Bit of info that gives a bit more context to the story. There was originally gonna be a final chapter and it’s still in the game in a decently playable state, but it got cut near the end of development, either for time or because it was too dark. Originally the kiss doesn’t fix it and hakim tells them there’s one final test before they can see the letter. He then puts them into a machine that cuts them up and sews them together with a heart pillow into some Frankenstein abomination. The players then had to control one character together while trying to save Rose as their house is set on fire and overtaken by shadow demons. The mainly focused on the basement and both player had mouse cursor-like lights they could use to interact with things. After saving rose by using old photos of the family together as a defense they get brought back to the therapy room and given the letter. They read it and find out it wasn’t actually a cure and freak out on hakim. This is where he reveals he’s not actually a real therapist and he just guessed the answer would be on the note because they thought it would be. He was bullshitting everything the whole time. They attack him and throw him off the platform to his death before sitting down to accept their fate. They talk and realize how terrible they’ve been to Rose. This realization about how they’ve been treating Rose and how even if they get a divorce they still need to be there for her is what actually ends up breaking the spell.
The writing in It Takes Two reminds me of that Star Trek episode where the writers wanted to explore a kid's grief about the death of his parents, but Roddenberry said kids don't feel grief in the future, so it was an episode about nothing instead. It's like, "how do we make a story about making a kid happy about their parents getting divorced?" and the answer is, "why keep the script trying to answer that question, when you can secretly burn and replace it with one less bizarre?" So much effort was spent on the gameplay, and they go with "let's get couples to make a kid cry so her parents can get divorced?" Like, THIS is the writing you go with for couples? Really? REALLY???
okay but that burn at the end is sick Mr and Ms Tetramorre are a great duo, especially thematically appropriate for a two-player game. Wonderful video as always!
Great video! I'd been wanting to play this game for a while, so you releasing this was a good motivator. I just finished a playthrough with my sister and really enjoyed the game, but I agree it lost creative momentum in the garden and music areas. I think it's really cool that you're comfortable sharing your faith in a video, and I thought that the insight that you two had on how the game falls short in showing how to fix a broken relationship was great and super pertinent to the material. Loved the bloopers lol. Little mechanics had me rolling. Love your videos, I'll be waiting for the next one.
I look forward to seeing you guys play Split fiction when it releases, subbed, loved your take on this game, for me it was a 10/10 experience, heck of a lot of fun. 🙂
i feel like, when the May only platforming happens, its like,,,, the devs knew the gamers' female partners would be playing her, so they put those in to give her some training with platforming lmao

Maybe I'm missing some context, I'm just working from what's in the video, but on the topic of passion it seems the problem is more that they weren't supportive of each other's passions, at least when it comes to Cody's. It's not about having a passion, it's about your partner recognizing and supporting it. Kinda like your wife is doing right here :) Btw, she did great and has a really soothing voice. I actually had similar thoughts. To me, it seemed less about the passion itself than their reaction to it. Cody’s problem wasn’t that May wouldn’t supportive, it’s that he blames her lack of support for why he doesn’t engage with it, before needing to accept that it’s not her fault. For May, Cody does support her passion, but she’s too much of a perfectionist to engage with it, and learns that not everything NEEDS to be perfect, which I imagine would extend to how she views their marriage.
And now I too want a co-op stealth game. The closest I can think of is like payday which ain't it chief. Great video, it felt a bit more "fun" than the others which fits the game love it
My parents built their marriage on a foundation of faith and always took their commitment seriously. They were together from the time they were 18 until my dad died a few years ago at the age of 69. God bless you both, and keep your eyes on that omniscient will that binds you to one another.

Binged your whole Kingdom Hearts retrospective but I'll be honest, the knowledge that you're a Christian helped seal the deal. Love your videos even aside from that (and I had a couple of story issues with this game in particular) but it's fun enough with a friend or especially companion

As much as I am happy to hear night in the woods music, I couldnt avoid the question: wouldnt it be better to use music from it takes two? Not only it would give a (potentially) better idea of what the game is, but I can easily imagine someone watching the video getting the idea that music in the video is from it takes two

If you want to hold a bigger audience I would recommend not putting in religious topics. First time through I lost tue streetfighter sequence because I didnt realize I was still flying the plane.
