Great video! I'm of European descent, with some other stuff thrown in the mix, and definitely classify as Caucasian, but I know I'm far from the color white. So I went to a paint store and held paintchips up to my arm to get a better grasp on my skin tone. It turns out I'm not white at all, but "Nutmeg Spice". I wonder if I can put that on my Driver's License.😊
I am dying laughing. My youngest is 37 and I can still remember hating chutes and ladders. That and Candy Land. One good thing about them growing up. The board games get way more fun.
Thank you Margot ❤ We raised 6… Sometimes I feel a little selfish for spending so much time with my paints now the children are grown. But I remind myself that I earned my free time now… 😂❤ Time with children goes by quickly. If I missed a day of floor cleaning I just told myself that there isn’t much difference between one days worth of dust and two days worth. And time spent now teaching them to help is recouped later when they can help without you… paying it forward… ☺️💝
I'm doing a 30 Faces/30 Days challenge at the moment, so this is so well timed!! Th Margot! (I used to hide in the loo on occasions when my kids were young and I needed a moment - of course, they could open the door!)
Margot, you are a fantastic teacher!! I just love watching your videos! Thank you so much for this one specifically on skin tones…I really needed it!! 😀👍💜
Oh gosh I remember those kind of days. You’re doing fabulous with them 😘. As for mixing skin tones & colors, 🤯OMG… yes! I would have never thought of red & green making such a watered down light neutral skin tone. 😳 You make this look so easy & simple. And here I have been using Daniel Smith’s Buff Titanium as my base then adding yellows, reds, & blues depending on the tone of the color I needed. I love 💕 your simple way of doing this & I am really going to have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing this humorous, informational video on a challenging subject. I really appreciate it! Enjoy your time with your your wonderful family. It goes by quickly! Have a fantastic weekend Margot!🥰🌷💖
Thank you, thank you! I am one of those who likes "recipes" and the idea of a base really helps me. I would like to know what green you used please. I love your videos and you are a great teacher. I am sure the creation of videos (and editing) is exhausting and time-consuming, but I so appreciate it. I look forward to more!
The way you do skin seems pretty easy to remember for me. Thank you 😊 I was so happy to see a video from you! I know your busy being mom and I don't blame you because they grow up so fast. Lololol 😉. JK FLORIDA USA 🇺🇸.
I love your method Margot! Thank you for breaking it down in a way that can be used time and again. Enjoy your beautiful family, even though the mundane outweighs the ‘special’ times it will all come back to you as treasured memories one day. (Well, maybe not the loads and loads of laundry! 😉🤣)
I’ve used red and green for skin tones, but never added the yellow or blue for undertones! This was so helpful 🩷 gonna try it to level up my skin tones!
Cute, and also interesting and useful as always! Thanks -- yours is the first vid I've seen that includes such a broad range of skin tones (even though they all should!). Awesome!
I'm so glad you said that! It's a giant pet peeve of mine when people teach skin tones and just mix a peach color 🤣 Thank you for watching (and commenting!)
Thank you for another wonderful video, Margot. Easy-to-follow recipes for mixing skin tones. Great advice to avoid granulating colours on the most part, too. Hopefully, your mini-me's allow you a little bit more self-care R&R. I would never in a million years have guessed you had dry skin - you always look so elegant and radiant . xx 💜💙
I love your tutorials, especially on flowers, but I don’t think you have painted flowers lately. I went through all 10 tutorials and will do them again unless you paint something new. Your technical/artistic content is fantastic but I miss seeing you paint. Hope it’s not too much to ask for another tutorial. You are a really good teacher.
Margot, thank you! I cannot express how much sense your approach makes and it absolutely simplifies it. I truly appreciate this video. And, hang in there. Parenting is as difficult as it is rewarding. Breathe and try to laugh your way through those difficult moments. 😊
1. The moment you started mixing I instinctively went "Oh no, is the baby still stranded in the chair??" Haha the power of storytelling. 2. Mom bun and yet perfect red lipstick and cat eye. 🙌🙌🙌 3. What an incredible entertainer and teacher you are. Can't wait to binge your videos.
Hi Margot! Fabulous video! I love your personality and the humor you put into your videos! Please share what color red you used in your base. Thank you!
