After all, that's why she dropped out of Yale because she couldn't handle the fact that one person told her she wasn't good enough( a phase she never heard before in her life). And it's silly because the career she chose is all about people's opinions. Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate Rory. I get annoyed with her sometimes but if I hated her I wouldn't watch the show.
same she is a rather frustrating character, even the cast have said in talks that none of the guys in her life were good enough but in many ways it was the other way around. I think it was her not so good side in the revival, she was washed up and did not know what to do because she never pushed enough, she was told by her whole town she was perfect from before she could walk and as soon as a tiny thing went the wrong way she broke and gave up. That is why she was the sort of character you just want to scream at sometimes like dropping out of yale.
This is my interpretation of the whole video: a beautiful young girl with the most innocent blue eyes grows up in a small town, with her single mom. Because she isn't a party girl or goes out and gets into trouble or has a father figure in her life, everyone adores her and tries to protect her at all costs. Nothing wrong with that. But the problem is, this beautiful girl - Rory - wants more in her life. She wants to travel, see the world at large, make connections. But in order to do all these things, you have to be okay with not being okay. You have to be okay with not being comfortable. You have to be okay with people not agreeing with you or even looking out for you, and we DO see Rory exhibit these skills at Chilton. And at 16, it's completely normal to run to your Mom or family to ask for help. Trouble is, her mother - Lorelai - always goes above and beyond in trying to help Rory instead of letting her figure things out on her own. I had incredible respect for Rory when she refused her mother's help in talking about Paris to someone and she said she would deal with that on her own. THAT is what should have been encouraged in Rory all throughout. But her mother always goes overboard in trying to protect her little angel. Rory has acted out several times, like when Dean broke up with her and the whole town was blaming Dean, or when she got into the accident with Jess and the whole town was vilifying Jess, Rory was practically screaming at everyone to get them to understand that she was just as much to blame... but people kept shutting her out. What do you think is going to happen? Like in the video itself, you can tell that Lor is shocked with her kid being arrested - any parent would! - but it's almost like she refuses to believe that her precious little Rory can be a criminal. That's understandable but you can't deny reality and the reality is that Rory isn't infallible. She is a flawed human being just like everyone else but her family and her friends have been telling her whole life that she is perfect. So when you are out on your own for the first time and see that not everyone is going to always like or even appreciate you, it hits you hard. I think ASP did an EXCELLENT job of portraying just that. This video is incredibly touching. I still adore Rory and I think she is a good person at heart. I don't think her intention was ever to hurt anybody. She just didn't get the proper guidance every child needs in their formative years so that when they grow up, they learn that life isn't always about getting the world to give you something but how YOU can give back to the world.
It's funny how either liked or hated it was. I liked it. I think it was very true to form. It wasn't cutesy Gilmore Girls (for the most part) ... it's what happens when life isn't perfect GG. Aside from a few missteps, I see myself in the current Rory. Out of college, lost, struggling to find exactly how to live. I mean I didn't sleep with inappropriate people, or somehow spend thousands in air travel, or the lack of Lane which annoyed me.... but a lot of what happened to her happened to me. I think her character was supposed to represent the world of today for a lot of younger ladies and guys too. We go to school, but life doesn't work necessarily. I think you showed that well here with the back and forth moments you between (past and present). oxoxo
The reactions have been interesting:D I was curious at first and actually quite impressed with how they made Rory's problems to be the problems of today people of our age have. She had the means to have it all, but then she chose the path that led nowhere. And I guess that's what we face today. We try to succeed by the same route our parents did but it just doesn't work that way in this world. And we feel like failures and that causes a load of new problems. My biggest problem was the way Rory acted because it just felt very unlikeable and like she hadn't matured at all in that time. She couldn't even get one idea out of her during that job interview? I can see why, because it wasn't her passion, but wasting opportunities like that and acting entitled was really frustrating to watch. I read your post about your journey and I feel you. I mean, I spent 10 years in university because I started to realize I wasn't where I was supposed to be and the walls started closing in and the clock kept ticking. Made quite a few videos when I could have been studying:D I wish you the best on your journey.
I do not think the same, having sex with someone married, committed etc, I think it's just disgusting, I really can not stand it, and this goes for both sexes.
Just had to say some ppl either are too narrow-minded to understand other ppl's choices in life or too judgmental that they think, everyone should always, I mean, always has to take the "right" path in life. The best way to learn is through experience. We shouldn't be afraid to do things that are different from others. Rory may be adrift at the moment, but as Logan once told her, "things will be looking up!" Be an optimist🙏
I agree with most of that but as you say, it's not the fact that she felt "lost" that was the problem, it's the affair with Logan and the whole thing with Paul etc. It just felt UNrealistic and unpleasant.

