Very childhood, a local laundromat of mine has two of these. I also recall there was an auto center I went to that had one as well. I'd love to be able to own one of these someday.
Major childhood for me too; these are everywhere in Hong Kong (labeled SMC, with beehive canopies), and are still sold. My high school was filled with these
A Hotel called the “Chelsea” Had 4 Newer HB Industrials but when I revisited the hotel in 2023 they replaced 3 of them with Emerson Heat Fans and this year they Again replaced them with DC Canarm CP48, I’m gonna miss them they were Childhood
They also still sell a similar, light-adaptable model in Puerto Rico (so technically the US), but not the Mainland US, from my knowledge. Aside from still being everywhere here in HK Definitely much better performers than people give them credit for
SMC are still selling ceiling fans here in Hong Kong but their scale had gone down drastically. They got a product line of around 20 types of fans, but only make half of them I guess. The others are rebranded stuff so they really are a husk of themselves. Generally the ceiling fan market here has shifted to importing stuff from mainland China cause those are dirt cheap (talking about less than 100 USD). While SMC sell their mediocre fans at prices upwards of 150 USD , which is not worth the price at all.
@@ceilingfan66 At least some of the Classic Series’ are powerful. I stood under an HCM52VB that did ~200 RPM and performed like a decent Hunter from my memory. Their industrials are about 500 HKD and IMO much better than some of the cheap skinny-bladed industrials I see in other places You’re right about the new overpriced DC ones. Maybe unless you count the warranty/customer service

Neat fan, one a haven't seen in person ever before. Also, a random question, but what kind of camera do you use?
Nikon D600 dSLR, typically with a Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 Ai-S lens.
