For the majority of his career, Cheung and his brother played for the Sing Tao team. Whenever Sing Tao played South China, he always received lots of boos from South China supporters because they desperately wanted Cheung to play badly and lose his influence in the match so that South China would stand a better chance of having the upper hand. Interestingly, Cheung would receive rounds and rounds of applauds from everyone (whether Sing Tao fans or not) in the stand whenever he represented Hong Kong to play against visiting teams from overseas as everyone wanted to see Cheung perform well against foreign players and to shine for Hong Kong soccer. One moment still afresh in my memory of Cheung was when I was serving as one of the ball-boys during a final match between Sing Tao and the Police played at the HK Football Stadium. Cheung scored with a shot that calculatingly and fiercely flew into the right top corner with a shot from 25 metres that came off his right foot. The shot was taken superbly as his whole shot motion could hardly be detected. Reporters described that the goal was deftly scored by Cheung's 'shadowless foot'. The goalkeeper was totally blindsighted, too slow to spot the ball flying in and too late to save the attack. Sing Tao won the trophy. I am now 69 and living outside of HK but can still remember that golden goal scored by Cheung. He was truly an outstanding soccer player.

年代唔同，好難話姚卓然，何祥友，張子岱，胡國雄，邊個係香港最佳球員，等於馬勒當拿同而家美斯!各在不同年代，我未睇過姚卓然踢波，開始睇波时最出名張氏兄弟同大頭仔呀，仇志强，同埋星島條防線，何容興，霍栢寕，謝國強同區永雄佢哋。