Mateo Airaudo here’s why I think Rory Gilmore succeeded. We all thought Rory who be a successful journalist after she was done with college but turns out she was not. She was what you said about her a 32 year old who did not a steady job. She was used to getting things handed to her. So after college she had no one to guide her or handed things to her so that were her life went crazy. But I can’t say Rory Gilmore do not succeed. Rory’s life didn’t that her to the path she and everyone else though it would but it took her time to find out that journalisms wasn’t her patience but writing her own book was. Life does not alway take you to the path you wanted to go but doesn’t mean you wouldn’t succeed. So yeah Rory didn’t become a journalist but she became someone who has there own book and has a kid so yeah I would call that success.
We are all products of the environment our parents provided for us, for the most part. Lorelai, despite all her good intentions, didn't really do a good job of being a good role model for her daughter. Rory said she always wanted to emulate her. The problem with that was Lorelai was rebellious. She wanted a different life for herself and Rory. She found the kind of life her parents provided for her restrictive. The funny thing was she also tried to restrict Rory's choices in life. Her daughter loved her so much that she pretty much did what her mom wanted, until Logan came along that she can no longer control Rory. Even her choice to take a short break from college, Lorelai took that as an affront to the dream they always had together. She said for the last 32 years she's been the "queen of understanding". We all know that isn't true. Rory also tried to understand her even when she did crazy things like dating her teacher without her knowledge at a time when she was at a vulnerable age and still adjusting to the life at a new school. She was always dating these different men, but always being non-committal when the time comes. She finally made a commitment to Luke, only going back to Chris when Luke didn't take well to her ulrimatum. Whew!Rory had a hard time saying "I love you to Dean"? Why ? Well, she once asked her mom if she loves Christopher, her dad. Lorelai said she will always love her dad and yet she didn't want Chris' presence in their lives when Rory was in high school. At the time, Rory wanted her dad to live with them. In Rory's mind, sometimes love isn't enough to commit yourself to someone. Anyway, that's my take on Rory🌹
i feel so close to rory. its amazing how much i love lorelai and i see myself in lorelai but somehow rory's story is the one i feel so close to and i can connect to her on some different level. it probably because we are on almost the same level in life. this video is amazing. i love your vids like that. so emotional and so inspiring and so true. you are killing me every time.
Yup, sorry my comment is a little late. I also see things from Rory's point of view. I grew up without a dad ( my mom's choice too). I've tried to understand her choice to do that, but I would have liked to have grown up with a dad beside me too. Anyway, I also excelled in school, a reader, but certainly I'm no Rory in looks. She's just gorgeous in every way. What I'm trying to say is I also turned down a proposal at an early age 'cause I wanted to see what was waiting for me out there. We do things for a reason. Later on, we may say to ourselves "that was wrong of me to have done that". Still, if it felt right at the time, there shouldn't be any regrets. It is called Life and it is what we make it. Aside from the fact that I´m a guy, I used to find Rory so flawed yet so inspirational and relatable too. Now, I just see a total let down of what one day was one of the sweetest tv characters ever. Her arc is no realistic at all, at least to me. I was also raised in a sheltered environment, so I know what´s like going out in the world and feeling totally lost and alone once you become an adult. That´s why Rory´s journey really appalled me.
This is great. It shows her story in the past and the future perfect. You've included all her relationships and her struggle with some of them very well. And I really love the ending because I think her relationship with her grandfather was the healthiest and innocentest one. I love this video.
this tv show has written my transition to childhood to teenage years. It's been a great journey and a great way to grow up w an example of girl that was shy, bookworm, passionate about music and movies. It made me feel less alone,stronger, and sorta of comprehended. This was a gem of a show, definetly unique , you don't see often shows like that nowadays. Your video is very very beautiful.
Could not agree more. I watched this show on Netflix last year and made me feel less alone too, as I´m kind of a loner who also adores music and films. The original GG. has become one of my favourite series ever and it helped me during not so great moments. Last year I was going through a difficult academic period at my university and watching Gilmore Girls made my smile and feel better when I was very sad. It had some sort of a bittersweet yet magical warm vibe that it hooked me in a way that I started loving the characters almost as they were actually real.
This is great !!! Gilmore Girls is one of those shows that you grow attached to and get attached to all the characters this is a great summer at of her life !! Keep going I want to see more 😍
Ahhh Suvi this was beautiful. You know I heard a theory that seasons 1-7 of GG were not actual reality; Rory's book that she wrote in AYITL was her "romanticized" (if you will) telling of her & Lorelai's lives (which is what we saw in seasons 1-7) but who Rory is in AYITL is the "real" Rory and that's why Lorelai got so upset and was against Rory writing the book (not knowing Rory had changed their actual stories). I don't know how I feel about that... lol. It kinda felt like a punch to the gut, if I'm being honest, lol. Regardless of how they completely mangled her character in AYITL, I like to think that s1-7 Rory WAS the "real" Rory and, maybe she just lost herself a little bit over the years but hopefully will find her way back. I don't know. le sigh. Anyway, your video is gorgeous, regardless
