Rocking P Ranch Horses

Horses have been a staple of the Rocking P Ranch ever since Rod McLeay began raising Clydesdale and Clyde-Thoroughbred cross horses in the early 20th century. They supplied cavalry and artillery mounts during WWI and the actual horsepower to 'fuel' Alberta's early agricultural development. Now the Blades' family raise top Quarterhorses that work well either on the ranch or in the rodeo arena, sometimes both. The raising and training of these horses falls to the competent hands of Blake, Monica and Stran Schlosser with ready assistance from the rest of the Blades' family. We see the results of their training displayed in the corrals as the entire family, friends and neighbors heel, brand and process calves during a late May branding bee.

Great video and equally great still photos. I’ve always wanted to visit Alberta, see the Oilers play in Edmonton (Let’s go Oilers!) see the Calgary Stampede, get to know some ranchers there, and maybe see some Bighorn sheep. Thank you for sharing. Well done! 🍻