Flesh tones have always been a mystery to me....thanks for revealing your tried and true formula's! You saved me months of agonizing...and free's me up for more laundry...
Hello Margot,as a professional dancer and a beginner artist I just enjoy your videos, just because you are painting dancers! And your content is very creative and simply interesting to watch! Thank you for your work, and it’s also exited how you manage your work and family.Maybe you will do a video about this and about you tube creation
Again, it's a great video. Your videos are so helpful and informative. Thank you. Hopefully, your day gets better, and you don't need to spend so much time in your closet.😂😂😂😂 ❤ from Australia
Ok Margot! I may have to stop watching your videos - Lol - first I spent over $200 on Rosemary & Co brushes and now over $300! Girl, you are quite the saleslady!
Great video, I didn’t know this. About the Foreo (sounds like a cookie😉) I’m not sure. Might be just another aparatus in mijn closet to collect nothing else but dust🤷♀️. Interesting to see it though.
Very informative, this makes so much more sense!! Thank you for sharing! I remember those days, having 3 within 4 1/2 years, it was a whirlwind of busy-ness!
I have so many questions about how you handle motherhood and artistry. I have three kids, 5/3/2 years old. They want to “help” or paint too, which is great and I want to encourage them, but it’s just chaos. I can’t get anything done except feeling frustrated. Mostly my art supplies stay tucked away trying to keep them safe and obviously that means they mostly stay unused. Help!
Merci Margot. I feel so much less intimidated by doing portrait. I finally understood how to mix skin tones! Super contente ! Maintenant, faut essayer 😟
Dear Margot I must say that your videos have become increasingly fun to watch, and so professional as to feel like entertainment! Have you ever taken acting classes?? -you obviously have some skills in that area. And you always have topics with information to learn in each video even for those of us who have experience and schooling. Thank you for providing us with these mini courses and bits of golden information. Thank you SARA
Great video on mixing skin tones. I remember playing the mind numbing Kootie Ants 🐜 game with my nephews for which there was zero strategy to the game.😵💫That you are cranking out such great videos and get Any art work done at home is truly admirable!
This was an awesome way to get some great skin tones, thank you! And I feel ya on the tired, I live with my nieces and watch them and this week I have been quite sick, but they still want to play. There is no rest for the kids lol. They will want to play unless they are literally falling over. So I can empathize! You're a trooper Margot!
I just found you and I can tell I’m going to binge all your videos! I’m an artist and a mom of two, a 2 yr old and the other is 3 months. I miss painting so much but sometimes I barely have time to shower! Awesome video!
@@Pointebrush final question, I would really appreciate your opinion on what Daniel Smith blue you would recommend using?? Btw I love your channel and we all appreciate your advice.
@@exnaborrascalvo6315 In the video, Margot mentioned Phthalo Blue. DS has both Phthalo Blue (red shade) and Phthalo Blue (green shade). My guess is that you could use either but in your base, reduce the red if using Phthalo Blue (red shade) and reduce the green if using Phthalo Blue (green shade). You probably don't have to reduce by much, but a quick experiment or two will guide you.
Thank you so much for simplifying this for us! It's a very daunting project to begin painting humans! Off to watch the other video on this. P.S. Your skin is fabulous! ❤
I feel your pain. I raised two girls under 3 years of age on my own in a very small house with nowhere to hide! Laundry always seemed to hide until night time so I could tackle it then!
For all my artist friends asking for the specific brands and colors of watercolors used, I linked it all in the description :)
P.S. Hang in there - some day you will look back and realize your kids grew up quickly.

Brilliantly simple! Thank you! Completely logical and so much easier than how I’ve done it before. No more big puddles of weird colored paint…😂
Margot, you are a fantastic teacher!! I just love watching your videos! Thank you so much for this one specifically on skin tones…I really needed it!! 😀👍💜
I didn't even think to use green for mixing skintones, that's so cool!!
And makes so much sense!
Base Skin Tone: Red & Green; but green is made by combining blue and yellow.
Warmer Skin Tones: add more yellow.
Cooler Skin Tones: add more blue.
Thank you!
Such a brilliant video, I loved it ☺☺