I think perhaps it's just romantized in our heads. Because when I look back there were a lot of red flags. Rory had her dream about becoming a journalist and it was never really challenged until Logan's dad put it out there. Until then Lorelai let Rory live in her safe bubble and even during her crisis Rory ran to Emily and Richard for her other safe bubble where she was the improved Lorelai. She never really stopped to think what her strengths and weaknesses were. Now the real Rory we see in AYITL is just Rory who is no longer cute. The boys won't do absolutely anything to get her attention and Logan is letting go since she won't put her feelings out there. She's a grown up but won't own up to it. I think she'll find her way but it will just take her longer because she had it too easy before. Thank you:))
Supsi85 huh. That's an interesting POV as well. I guess I never paid THAT much attention to Rory (what can I say, my heart has belonged to Lorelai since the start, lol!) but if I were to say do a video about Rory and really go through a lot of her key scenes I bet I would pick up on a lot of stuff I hadn't before.
I think I'd be the same if I'd watched it now. Now I'm definitely more about Luke and Lorelai and Emily. But I started watching the show when I was around the same age as Rory and I just related to her a lot and kinda looked up to her, saw her as this better version of myself that I *could* be. But at the same time I did notice all those little things that bothered me. I just never thought they'd add up in a way that they did in this revival. Take Dean for example. When they broke up she visited him behind that window and I always thought it was more for her, because she couldn't stand having someone be mad at her like this. It was the first time her choices affected someone this way. And then even when they moved on she still thought he belonged to her in some way and so she didn't think twice about starting that affair with him. I thought maybe she'd learned from the aftermath but here we are at it again with Logan. She keeps falling back into those safe places where she doesn't have to fully invest in. Now with the pregnancy she might have that turning point.
You say, Suvi, that her dream of being a journalist was never really challenged until Mitchum but I find it interesting that my favorite episode of the show, if I had to pick one, has usually been 2x19 "Teach Me Tonight" which has Jess explicitly challenge that her personality type is at all suited for being the type of journalist she wants to be. He's not trying to be mean but she takes it so personally that he feels compelled to backtrack and say never mind I'm sure you'll be great but it lingers in the air uncomfortably until she changes the subject with all the subtlety of a ton of bricks... and it's a moment that rings true enough that even not knowing the future the show is leading to, it kind of hurts and feels like Jess has a point. Rory clearly can tell he has a point. More than that, Rory is not particularly selfish or entitled after that point in the episode. She might be partially trying not to get in trouble but it seems like she's trying to shield her mother's feelings by softening the blow before telling her what happened, and she is relatively unfazed by what could've been emotionally a trauma. She even quietly accepts that Jess is gone at the end with the same kind of reserved disappointment as she has in the revival at many points. It's a private feeling for her alone to process. Idk, I mean... I'll always have a lot of Rory feelings. I have been told when I wrote a very short Fanfiction oneshot about Rory & Luke that people liked how I wrote Luke finding a way to blame himself for everything that went wrong at the end of season 3 with Jess while Rory was putting all the blame on Jess himself, not considering blaming herself in the same way. I hadn't thought about Rory in those explicit terms before that comment, it just felt natural to me that Rory kind of is that person who doesn't think too many things are really her own fault, who doesn't wallow in guilt... even after she sleeps with married!Dean she acts a little more like a victim than like anything was a bad decision on her own part. But idk... one of my least favorite continuity errors is people repeatedly telling Rory after 3x07 when Dean broke up with her at the Dance Marathon that she broke up with him, because it's such an odd thing for the writers too be painting as the narrative, at one point Rory even says she broke up with him and shouldn't have, like it was her own decision. As if all that passivity that defines her and made that love triangle surprisngly unique in some ways, her desperation to not be that person who breaks up with someone she doesn't have any good logical reason NOT to want to be with anymore, is completely forgotten behind the scenes in the writers' room. I think not just revivals but many shows that go on too long, for too many seasons, fall into the trap of rewriting a plot we already saw, like Rory not having it in her to break up with a guy who's a good person even if she doesn't love him. It's like they can only think of so many things that are in character for her so they just do it again. idk.
I think I vaguely remember that Jess moment now! Interesting. Maybe they indeed tricked us by having Rory be this super successful student but all the while planted her on a road that she couldn't be successful in. It was just so clear in my head that no matter what she'll do she'll make it, like Lorelai thought as well. There was a moment in the finale where she tells Lane she worries she'll be a terrible journalist and why does everyone have this unwavering faith in her. I would have included that had it been Amy's idea to put it there but I've no idea if it's just a coincidence lol. That's weird that everyone says Rory broke up with him. Although I guess Dean never wanted to break up with her. Even here in the revival it feels like he would just take her back if there was an opportunity. Because what drove him away was Rory's dreams that he felt like he was an outsider and not good enough. When in the end he would have been just about right for her:D
It was so beautiful. So good that it made me feel pity for Rory situation. Like before your video the only thing i could see was that she didn't grow up, making the same stupid mistake and hurting people, but the music and your beautiful editing made me feel more compassion for Rory than the revival.

