Altair was from the middle east, Ezio was from Italy, Bayek was from Egypt, Connor was from America, Alexios and Kassandra were Greek, Jacob and Evie were from the U.K., Edward Kenway was an English pirate. But Yasuke, a game set in Japan, the main character is African. Ask yourself why do you think that is when there is long established pattern of that NOT being how these games are made.
Don't forget that 3 started with Haytham, an English Colonist, and then transitioned into Connor as a Native American, covering both sides of the War of American Independance. And Edward being Welsh, which was one of the largest demographics making up pirates at the time. Shay? Irish, who were a massive immigrant group to the Americas. During the French Revolution who did we play? That's right, Arno, a Frenchman! During the viking invasions of England we played as a viking! And if we look at the Chronicals series we have a Chinese woman, a Russian man, and an Indian man in China, Russia, and India respectively. It's almost like every protagonist up to this point was of the most relevant cultural group to what was being explored, and that Yasuke is not a member of any relevant culture to Japan. If they wanted an "outsider" protagonist for Japan, then they should have chosen one of the few groups that were trading with Japan at the time. But it's not actually about that outsider perspective. It's about racism against the Japanese.
Slight correction, Yusuke wasn't African either. That's why adding hip hop music whenever he shows up is even more hilarious. We don't know his exact origin, but the actual Japanese historians say he was an islander. There's no evidence he had ever seen or visited Africa in his lifetime. So in an attempt to be inclusive they projected rap culture and African hairstyles onto his character just because he was black, without doing the most basic research to realize he had no ties to Africa.
@@Loserstakethebait Yasuke was said to wound up there from Portuguese Empire, no? And let's not forget German and Italy later on cough!). He might be African by blood but he might as well had been brought to P.E as sl4ve? No one knows. P.E did rule the indian oceans and 'The Indies' around this time, he might have been bought from Africa or his parents bought from Africa to work in those colonies. Funny thing is, if they just made a "generic" AC with the proven formula, without being "bold and brave" with a bi sexual black samurai, and humbly listened to their CUSTOMER's feedback, they would have gotten a sure hit that would have give them lots of money. But no, they went full arrogant mentally handicapped and that will cost them dearly.
Yasuke is such a blank that they can pretty much make him whatever they want imo. I still don't think this whole uproar is deserved when we don't know what most of the game even IS. I don't see the "cultural disrespect" when we do not KNOW how the culture is being portrayed, or how much they deviate from history. Plus, alternate history narratives happen ALL THE TIME. AC has done it for ages.
Again, the issues is that they tried pushing Yasuke as a Samurai not as an alternative history thing but as a samurai in the real world Ubisoft is fucked and rightly so, because let's remember DEI is not why a game fails but it's the first sign of a failed game

For years, we've had diverse characters. That was never the problem. The problem is these activists keep making diversity propaganda the main platform and then act surprised when no one wants to pay for that. When the PlayStation was on it's first generation, you had options like Burger King's Sneak King (2 million copies sold for $3.99 and a value meal) and Squaresoft's Final Fantasy VII. Sneak King was comically novel, but if you had to pick only one to add to your library, most people would probably pick the seventh "Final" Fantasy.

And then, since the vast majority of the fantasy genre is based around European or Asian history, they wouldn't 'organically' have black people either. It really says a lot about Twitter as a whole when all it takes is for one native person to come out and claim that they're an expert and they all instantly believe that he is objectively correct on the account of his ethnicity.
Tolkien started the Lord of the Rings concept as a self-driven want for the English and British peoples to have their own mythology stories again and as a bed time story for his children. It was meant to be a direct criticism of Great Britain's past as the colonial ploy of mainland Europe. In a world where everyone was complaining about Great Britain spreading western values across the world, he released Lord of the Rings as a subtle reminder that the historical natives of the island were repeatedly conquered and controlled by European powers.
@@Rexhunterj Exactly. He was mad that he didn't have any folk tales of his own homeland to tell his kids, so he deliberately created his own to give to his culture. Elven was created as a self-test of etymology in the form of creating his own language from scratch. The Silmarillion was created in order to give his language a history. The Hobbit was created as a bed time story. Lord of the Rings was created in order to tie everything together as his own cultural gift to Britain.
@@ShaggyRogers1 It's mostly taken from Norse mythology though, even the world elf, and their description as beings off light and everything. And dwarfs too for that matter, he even used Norse runes for the dwarven language. Even his Moriquendi, dark elves, have origins in Norse mythology. So while it's a great story, the most British thing about it is the Hobbits and Wizards which are based on rural British communities and druids respectively, and druids were eventually intertwined with the myth of Merlin which grew much bigger than just the King Arthur story. So it's not like they had no stories of their own, King Arthur predates Lord of the Rings by nearly a thousand years and contains several mythological creatures. Sure, even back then it was mixed with Norse mythology since Vikings had a big influence there back then and had many colonies there, but it's still very much English. As for the druids, not a great deal is known about them since they transmitted their teaching orally so almost everything about them is from second hand sources like Romans. But they did have their whole own mythology, Epona for example is a Celtic Goddess. And Druids where basically the priest, as well as the law makers, executioners, teachers, healers, and the overall highest authority in Celtic traditions. Tolkiens wizards are very much based on them, especially the aesthetic of robes, long beards, and staffs.

