A great lesson as usual. I learn a lot just noodling around with any of these patterns once they get comfortable. One of the first things i did early in my youtube jazz education was learn the common rootless voicings. So instinctively i see the C6 chord as a IV chord, or F in the key of C. That’s because the rootless F chord is an A minor or C6 chord. Are there pros or cons of having that perspective when studying this, or does it not matter? One difficulty I’ve had not finding a simpler course like this early on is that my learning has been more all over the place, slowly gelling together. Definitely good to have a teacher.

Hi Rick, So glad you’re still enjoying the lessons and thanks so much for your kind comments, I think that whether you’re playing chords in root position or rootless Voicings what’s really important is smooth voice leading, so if a note is in 2 successive chords keep it in the same voice, otherwise move to the nearest note in the next chord. Hope that helps😃🎶