I love what you did with this beautiful song, you made such a touching and sad video that captured Rory's character in a different way than what I usually see in GG fanvids. I think that a lot of people (including me) had a problem with Rory in the revival because she didn't really grow up and learned from her mistakes in the previous seasons (like seen in your video), but this video made me have a softer spot for her character in the revival and I kinda needed that because it was a little hard for me to empathize with her in the revival.So thank you for this great video, beautiful editing and voiceovers, you did a great job
I cried. A lot! Of all the things that went wrong in the revival Rory's character development was the one that devastated me the most . I kept hoping she will be better until last minute & didn't happen. Now that I'm watching your video with her at the first seasons with that song I can't control my emotions. She was a character that I related the most . She wasn't flawless but she had empathy for ppl. Now she's the opposite. Of course I disapprove her cheating but what made me even more mad was that she made fun of that poor guy Paul. I loved your video so much! That made me see the revival a lot different because they pictured it more realistic, nothing is flowers and rainbows as you grow older, everything becomes harder...

Wow I love this so much. I've been of thinking of making a Rory character tribute myself since the revival but I never thought of so many these parallels between original show and AYITL, all these little things like her and the sadness with/after a phone call front steps of that house just feel so powerful watching it in this video of yours. and the way you used this particular song, showed Logan taking an imaginary photograph of her and then the immediate aftermath as her face drops... honestly I always saw a lot of myself, at least my personality, in Rory, and that was one thing I kind of still felt in the revival with Alexis's acting, with the way she reacted to life. Some of the overall plots and choices she made frustrated me much like season 5 Rory frustrated me when she wanted the jerk guy over Marty and I couldn't relate lol but the actual feelings & emotions she tended to have still resonated and made the journey of the revival all the more painful, in a way. I really like how you capture here so much of the revival in a way that makes sense compared to the rest of the show and that calls back so many other uncomfortable and painful moments throughout. I love your editing of facial expressions and the subtle moments you manage to capture that so few can, all while matching lyrics and picking out brilliant voiceovers. The ending here seems kind of abrupt and not in tone with the rest of the video but that little Richard scene makes me think more about Rory and if she's really "fine", or OK at all, now (at the end of the revival) or something...
Thank you so much:D At the end I wanted to show that no matter how those studies and careers go, at the end of the day the family relationships that have been important to us remain. When I watched the show I was really invested in Rory's success and wasn't thinking about how the show is more about these mother daughter relationships. I think the revival resonated with me in similar ways as with you. You could tell Rory wanted to scream she didn't want to be in this situation but she couldn't quite break free. Very painful to watch and easy to relate to.

