Wow! Talaga! I can't believe Tia Carerre is in this movie! Most people younger than 30 years of age might not remember her but she played the character of Cassandra in "Wayne's World" the movie, it's nice to see her still acting and still doing well. Fun fact, my friend and client said she saw Jo Koy's interview for this movie and it was finally made from the help of Steven Spielberg who is a big Jo Koy fan and also Jo Koy was a big fan of Tia Carrere and Lou Diamond Phillips who are also Filipino by the way. Can't wait to watch this movie that finally will be representing the Filipino Culture! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

@@orihime15 I was just responding to the original commenter's amusement to the Manny Pacqiuao joke on this movie. I had to be clear because even though that was just part of a skit in the movie, those who might not know (especially foreigners), might mistaken us from being too obsessed with Manny that we even make it to the point that we even know every single detail (including Manny's birthdate) and make it a part of our daily lives. Obviously, it isn't the case. I'm cool with other sterotypical jokes about Filipinos, but not this one, because it is very unlikely.

It's great that Jo Koy is putting on for his people and is having break through success. I have seen him live twice and he is brilliant in person, off the top and in the moment. He even clowned me and my table, and me in particular for wearing my Spurs jersey. Lol he acted like it was a onesie, but then I popped it out to show how loose it was with a furrowed brow and wtf is talking about face, and turned around to the delight of the crowd. It's the banter, the improvisation, they playfulness in his teasing, his smoothness, the ability to freestyle jokes, the intelligence and awareness of the audience and being present in the moment that really makes him a Supreme comedian.
I think his comedy suffers in this type of format, but he is still Jo Koy and even his slight pauses and facial expressions are funny.
And really I am glad that Filipinos are getting more shine.. but I'm not sure about this movie. It's funny and relatable but it still makes us into a cliche. I want to like it right, because it should be good for the culture, but some of the interactions were borderline cringe. Like why can't we just be good singers, why do always have to be good bad singers that karaoke. (I used to have a magic sing mic so don't get me wrong lol... I'd always take it when I went out, because you never know... you might end up at a house with 6 girls and need to find a way to spend time, while your buddies who weren't doing jack, are otw asap because you felt giddy and called them because it would have been wrong not to share your good fortune.)
When I was a younger, after hanging out at a party someone asked me what my nationality was. I told them I was Filipino, and they were like ahhh I never met one, but whenever someone talked about them, they always had that one cool Filipino friend, now they understand what they were talking about. I don't even remember anything I did in particular to garner that reaction, but I was abashed and felt humbled. It's stayed with me too, to realize that I don't just represent myself, but I affect how the world views us too.
That's the movie I want to see. I want the world to know, to realize, Filipinos... for all our hidden qualities, the wit, our depth, our humbleness, our sorrow, our strength, the passion, our unconditional love for our kids.
I want my spirit to cheer and be proud for being who we are naturally.

Fil-Ams know him as a popular boxer. Filipinos too... but then he became our senator and recently run for president (and lost). He's still widely popular and he is known as a philanthropist. Typical videoke (karaoke) playlist here in family gatherings includes My Way by Frank Sinatra for the titos, Top of the World by the Carpenters and Dancing Queen by Abba for the titas, and for younger generations: Narda by Kamikaze, Ang Huling El Bimbo by Eraserheads, Torete by Moonstar88, and Stupid Love by Salbakuta. 😂
