Half-moons greening Mauritania

  • In Mauritania, communities work hand in hand to make their land fertile again. A traditional technique called "half-moons" is used to reduce water runoff and trap the scarce rain inside the half-moons, thereby increasing water infiltration and improving food and fodder production.

Planting trees all over can help create a good area for agriculture... The trees will help keep the temperature pleasant for livestock also.

Traditional farming communities in Korea developed a system called JADAM, which has been proven to be used to make the land more alive. Namely maximizing the use of plants that have certain ingredients that are adapted to local conditions, livestock manure, mineral salt water, and other materials that are easily available nearby, then connected and integrated with the food chain system between plants, animals and humans, including the use of microorganisms. .
I have started applying it to several areas of land that have been damaged, because the humus has been lost due to mining activities on the island of Kalimantan, Indonesia, where the condition of the soil is very similar to the condition of dry desert soil and is almost rocky.
This effort is showing very good results and if this is tried to be applied on the African continent and other desert lands, it seems that it will slowly improve naturally and bring benefits that move very quickly.
Greetings from me in Indonesia and it would be very good if the JADAM system which was pioneered by agricultural experts in Korea is implemented.
Please see this method which has been widely broadcast on many TH-cam channels, as a reference.
Good luck and greetings to a healthy and green earth.

They need to reduce tillage and instead incorporate covercrops and graze as a village, not as individual households, to improve the surrounding vegetation. Regenerative practices begin with reducing tillage, and include water structures when necessary.

    • @marlan5470
      @marlan5470 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Except that tillage has to be done prescriptively. Meaning, the soil is so compacted that they have to mechanically move that soil and incorporate some fertilizer. Whether that is natural compost or not, it depends on availability and the particular situation. Till, incorporate manure/compost, and follow the regenerative principles.

Has there been tracking of depth of aquifer as measured at wells, before and after projects? I guess my question is whether the retained water affects soil moisture below depth of crop roots. Presumably it would take at least several years to see a noticeable difference, if at all. Does someone take up the task of measuring precipitation on a systematic basis?

Here are some of the keystone animal species that contribute to the health of the Sahel region:
Addax: The Addax is a critically endangered antelope species known for its distinctive spiraled horns.
Dama Gazelle: One of the largest gazelle species, recognized for its elongated and slender horns.
Sahel Gazelle: Another important gazelle species in the region.
West African Lion: Majestic and resilient, the lion plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.
African Elephant: Despite the challenges, elephants inhabit the Sahel and contribute to its biodiversity.
Secretary Bird: This unique bird species also plays a role in the ecosystem.
These animals have adapted to the Sahel’s harsh conditions, and protecting their habitats is essential for their survival. Addressing threats such as habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict is crucial to maintaining a healthy Sahel ecosystem 1. 🦁🌿🌍