It's 4 episodes 90 minutes each. I think it should be on Netflix for a while yeah...I mean they never tell us how long. I live in Finland but I think it was released worldwide.
I'm already on disc 3 episode 10 or 11 so I'm getting thru it pretty well so far. I heard that it keeps getting better throughout 5& into season 6&7 is that true? I've never known anyone from Finland before wow! Is life a lot different there than in the United States? I can't wait to watch the revival at some point & hopefully it'll still be on Netflix once I have time to watch it.

this video is incredible, writing after 5 years) and gilmore girls is the most comfortable show for me! everyone has already said about Rory, so I want to express my opinion about Lorelai. reviewing this show, I will say that she is not the perfect mother as I used to think. I love both Rory and Lorelai, but we can't change the fact that, like the rest of the town, Lorelai was too uplifting for Rory. I understand all this because a young mother of 16 with a child in her arms, everyone tried to help. and to be honest, I would not call Lorelai the most understanding mother in the world. Until a certain point, Rory didn’t do anything that her mother might not like, but as soon as she wanted to meet with Jess and so on, Lorelai ceased to be an “understanding mother” (which she was not). or wanting to drop out of college (I really don't see it as a big deal that Rory, who has been studying all her life, wants to take a break), but what a big reaction! of course Lorelai supported Rory and was a good mom, but personally I often see selfishness in many actions (don't kill me for that). this is just how I see it🤷🏽♀️
I think although u didnt enjoy watching rorys downfall, I believe it made it a lot more realistic. She spent the earlier seasons and her childhood trying to be little miss perfect for everyone and then by the end of season four she started slipping through the cracks until when in ayitl she completely broke

In the end, Mitchum was right about her. As difficult as it is for all the fans of the original show, he was 100% correct.
I don't think anyone hated Rory, it's just that we all had big hopes for her just like everyone in the show.

Trouble is, her mother - Lorelai - always goes above and beyond in trying to help Rory instead of letting her figure things out on her own. I had incredible respect for Rory when she refused her mother's help in talking about Paris to someone and she said she would deal with that on her own. THAT is what should have been encouraged in Rory all throughout. But her mother always goes overboard in trying to protect her little angel. Rory has acted out several times, like when Dean broke up with her and the whole town was blaming Dean, or when she got into the accident with Jess and the whole town was vilifying Jess, Rory was practically screaming at everyone to get them to understand that she was just as much to blame... but people kept shutting her out. What do you think is going to happen?
Like in the video itself, you can tell that Lor is shocked with her kid being arrested - any parent would! - but it's almost like she refuses to believe that her precious little Rory can be a criminal. That's understandable but you can't deny reality and the reality is that Rory isn't infallible. She is a flawed human being just like everyone else but her family and her friends have been telling her whole life that she is perfect. So when you are out on your own for the first time and see that not everyone is going to always like or even appreciate you, it hits you hard. I think ASP did an EXCELLENT job of portraying just that.
This video is incredibly touching. I still adore Rory and I think she is a good person at heart. I don't think her intention was ever to hurt anybody. She just didn't get the proper guidance every child needs in their formative years so that when they grow up, they learn that life isn't always about getting the world to give you something but how YOU can give back to the world.
It's funny how either liked or hated it was. I liked it. I think it was very true to form. It wasn't cutesy Gilmore Girls (for the most part) ... it's what happens when life isn't perfect GG. Aside from a few missteps, I see myself in the current Rory. Out of college, lost, struggling to find exactly how to live. I mean I didn't sleep with inappropriate people, or somehow spend thousands in air travel, or the lack of Lane which annoyed me.... but a lot of what happened to her happened to me. I think her character was supposed to represent the world of today for a lot of younger ladies and guys too. We go to school, but life doesn't work necessarily. I think you showed that well here with the back and forth moments you between (past and present). oxoxo
The reactions have been interesting:D I was curious at first and actually quite impressed with how they made Rory's problems to be the problems of today people of our age have. She had the means to have it all, but then she chose the path that led nowhere. And I guess that's what we face today. We try to succeed by the same route our parents did but it just doesn't work that way in this world. And we feel like failures and that causes a load of new problems. My biggest problem was the way Rory acted because it just felt very unlikeable and like she hadn't matured at all in that time. She couldn't even get one idea out of her during that job interview? I can see why, because it wasn't her passion, but wasting opportunities like that and acting entitled was really frustrating to watch.
I read your post about your journey and I feel you. I mean, I spent 10 years in university because I started to realize I wasn't where I was supposed to be and the walls started closing in and the clock kept ticking. Made quite a few videos when I could have been studying:D I wish you the best on your journey.

I agree with most of that but as you say, it's not the fact that she felt "lost" that was the problem, it's the affair with Logan and the whole thing with Paul etc. It just felt UNrealistic and unpleasant.

