thrust washers
What’s the difference between a ceramic and organic clutch?
Sir is there any problem with using two different length tie rod?
CRG and birel have a 5mm different length tie rod I believe. you can get an adjustable length tie rod from DPE/Arrow as well if that suits you
Thx

just take out the clutch o ring and see if it spins free again, otherwise have a closer look at the shoes, maybe they are stretched.
Power Republic O ring is out, it happens without it
kim possible new shoes or the old ones have spread out is my guess
Power Republic Thanks, I will look up :)
Your videos are awesome, thx for your work

@@PowerRepublic you're the man
Smoke was coming out of my clutch for about 2 minutes after I took my Rotax Max kart for a short run.
Do you think the clutch is on its way out?

Can i add my rotax fr 125 power valve, which is std cylinder has no power valve

hi Derek, one question again, I didn't see you put the o ring that goes in first before the inner thrust washer....is this not used on the 11 tooth?

Hi is the new clutch better than the old one?
Hi Rodrigo,
Yes the 2009 clutch is a much better solution than older style clutch with to many moving parts that wore out.
Ring Spanner😆
If I remember I call it a wrench 🔧 next time and shout out to ya @reimoncoh

Just having fun😆
I left the “Rattle Gun” alone, I’m sure you noticed
It is a ring spanner, that's what mechanics in the UK call them!