The last time Ubisoft stock was this low was Feb 2014. That's a decade of lost value. Factor in inflation, its much, much worse. Once AC Shadows fails, they won't be able to raise the capital to make another serious game.

To be honest: This exactly shows why most gamers are dumb and this whole drama has no foundation. You guys are just mad to be mad triggered by clickbait content creators like bots. There are so many different historical figures that have been portrait in media in different ways. Some examples? You guys are so dumb in your argumentation that it hurts just to be part of the Anti-DEI movement. Assasins Creed was never a historical accurate media or proclaimed to be authentic. Everything beyond that has nothing to do with actual wokeness. The original term is more than 90 years old and related to black discrimination and inclusion. Even a Tomb Raider would be woke in gamers perspective nowadays (e.g. strong female protagonist). Weird, Weird.
Also all those characters are completely fictional, kind of odd Yasuke gets to be the first to break that pattern.
Because when it comes to Asian men, their diversity initiatives apparently don’t matter anymore.
It made sense of the timeline since at that time, the Portuguese and the Spanish practically infested the region and the Portuguese Empire DID have a good relationship with Japan at the time (Japan had this weird relationship with a lot of western colonizer, like, bro the fck you doing with the Portuguese and, later on, only opening yourself to the Dutch for trade? And let's not forget German and Italy later on cough!). He might be African by blood but he might as well had been brought to P.E as sl4ve? No one knows. P.E did rule the indian oceans and 'The Indies' around this time, he might have been bought from Africa or his parents bought from Africa to work in those colonies. If any, there should be a Spanish guitar accompanying him, that would be closer than hip-hop lmao.
AAA studios will do anything but take accountability for their inability to produce good games

Again, the issues is that they tried pushing Yasuke as a Samurai not as an alternative history thing but as a samurai in the real world
Ubisoft is fucked and rightly so, because let's remember DEI is not why a game fails but it's the first sign of a failed game
@@elduro1205 Every other AC main character was from the region the game played in. But now that the game is set in Japan the main character is black, seems pretty racist to me.

Ubisoft's like/dislike ratio is even worse, in reality because they botted a lot of those likes.
Not really, because any bot votes wouldn't show up in the third party "restore youtube dislike" database. The real ratio would be more in favor of Ubisoft in that case.
@@torrasque0151 lol so let me guess, you're insinuating that the dislikes are botted and nobody really dislikes the game, it's all just a conspiracy. Oh and apparently youtube dislike has its own personal database somehow.
@@Khalirei All I can say is . Dislike counts have been hidden by youtube for years, and the only way to see an approximation is through the "restore youtube dislike" chrome extension.
Sneak King was comically novel, but if you had to pick only one to add to your library, most people would probably pick the seventh "Final" Fantasy.
basically DEI isn't diversity, it's a poorly made facsimile in its image.
You cannot FORCE diversity. It only counts when it happens organically. Forced diversity is what we are railing against.
Hell, all the way since the first metroid game, Samus has been a female. Granted you only found this out by beating the game. And I think had to do something to unlock it.
they make the "game" just diversity and forget to include the actual game part
@@thetiredbiker3652 How would you define forced diversity? What makes it forced?
90% of games based on real historical time periods wouldn't have black people at all, and that ratio gets even worse if you're talking about time periods before around 1,600.
And then, since the vast majority of the fantasy genre is based around European or Asian history, they wouldn't 'organically' have black people either.
How would you deal with the fact that only having 'organic' diversity would result in no black people being in any setting outside of the modern day, or sci fi?

Tolkien started the Lord of the Rings concept as a self-driven want for the English and British peoples to have their own mythology stories again and as a bed time story for his children. It was meant to be a direct criticism of Great Britain's past as the colonial ploy of mainland Europe. In a world where everyone was complaining about Great Britain spreading western values across the world, he released Lord of the Rings as a subtle reminder that the historical natives of the island were repeatedly conquered and controlled by European powers.
And it was a more serious take on the setting he created in The Hobbit, which was a story he wrote for his kids.