Mateo Airaudo here’s why I think Rory Gilmore succeeded. We all thought Rory who be a successful journalist after she was done with college but turns out she was not. She was what you said about her a 32 year old who did not a steady job. She was used to getting things handed to her. So after college she had no one to guide her or handed things to her so that were her life went crazy. But I can’t say Rory Gilmore do not succeed. Rory’s life didn’t that her to the path she and everyone else though it would but it took her time to find out that journalisms wasn’t her patience but writing her own book was. Life does not alway take you to the path you wanted to go but doesn’t mean you wouldn’t succeed. So yeah Rory didn’t become a journalist but she became someone who has there own book and has a kid so yeah I would call that success.

Love the ending with her Grandfather was cute.
We are all products of the environment our parents provided for us, for the most part. Lorelai, despite all her good intentions, didn't really do a good job of being a good role model for her daughter. Rory said she always wanted to emulate her. The problem with that was Lorelai was rebellious. She wanted a different life for herself and Rory. She found the kind of life her parents provided for her restrictive. The funny thing was she also tried to restrict Rory's choices in life. Her daughter loved her so much that she pretty much did what her mom wanted, until Logan came along that she can no longer control Rory. Even her choice to take a short break from college, Lorelai took that as an affront to the dream they always had together. She said for the last 32 years she's been the "queen of understanding". We all know that isn't true. Rory also tried to understand her even when she did crazy things like dating her teacher without her knowledge at a time when she was at a vulnerable age and still adjusting to the life at a new school. She was always dating these different men, but always being non-committal when the time comes. She finally made a commitment to Luke, only going back to Chris when Luke didn't take well to her ulrimatum. Whew!Rory had a hard time saying "I love you to Dean"? Why ? Well, she once asked her mom if she loves Christopher, her dad. Lorelai said she will always love her dad and yet she didn't want Chris' presence in their lives when Rory was in high school. At the time, Rory wanted her dad to live with them. In Rory's mind, sometimes love isn't enough to commit yourself to someone. Anyway, that's my take on Rory🌹
i feel so close to rory. its amazing how much i love lorelai and i see myself in lorelai but somehow rory's story is the one i feel so close to and i can connect to her on some different level. it probably because we are on almost the same level in life. this video is amazing. i love your vids like that. so emotional and so inspiring and so true. you are killing me every time.

Yup, sorry my comment is a little late. I also see things from Rory's point of view. I grew up without a dad ( my mom's choice too). I've tried to understand her choice to do that, but I would have liked to have grown up with a dad beside me too. Anyway, I also excelled in school, a reader, but certainly I'm no Rory in looks. She's just gorgeous in every way. What I'm trying to say is I also turned down a proposal at an early age 'cause I wanted to see what was waiting for me out there. We do things for a reason. Later on, we may say to ourselves "that was wrong of me to have done that". Still, if it felt right at the time, there shouldn't be any regrets. It is called Life and it is what we make it. Cheers for Rory and other women like her for having chosen their own path in life!!!🌹💐🌺
Aside from the fact that I´m a guy, I used to find Rory so flawed yet so inspirational and relatable too. Now, I just see a total let down of what one day was one of the sweetest tv characters ever. Her arc is no realistic at all, at least to me. I was also raised in a sheltered environment, so I know what´s like going out in the world and feeling totally lost and alone once you become an adult. That´s why Rory´s journey really appalled me.

I *need* more gilmore girls in my life
this tv show has written my transition to childhood to teenage years. It's been a great journey and a great way to grow up w an example of girl that was shy, bookworm, passionate about music and movies. It made me feel less alone,stronger, and sorta of comprehended. This was a gem of a show, definetly unique , you don't see often shows like that nowadays. Your video is very very beautiful.
Could not agree more. I watched this show on Netflix last year and made me feel less alone too, as I´m kind of a loner who also adores music and films. The original GG. has become one of my favourite series ever and it helped me during not so great moments. Last year I was going through a difficult academic period at my university and watching Gilmore Girls made my smile and feel better when I was very sad. It had some sort of a bittersweet yet magical warm vibe that it hooked me in a way that I started loving the characters almost as they were actually real.

