I walked into my local GC and there on the wall is a new SG Custom that 6 months ago was $5,999 reduced to $3,499! $2500 off! Needless to say it’s home with me now!😂

I also purchased a 1952 Les Paul for around $200. But, .... it was in the early 1970's, it was poorly refinished, carved out for humbuckers, and it was just an old guitar. Once I realized it was a 1952, I had it expertly refinished in a sunburst, refretted, and installed a stopbar tailpiece. Recently I installed Throback pickups to complete the restoration.
I dig that 58, but for 75 grand I’d rather have a sports car lol.

The 62 SG probably was left in a hot car and the hide glue loosened up at the neck heel
Same thing happened to a former bandmate of mine in St. Louis back in the 90s. SGs have that reputation.

The Les Paul is what I love the most, but I've never been able to accept the looks of a three pickup.

That looks like an early 70s reissue. Call George Gruhn in Nashville and let him look at it. Trog is no vintage expert.
I love the True Vintage Guitar channel...he gets some really great guitars with stories along with them. Bonamassa always says he is buying the backstory more than the guitar.

With 3PU Customs, is it more common for the middle pickup screw-poles to be nearer the neck (as I thought) or the bridge … ?
Coming from Gibson, I mean … Anything goes in the real world, for various reasons, I take it: eg, og Gibson zebras mostly seemed to have the screw-poles in the black bobbin and orientated on the ‘outsides’ of the cavities (ie with the creme of each on the ‘inside’, thus as near to each other as possible). Seymour Duncan zebras & reverse zebras have the poles on the opposite colored bobbins from the og Gibson arrangement (maybe just to confuse everybody … but I would guess, more likely to reduce the chances of Gibson suing them, especially when they first started producing them … ?! 🤷🏻♂️).
Trogly, not sure if you’ve already talked about this, but an episode on pickup (humbucker) orientations etc would be interesting, I think … 🤔 🤷🏻♂️
Regardless, I still prefer my Gibson SG over my PRS SE's - PRS SE's are fab but they just lack the mojo of the Gibson and that is priceless :D

Were there only ever Block Vibrolas, Maestro Vibrolas, Sideways Vibrolas and Bigsby Vibrolas that were put on SGs (and just Bigsbys on Les Pauls?! - aside from Les’ own custom vibrola job on nis personal ‘52 … ?) .. 🤔
There's a '1952 Les Paul Gold Top' at Arbutus Music in BC Canada for $31k(CAD), and it has a Standard headstock and weird heel. Seems like replaced neck to me.
$200 50's Les Paul wouldn't seem that unrealistic at all in a certain scenario (when the owner is clueless).
When Bonamassa bought his "Trash Bag 58' Flying V" the owner lady didn't know what it was and was apparently ready to sell it for couple hundred bucks (she ended up getting $150k or something like that).

I have questions about the Gibson 150, are they new? I see them for 1300… fully hollow, no f holes…
I once bought a 50's Les Paul Jr. at a flea market in the mid 80's for $3.00. Yes, that's "three" dollars and that's what the seller had on the price sticker. Beat up pretty good and had a crack in the headstock but after the easy repair it was an amazing guitar.

I scored an original 1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb for $200 so the deals are out there.
They are GUITARS, not furniture, not art, the magic is how they sound. I can’t believe these ridiculous prices and all these guitars that might be the best players are in a case.
Yes… You could just as well say all stamps should be used for postage. Collecting stuff as a thing. And I do think that you’re right. The general sentiment from players is that these are instruments that should be played and enjoyed and make beautiful music for other people to enjoy. The thing is, there’s so many guitars out there that having a few of them be collectibles perfectly fine.

I had exactly the same thoughts on the 52 LP. No doubts on its authenticity, but think the reddit post was to create some buzz and hopefully lead to a bidding war when he puts it up for sale in the near future.

I see both arguments. I really put the blame on the seller for not doing the research before offering the item for sale. Nobody forced them to do that.

At the end of the day, we all have the same information available in the palm of our hands. If I know and you don't, it isn't my fault. Always be the smartest guy in the room. My local paw shop guy is cool and cuts me deals on stuff that needs work. He sees a broken string or a bad setup as a reason to just get what he can and move on. He makes a little. Most times I triple my money from cleaning a guitar up and making it playable. He's glad to be rid of it and is happy to have made a profit. I give him asking price and flip it. Sure it's not 200$ for a 35000$+ flip but if it was, they had the same info available as I do. I tell him all the time he could double his money if he just did a 20 minute set up and some new strings. He doesn't have time for it. Well, I do. I'm not screwing someone over this day in age if they get what they ask. Doesn't matter to me if they didn't want more. The sellers remorse comes from lack of investigation. It's not because I beat em down on price.

As wood ages/drys out it stabilizes considerably. An old maple neck will be much stiffer than a new one. (Unless they roast it, since that process makes it like an old neck, but with a tan. 😂)