Ubisoft should be happy going bankrupt as we are happy not owning their garbage.
Good.
Now it’s up to strike and steal the IP Licenses from Ubisoft so they’ll no longer make games anymore.
Do they seriously not realize that gamers are their LIFE BLOOD?!
I was just confused because for some random reason they decided to use a historical figure as the MC, which has never happened and then claimed that they did the same thing with every other assassins creed which is blatantly untrue. They literally disrespected a country whose whole culture is based on respect by cut and pasting a story that’s been done tons of times in different mediums rather than something original.
Oh, I can make up anything without evidence? What's to stop people from making up a story about Yasuke joining a circus and becoming a clown? There is no evidence to say he wasn't.
In Three Body Problem there is actually a pretty big story line revolving around the anti-science part of early socialism. But to be fair, there are plenty of people on both sides denying science and facts in favor of personal opinion so I don't think it's uniquely socialist, but it probably gets more dangerous when combined with the group think of socialism.
To be honest: This exactly shows why most gamers are dumb and this whole drama has no foundation. You guys are just mad to be mad triggered by clickbait content creators like bots. There are so many different historical figures that have been portrait in media in different ways. Some examples? Jean D'Arc, Robin Hood, Marco Polo, Julius Caesar etc. Do you actually think that every media is accurate? Do you actually think that Julius Caesar fought against Asterix and Obelix? You guys are so dumb in your argumentation that it hurts just to be part of the Anti-DEI movement. Assasins Creed was never a historical accurate media or proclaimed to be authentic. Same like a lot of other media. A good example is "Ragnar Lodbrok" from "Vikings". While it is based on a potential real person science is still not sure if this person ever existed. Imagine he would have been black and all of this would be an issue for guys like you.
Show some respect. Ubisoft is trying their best, and they are actually surprisingly good at it.
Their any% bankruptcy speedrun is on another level, and should not be diminished
It is our "fault." We chose to not play/buy/support it. But Ubisoft has forgotten the customer is always right.
Too bad they chose their customers poorly
@@emdo.unlimited555 They chose the non-existent modern gamers.
Anyone else just tired of waiting for this company to shut down already ? It could happen any day now they gotta speed things up man come on.
They are way too big to die quickly-
I've been waiting since the 1990s for EA to die. It hasn't yet, it simply figured out how best to let shit blow over before it tries again, these other companies triple, quadruple and quintuple down on it, then wonder why they are failing.
@@darkmantlestudios I'm all for pulling the rug.

Why they attacking their own costumers?
It's like suicide!!
In alternative timeline, KCD and KCD 2 have black character as main character
It's called Star Wars Outlaw because its low quality is a crime.
What is specifically bad about it? I legitimately didn't see any gameplay of it. Did you play it?
@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged It's so poorly programmed, it's hilarious. Also you can just run to the goal in most stealth missions.
Isn't it absolutely fascinating how western creators of ALL types of media in recent years behave absolutely exactly the same, as if they are same people? it's like they have same program, same software in their tiny digital brains...
Hmmm. I wonder what group owns most of these media companies?
Almost all of them are owned by six companies or Media Groups

Imagine you go to another Grocery Store and your old one blames you for the losses.
Whatever they say, day of truth will come inevitably when sales start.
I love how they call it "woke" when it’s just, you know, including people who exist in real life
@@JustinkFleming756 really? You believe that African-Americans existed “in real life” in Feudal Japan?
That is a vibrant and creative fantasy world you inhabit, my friend.
Black samurais didn't exist in real life.... it's woke because they're ignoring history, to fit their race baiting agenda.
Black samurais didn't exist in real life. Changing history to fit an agenda is why it's woke.
Sorry, but your comment makes no sense. What exactly is your definition of "wokeness"? "Being woke" actually only means "including all people" (dispite race/skin color/sexuality/gender) - so including people who exist in real life. Nothing more, nothing less. Everything beyond that has nothing to do with actual wokeness. The original term is more than 90 years old and related to black discrimination and inclusion. Gamers, content creators and media call every shit woke nowadays without having any idea what the term actually means. Even a Tomb Raider would be woke in gamers perspective nowadays (e.g. strong female protagonist). Don't get me wrong: I'm absolutely against that agressive DEI movements currently, but I do not think that the agrassive anti-DEI movement is any better with seeing DEI issues in everything or take it as a reason (e.g. Concord did not mainly fail because it had ugly characters; while Deadlock is successfull with ugly characters; typical cherrypicking). All this artificial drama shit coming from the U.S. is more than annoying. Can't wait for WW III so there is another topic going on.
Damn, bots are coming strong
Can't spell Ubisoft without "soft" ...
Ouch.
So Fromsoft is soft, are they? XD
@@Leavinsies Yeah they are. If they had balls they would've made a controller that drains my blood everytime I died.

In fact yes, they can.
The pride these people have for their sins and failings is infecting the gaming industry like a cancer.

this is where phrase "the customer is always right" is applied.
it doesnt mean that the market can do whatever they want like karens
it means you create your product based on what the costumer needs
So many companies forgot about it.
Their job is to make products we want.
Not doing politic message or fighting for equality and stuff.
especially when you use the full version "The customer is always right in matters of taste"
@@bobbobber4810 mainstream, yes.
Niche, nope.
Bentley and Rolls-Royce are two exemples.
Their cars are very niche, they barely sell 50 units a month, you can put options to make it unique and different from the few others that are sold.
BMW, Mercedes and Audi cannot do that as even their flagship ( A8, Series 7/i7, S class ) are not on par with a Bentley Flying Spur hybrid or a Rolls-Royce Phantom, they are the mainstream side of the Luxury sedan market, you will see a BMW series 7 more often than a Bentley Flying Spur hybrid or a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
The most racist part is that they ignored the real single black samurai who sadly passed away around 30 years ago (we even got photos of him) who was given the samurai title after a life of training and working making high quality katanas and helping a lot of people during bad times