Ahhh Suvi this was beautiful. You know I heard a theory that seasons 1-7 of GG were not actual reality; Rory's book that she wrote in AYITL was her "romanticized" (if you will) telling of her & Lorelai's lives (which is what we saw in seasons 1-7) but who Rory is in AYITL is the "real" Rory and that's why Lorelai got so upset and was against Rory writing the book (not knowing Rory had changed their actual stories). I don't know how I feel about that... lol. It kinda felt like a punch to the gut, if I'm being honest, lol. Regardless of how they completely mangled her character in AYITL, I like to think that s1-7 Rory WAS the "real" Rory and, maybe she just lost herself a little bit over the years but hopefully will find her way back. I don't know. le sigh.

I think perhaps it's just romantized in our heads. Because when I look back there were a lot of red flags. Rory had her dream about becoming a journalist and it was never really challenged until Logan's dad put it out there. Until then Lorelai let Rory live in her safe bubble and even during her crisis Rory ran to Emily and Richard for her other safe bubble where she was the improved Lorelai. She never really stopped to think what her strengths and weaknesses were. Now the real Rory we see in AYITL is just Rory who is no longer cute. The boys won't do absolutely anything to get her attention and Logan is letting go since she won't put her feelings out there. She's a grown up but won't own up to it. I think she'll find her way but it will just take her longer because she had it too easy before. Thank you:))

I guess I never paid THAT much attention to Rory (what can I say, my heart has belonged to Lorelai since the start, lol!) but if I were to say do a video about Rory and really go through a lot of her key scenes I bet I would pick up on a lot of stuff I hadn't before.
I think I'd be the same if I'd watched it now. Now I'm definitely more about Luke and Lorelai and Emily. But I started watching the show when I was around the same age as Rory and I just related to her a lot and kinda looked up to her, saw her as this better version of myself that I *could* be. But at the same time I did notice all those little things that bothered me. I just never thought they'd add up in a way that they did in this revival. Take Dean for example. When they broke up she visited him behind that window and I always thought it was more for her, because she couldn't stand having someone be mad at her like this. It was the first time her choices affected someone this way. And then even when they moved on she still thought he belonged to her in some way and so she didn't think twice about starting that affair with him. I thought maybe she'd learned from the aftermath but here we are at it again with Logan. She keeps falling back into those safe places where she doesn't have to fully invest in. Now with the pregnancy she might have that turning point.
You say, Suvi, that her dream of being a journalist was never really challenged until Mitchum but I find it interesting that my favorite episode of the show, if I had to pick one, has usually been 2x19 "Teach Me Tonight" which has Jess explicitly challenge that her personality type is at all suited for being the type of journalist she wants to be. He's not trying to be mean but she takes it so personally that he feels compelled to backtrack and say never mind I'm sure you'll be great but it lingers in the air uncomfortably until she changes the subject with all the subtlety of a ton of bricks... and it's a moment that rings true enough that even not knowing the future the show is leading to, it kind of hurts and feels like Jess has a point. Rory clearly can tell he has a point.
More than that, Rory is not particularly selfish or entitled after that point in the episode. She might be partially trying not to get in trouble but it seems like she's trying to shield her mother's feelings by softening the blow before telling her what happened, and she is relatively unfazed by what could've been emotionally a trauma. She even quietly accepts that Jess is gone at the end with the same kind of reserved disappointment as she has in the revival at many points. It's a private feeling for her alone to process.
Idk, I mean... I'll always have a lot of Rory feelings. I have been told when I wrote a very short Fanfiction oneshot about Rory & Luke that people liked how I wrote Luke finding a way to blame himself for everything that went wrong at the end of season 3 with Jess while Rory was putting all the blame on Jess himself, not considering blaming herself in the same way. I hadn't thought about Rory in those explicit terms before that comment, it just felt natural to me that Rory kind of is that person who doesn't think too many things are really her own fault, who doesn't wallow in guilt... even after she sleeps with married!Dean she acts a little more like a victim than like anything was a bad decision on her own part. But idk...
one of my least favorite continuity errors is people repeatedly telling Rory after 3x07 when Dean broke up with her at the Dance Marathon that she broke up with him, because it's such an odd thing for the writers too be painting as the narrative, at one point Rory even says she broke up with him and shouldn't have, like it was her own decision. As if all that passivity that defines her and made that love triangle surprisngly unique in some ways, her desperation to not be that person who breaks up with someone she doesn't have any good logical reason NOT to want to be with anymore, is completely forgotten behind the scenes in the writers' room.
I think not just revivals but many shows that go on too long, for too many seasons, fall into the trap of rewriting a plot we already saw, like Rory not having it in her to break up with a guy who's a good person even if she doesn't love him. It's like they can only think of so many things that are in character for her so they just do it again. idk.
I think I vaguely remember that Jess moment now! Interesting. Maybe they indeed tricked us by having Rory be this super successful student but all the while planted her on a road that she couldn't be successful in. It was just so clear in my head that no matter what she'll do she'll make it, like Lorelai thought as well. There was a moment in the finale where she tells Lane she worries she'll be a terrible journalist and why does everyone have this unwavering faith in her. I would have included that had it been Amy's idea to put it there but I've no idea if it's just a coincidence lol.
That's weird that everyone says Rory broke up with him. Although I guess Dean never wanted to break up with her. Even here in the revival it feels like he would just take her back if there was an opportunity. Because what drove him away was Rory's dreams that he felt like he was an outsider and not good enough. When in the end he would have been just about right for her:D

It was so beautiful. So good that it made me feel pity for Rory situation. Like before your video the only thing i could see was that she didn't grow up, making the same stupid mistake and hurting people, but the music and your beautiful editing made me feel more compassion for Rory than the revival.

I love what you did with this beautiful song, you made such a touching and sad video that captured Rory's character in a different way than what I usually see in GG fanvids. I think that a lot of people (including me) had a problem with Rory in the revival because she didn't really grow up and learned from her mistakes in the previous seasons (like seen in your video), but this video made me have a softer spot for her character in the revival and I kinda needed that because it was a little hard for me to empathize with her in the revival.So thank you for this great video, beautiful editing and voiceovers, you did a great job

Of all the things that went wrong in the revival Rory's character development was the one that devastated me the most . I kept hoping she will be better until last minute & didn't happen. Now that I'm watching your video with her at the first seasons with that song I can't control my emotions. She was a character that I related the most . She wasn't flawless but she had empathy for ppl. Now she's the opposite. Of course I disapprove her cheating but what made me even more mad was that she made fun of that poor guy Paul.

Wow I love this so much. I've been of thinking of making a Rory character tribute myself since the revival but I never thought of so many these parallels between original show and AYITL, all these little things like her and the sadness with/after a phone call front steps of that house just feel so powerful watching it in this video of yours. and the way you used this particular song, showed Logan taking an imaginary photograph of her and then the immediate aftermath as her face drops...
honestly I always saw a lot of myself, at least my personality, in Rory, and that was one thing I kind of still felt in the revival with Alexis's acting, with the way she reacted to life. Some of the overall plots and choices she made frustrated me much like season 5 Rory frustrated me when she wanted the jerk guy over Marty and I couldn't relate lol but the actual feelings & emotions she tended to have still resonated and made the journey of the revival all the more painful, in a way. I really like how you capture here so much of the revival in a way that makes sense compared to the rest of the show and that calls back so many other uncomfortable and painful moments throughout. I love your editing of facial expressions and the subtle moments you manage to capture that so few can, all while matching lyrics and picking out brilliant voiceovers. The ending here seems kind of abrupt and not in tone with the rest of the video but that little Richard scene makes me think more about Rory and if she's really "fine", or OK at all, now (at the end of the revival) or something...
Thank you so much:D At the end I wanted to show that no matter how those studies and careers go, at the end of the day the family relationships that have been important to us remain. When I watched the show I was really invested in Rory's success and wasn't thinking about how the show is more about these mother daughter relationships. I think the revival resonated with me in similar ways as with you. You could tell Rory wanted to scream she didn't want to be in this situation but she couldn't quite break free. Very painful to watch and easy to relate to.

this video is incredible, writing after 5 years) and gilmore girls is the most comfortable show for me! everyone has already said about Rory, so I want to express my opinion about Lorelai. reviewing this show, I will say that she is not the perfect mother as I used to think. I love both Rory and Lorelai, but we can't change the fact that, like the rest of the town, Lorelai was too uplifting for Rory. I understand all this because a young mother of 16 with a child in her arms, everyone tried to help. and to be honest, I would not call Lorelai the most understanding mother in the world. Until a certain point, Rory didn’t do anything that her mother might not like, but as soon as she wanted to meet with Jess and so on, Lorelai ceased to be an “understanding mother” (which she was not). or wanting to drop out of college (I really don't see it as a big deal that Rory, who has been studying all her life, wants to take a break), but what a big reaction! of course Lorelai supported Rory and was a good mom, but personally I often see selfishness in many actions (don't kill me for that). this is just how I see it🤷🏽♀️

She spent the earlier seasons and her childhood trying to be little miss perfect for everyone and then by the end of season four she started slipping through the cracks until when in ayitl she completely broke
